Great location if you can find it...

The Temple Gate Hotel is hidden in behind the central main street in Ennis. You have to walk through a small cozy alley way to reach the main steet, but by car it is rather difficult to reach. Rooms are very americanized, clean and comfotable. Lobby and public areas have a much more traditional Irish feel. TV had about eight working channels. The room did not have a mini bar, but the shower was great!

Not the most valued guests at Temple Gate

We chose to stay 2 nights in Ennis for traditional Irish music, specifically the Fleadh Nua festival. Enjoyed the city and what music we heard, but our stay at Temple Gate was not the highlight. We felt the hotel aimed for a pretentious feel, but although the location, decor and amenities are nice, they aren't that of a 4-star hotel. The location, although not super easy to drive to, is very convenient, right near the center of Ennis and next to shopping, dining and the Glor concert hall. Our main complaint was the unfriendliness of the staff from the time we checked in. Our room was on the first floor directly across from housekeeping (which naturally led to a bit of early morning noise); the only other guests we saw in this section also seemed to be American tourists, so apparently these are the assigned quarters for such. Our ground-floor window faced onto the parking lot and was left open one day by housekeeping to freshen up the room. When I asked for a map of the town, the desk clerk reluctantly gave me one, saying there should be one in the room already (there wasn't). The best part of the stay was the superb breakfast included, although it wasn't made too clear that more than just the basic Irish breakfast was without extra charge. Several cooked meats and eggs, fruits, juices and pastries were offered by unsmiling but dutiful servers, and the dining room was nice, if a bit formal. We were leaving with a full stomach and deciding the hotel wasn't too bad after all when I found my rental car locked behind the gate of the hotel parking lot, where it was correctly parked. To preserve parking for guests, the hotel periodically closes the gates (so the sign said). This was mid-morning and there were plenty of parking spaces all around. My daughter went in and politely asked someone to unlock it so we could get to the airport, and about 5 minutes later an employee sauntered out with keys and let us get on our way.

Old world charm but disappointing!

  • ebookers Hotel Inspector
  • 12 Dec 2010
There is an Old World Charm about the Woodstock Golf & Spa Hotel Ennis, but during my visit it was very quiet. My room wasn't ready on time (surprised given the lack of guests)? and I had to wait in the bar while it was being prepared which was fine; bar lady was friendly and chatty. The room was bigger than expected with a view of the golf course, the bathroom was a good size and the water pressure was fantastic! but the cleanliness of my room was not to standard and the restaurant was empty in the evening thus the lack of atmosphere and buzz around the place... My evening meal was fine, but the breakfast the next morning was not the best and the service was disappointing..(grumpy and rude waiter)! My next door neighbours were very noisy and I had to call reception in the middle of the night to sort them out..... The leisure centre was the best part and I did enjoy a couple of hours relaxing in this area of the hotel.... I wanted to have a spa treatment, but it was closed on this occasion? Think the hotel could use a facelift (particularly inside) perhaps replace the carpets, the cleaning staff and the attitude of some kitchen staff! It was good value for what I paid, but I'd rather pay a little more and get exactly the service and pampering I really deserve!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Woodstock. Room was spacious and ovelooked the golf course. Staff was professional and friendly. One drawback is the location unless you have a car.

We were dissapointed with this

We were dissapointed with this hotel. The location and food was good but the room was very dissapointing and in need of a revamp. There was a wedding on the first day we were there which is fine but there was no where for hotel guests to relax away from the noise of the wedding. While there is a small louge area marked as residents only this was not adhered to either on the saturday or the sunday. The noise on the saturday night meant that we got very little sleep. the noise was more from heavy closing doors which could surely be given soft closing pads to lower the constant noise levels.

Description
Ideal as a base for touring the west of Ireland or as a stopping point between Limerick and Galway. The staff at the hotel are extremely welcoming. The hotel is also useful for Shannon airport. (10.08rt) The exterior of the hotel is traditionally designed, although a modern structure. There is ample parking. This hotel is situated in the beautiful old market town of Ennis, on the main road from Limerick to Galway. Ennis is full of craft shops and antiquities dealers and the hotel is ideally placed for a stroll around the bustling and friendly town.

Located in Ennis, Co Clare. Great Location. Found the Staff to be very nice. We Never used the pool, although it did look nice. It did seem to be the heart of Entertainment for all the locals. On the Bad side; they had several Dancing events going on and it made it very hard for us to find a parking space.

Much better than the reviews on trip adviser implied. No problems, good sized room, friendly staff, good location. Clean freaks would have noticed a couple of drips on the bin and behind the taps and a bit of paint on the radiator pipes needed redoing - but it was fine it did not bother us. It was really good value for money, we had a really good stay and used the pool every day. The cafe was nice and cheap, the bar was expensive but bar food was ok if a limited menu
