Great location. Warm staff.

I stayed over the holidays and the staff could not be more accomodating. Check in was very efficient and they offered my room early a my flight came in mid morning. I knew in advance that there were no washcloths nor alarm clock. So I brought my own. There is a tv alarm that's very dependable. The wall has a built in converter - I could plug in my US curling iron and digital camera charger easily. Water pressure was amazing in the shower. Doesn't have a convenience store for snacks or toiletries. Hotel is a bit off the path. But everything I needed was within a short walk. Bed was very comfy; small but adequate fitness room; breakfast not included- that would have been nice. Had blowdryer and iron in room; coffee was instant but tea was amazing! Close to everything! I would stay with this brand again without hesitation.

Time-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Hop-on-Hop-off buses pick up just near the hotel. I recommend it to get your bearings. Aircoach for 8 euros picks up and drops off less than a block from the hotel. Irish countryside tours (Cliffs of Moher) could be picked up at tourist info center close by. Was disapponted that the Book of Kells was closed for 10 days over the holidays.

Good Hotel; good value

Location was very good - easy walking distance to Trinity, Grafton Street. We also walked to other attractions - Guiness, St. Patrick's although that might be too much distance for some. Hotel was clean, quiet. Only drawback - needing to pay for internet access.

Great trip to Dublin

We were situated less than a block away from St Stephens Green which is the best manicured urban oasis I've ever seen. Everything within the city centre area was within easy walking distance. The only surprise to me was that breakfast in the morning wasn't included in the room fee, but I understand now that that's typical for European travel? I'd stay there again if/when I return to Dublin.

vey pleasant stay

The Hotel have spacious rooms and friendly staff. The Breakfast was good. I didn't quite understand that one doesn't get breakfast included on the departure day as in most other hotels the arrival day is counted as an overnight without breakfast and the last day (check-out)is included. We had to buy our breakfast and that should be told to the guest beforehand. Otherwise, we were pleased with the Hotel and its location which is very center.

Excellent room, service and price

We could not have asked for a better hotel room or location than O'Callaghan, Davenport. The location, right on Merrion Square, is a perfect location for Dublin - you're just blocks away from the Hop On/Hop Off bus that takes one all over Dublin. This bus takes you to the Heuston train station that gets you all over the rest of Ireland. You're also one block away from picking up any city bus. You can also walk to Grafton street and the restaurant/bars in the Temple Bar area. The hotel was excellent. Our large room had plentiful shelf and drawer space and they had a wonderful selection of breakfast teas and coffees in the room. The room was totally cleaned every day, top to bottom, and the updated, air-conditioned, hotel would rival any newer hotel but O'Callaghan has an 'old world' charm that a newer hotel cannot match. The staff was willing to help in any way necessary. We believe we found the perfect hotel in which to spend our week vacationing in Dublin.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

The Hop On/Hop Off bus is the perfect way to view the main attractions in Dublin. It's a two day pass and you'll need two days to see everything. While in Dublin, don't bother with the wax museum -- it's over-priced and the only attraction that wasn't worth the time or euros.

O'Callaghan Davenport

Did lots of sightseeing around Dublin and other locations in Ireland. A few things missing that would suggest the hotel consider: I inquired to obtain a washcloth for my room. The staff at the hotel informed me that they do not have washcloths available, but did mention that most of their guests from the U.S. ask for the same thing. If the request is repeated and repeated, but goes unanswered, is the hotel management listening to their customers. I stay in a lot of Hilton properties and my experience has been that even if they cannot accommodate the request, they certainly would have provided a better customer service response or made an attempt to satisfy versus a yeah, we get that all the time reply. A clock in the room and pen and paper would have been items of convenience. Not sure if the front desk staff were doubling as concierge staff and was not clear if there even was a concierge. Did not have bell service either. Having traveled to Europe previously, I was pleasantly surprised that the room size was larger than I would expect. The bedding and pillows were very comfortable. One thing that was highly convenient was that the electrical outlets accomodated US appliances. However, there was no outlet in the bathroom for a hairdryer. I debated whether to bring my hairdryer and was glad that I did, because the one in the room was some odd wall mount that looked like it was from the 1970s. I did not attempt to even figure it out. One thing that might be suggested to the staff to mention to guests before they head up to their room for the first time is that guests need to place their key card into a wall slot in order to activate the lights. The choices here say yes or no if you would recommend. I cannot say that I would entirely not recommend, but with advisory as to what to expect. For someone who was basically out of their room for the majority of the time, it was ok. Be prepared for a hefty daily internet access fee of 12 euros per day.

Entertainment tip: Short walk from hotel

The hotel is located close enough for one to walk to Trinity College, Stephens Green. There are also several attractions within one block of the hotel such as national history museum. Taxis are always available outside the hotel. The Dublin Sightseeing city hop on, hop off bus stop is also just a few steps from the hotel.

Good location and friendly staff

The hotel was a great location - a two minute walk from the airport shuttle bus and sighseeing tour bus stops and a 10-15 minute walk to Grafton Street and Trinity College. The room was clean and had American-style plugs. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and went out of their way to help with flight info after it snowed not to mention navigating the austerity protests on O'Connell Street.

Great location and very comfortable

Two of my daughters and I were in Dublin on vacation and we wanted a hotel location that would allow us to walk everywhere we wanted to go. This hotel was in a nice neighborhood half a block from a beautiful park. We walked everywhere, including to Christ Church Cathedral, Guinness, Jameson, the old jail, Trinity College, and St. Michan's. The jail was a bit far, so if you're not a real walker you might need a bus. We were also close to the shopping on Grafton St and the Temple Bar area. We walked at night and felt perfectly safe because there were always plenty of people on the streets. The hotel room was very large by European standards and had a great bathroom. Since there were three of us, we had a queen and a twin bed and there was still room for a small sitting area. It was well worth the price we paid. They charge for internet in the room, but there's a hotel computer in the lobby that you can use for free.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

We weren't too lucky with food in Dublin. Hotel staff recommended Foley's pub but we did not enjoy that at all. Try the Old Storehouse in the Temple Bar area. [...], the host, is fantastic and the food was delicious for simple pub fare. If you take a day trip to Howth, Abbey Tavern was very cozy and had good food.
