One Night

There's a parking garage for your car but you have to remember to get a voucher from the front desk so that you don't have to pay for parking. Room was fine, comfortable although we had to make sure our curtain was completely closed as there was a spotlight shining into our room! Staff were fine but not overly friendly. When I asked about the Blarney Woolen Mills outlet near Bunratty Castle the lady told me there was no store there. I was surprised as I had been there before. I looked it up on the internet and it is STILL there but by that time it was too late to go there and we were getting an early flight the next day. Wish they had known more of the area attractions! We ate in the bar area and the food was fine. The waiter was nice but had to ask him a couple of times each time we wanted something! Liked that it was on the road to the airport. There is shopping nearby but not really touristy. View from our room was not much, especially with the spotlight shining on us!

Great location!

I read the reviews about this hotel before booking and each one said it was in a good location. They were right! We only needed a cab to and from the airport. We could see and walk to all the points of interest from our room, Saint Mary's Cathedral, King John's Castle, and Hunt's Museum. A bridge across Shannon River to the center of town was only a few steps away. There was a grocery store, shopping and many pubs close by too. We had trouble with our TV and safe, but each problem was fixed within 10 minutes.

Highly recommended

We spent six nights and were impressed with The services and the hotel staff. Excellent restaurant - make sure to have a fixed menu dinner, a great value and delicious food! We loved the view of the river and the castle from our window. Highly recommended - an excellent deal. We did not use it but had an impressive health club with indoor swimming pool and sauna. Free wireless was a nice add on! Very conveniently located, close to all main attractions.

Limerick

Nice hotel. Overall, the room was neat and comfy. I never found the gym, though I'm sure it was there. You pay to park underground, but the place gets super full weekend nights. The only real complaint I have was on my last night (flight leaving early) there was banging on the ceiling. It went on forever, finally I called down to ask what was going on and when it would stop, as it was past 10 pm). I was told "I'm sorry, they are replacing the carpet around ...something....They should be done in about 1 1/2 hours. I'm really sorry". This was seriously loud and I had one of the worst nights sleep in a long time. I complained and would have at least appreciated someone letting me know what was happening or a note under my door, or anything ....rude. I'd still recommend them, as I'm sure this isn't routine.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Hit up the Quay about 2-3 blocks away for some snacks, fruit, wine, etc for your room. The prices were great, quality of fruit was awesome. It rained a lot and that stuff was a life saver when I couldn't go anywhere (not a lot close by) and didn't want anything from the hotel restaurant (saves breakfast too). Also- bring a portable alarm clock!

The Strand is a good hotel while in Limerick on a business trip

The hotel is in a good location, right across the Shannon River from lots of shops and restaurants. There are also lots of places to walk and it feels very safe even if you are alone at night. There is a parking structure adjoining the hotel so if it is raining you can get to your car without getting wet. Parking is at a premium here so that was a big plus, parking was 5 Euro per day. The front desk staff is ok, not overly helpful but OK. The maintenance staff was extremely helpful! Myself and my co-workers all had the same problem with our rooms being very dim. The light bulbs are just not bright enough. Also, they do not have air conditioning when it is not summer and it was very hot in our room. Maintenance was not able to turn on the AC but they did turn off the heat and gave me a fan and, with the window opened it was comfortable. Maintenance also changed out all fo the light bulbs for me with brighter bulbs. I think the staff person’s name was Eric, he was GREAT!!! The resturant is good and the bar is also good. Breakfast is a very nice buffet with lots of choices. They do have room service with a couple items even available 24hours a day. The bathroom is very roomy and had ample counter space and good towels. The only bad thing was the very limited choices of television programming. No sports channels (we went down to the bar for some matches/games).

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

The French Table is not far from the Strand and we highly recommend it. It is near the Clarion hotel and is about a 15 minute walk or short taxi ride away. They have great food and drink and excelant customer service. We loved this place! Also the Cornstore is a very good (and lively) place for a group dinner, it is about the same distance away from the Strand. Great food and drink and great staff. The Cornstore is on Thomas street

Castle Hotel Dublin - I expected more

The staff is very friendly and helpful with giving directions and with making your stay as pleasant as possible. The resturant is really good on Friday and Saturday nights because they have live music and it is really great. The dinners were very good and we would recommend the resturant for dinner. The breakfast is very disorganizeed, there is not enough dining space for the number of guests and the buffet is a joke. They will bring you a full irish but they need more staff to handle the size and number of guests. We would not recommend the breakfast at all. The hotel front desk sells tickets for some of the things you might want to do at a good price and that is a plus. The room is OK, we were in a twin room, nothing special but it was fine. The bathroom is very small with the tinest shower I have ever seen. There is no counter space at all so toiletries that would not fit on the sink went on the window ledge. The hotel is old and you can hear every sound from all the rooms around you and the hall outside your door. We could hear everything from the rooms around us including sneezing and snoring! The windows are also single pane glass so even if you have your window closed you will hear every sound from outside.too. We were not on the street side, we faced an alley full of garbage and people were walking throuth and yelling during the night. It is not right next to anything but it is close to the hop on hop off bus stop, within 15min of Temble bar area and not too far from the bus to the airport if you don't have too many bags. The area does not feel safe if you are alone. There is a bank with an ATM about one block away. As others have commented, the configuration of the hotel is very strange and there are fire doors every so many feet, you can take the lift to your floor but you will still have to deal with lots of stairs and narrow halls depending on where your room is located. Difficult to get our bags to the room with these obstacles. Also, there is no vending in the hotel if you need something like a soda or bottel of water you will need to go to a store that is a couple blocks away. It was an inexpensive hotel but should have cost much less in my opinion. I would not stay here again.
