Good but expensive

  • Sazar
  • 20 May 2012
Very good location close to the metro and aldo walking distance to some nice attractions. The hop on hop off buses stop 2 minutes from the hotel. There is also a spa where you can use the sauna and turkish pool for free, but it needs some maintanance. The hotel was very pricey and it didn't even include breakfast, it was another 25€ extra per person. They charged 10 euro for room service just for one coffee, which made the coffee cost 16 euro, which we thought was rediculous! As most hotels room service is free.

Excelent location, unfriendly staff

  • Diego A
  • 25 Apr 2012
The hotel is very modern and not for everyone. When I arrived the front desk personnel was very friendly and they gave me an excellent room with a terrace. The view was fantastic, so as the comfort of the hotel. However, the day I left the staff was not helpful at all and they were even quite rude. I would strongly recommend the directors to review the personnel staff. Despite that, I would recommend this hotel.

Description
Set on one of the most well-known streets in the world, the Ambasciatori Palace Hotel is an elegant choice for those wishing to truly experience La Dolce Vita in Rome. This charming hotel is set on Via Veneto, the street which inspired Fellini's classic movie, Roman Holiday. It was built in the early 20th century for international diplomats from the Embassies nearby. Between 1993 and 2001 the building went under careful renovation. The result was the enhancement of the original, antique decorations, including stuccoes, arches, capitols and columns. The bright and spacious common areas at the Ambasciatori Palace offer a sophisticated atmosphere where you can relax after a day in Rome. All of the comfortable guest rooms and suites feature luxury materials and vintage furnishings. Enjoy a drink at the lounge bar accompanied by live music in the evening, or refined Italian cuisine at La Terrazza Restaurant. Look out onto Via Veneto as you dine, in the summer the terrace is opened to enjoy the mild Roman evenings. The hotel offers free breakfast to its guest.

Description
The Gambrinus Hotel offers its guests a unique environment, outstanding for its use of fine materials and its careful attention to detail. The hall is elegant and refined: the floors are in statuary marble, and the walls are covered with wooden decorations and white lacquered wainscoting and, to illuminate the whole, there is a splendid light fitting in Murano glass. The luminous environment contrasts with the dark wood reception desk, creating an extremely pleasant effect on entering, making guests feel that they are entering a refined and comfortable environment. The other rooms are furnished with the same care, as, for example, the beautiful breakfast room, where you can still admire the original stones of the 1800s in the vaulted ceiling, and the floor in Roman travertine stone contrasts with the dark marble of the bar. In this fascinating room a plentiful and tasty buffet breakfast is served every morning, with a wide choice of fresh and wholesome products, ranging from sweet to savory foods, both hot and cold. The hotel management also offers exclusive, personalized services of high quality. The hotel also offers airport transfer, baby sitting service, concierge, currency exchange, disabled facilities, doctor on call, dry cleaning service, high speed Internet access, wireless Internet access, laundry service, lobby, lift / elevator, non-smoking rooms, restaurant, room service, safe deposit box and tour desk.

Adequate, but not 4 star

  • S
  • 28 Nov 2010
This hotel was rated as a 4 star hotel by another travel website [...] in 2005, according to the sign behind the desk. Our rooms were adequate, but nothing special, and certainly not immaculate. Staff was helpful, especially at breakfast and in figuring out transportation. Breakfast was typical for a Rome hotel - not quite the same as the picture shown on the website, but adequate. Located about a 5 minute walk from bus stops, 12 minutes from train station. This is probably a typical 3 star hotel.

Rome

  • Business Traveler on Vacation
  • 28 May 2010
We stayed at the hotel for our first trip to Rome. Not a bad location, with the Roma Pass we were able to take the bus from out front or the Metro (a few blocks away) to all of the historical sites. It is a nicely remodeled older hotel with small quaint rooms, staff is friendly and breakfast was always very good. Windows kept out most all the noise (inner city location) but the A/C was hard pressed to keep up, even on cooler days. Rooms were clean and nicely kept. It is far enough from the historical sites to have nice restaurants and shopping close by and close enough that you can see everything with a short ride on the Metro or bus.

It's got everything!

  • Kathy
  • 16 Oct 2010
Perfect location, exceptional staff, very comfortable, spacious and well-soundproofed room and bath, the Hotel Majestic was a wonderful place to start and end each day. Thanks to a complete breakfast buffet in a beautiful dining room, we walked out each morning well-fortified for miles of sightseeing. Our concierges gave us good suggestions for restaurants, train/plane connections, and whatever else we needed. This hotel is full of personality and history, and yet still has a modern outlook. The dedicated staff reflects that. We loved this place.

The Marcella staff is welcoming and helpful, particularly [...] at the front desk/concierge station. The rooms are beautiful and a solid value for expensive Rome. The best part of the hotel is the rooftop garden--beautiful flowers, great, friendly service ([...]) and wonderful food and drinks. I heartily recommend the Marcella to travelers looking for a first class, refined but relaxed hotel experience without the outrageous expense of the more well-known Roma hotels.

Hotel Turner is located in the centre of Rome, at Porta Pia, a site of particular importance in Italy's history. Located 900 meters from Stazione Termini and from the airport shuttle Terminal, the hotel is near the most beautiful urban park in Rome, Villa Borghese, which is a 10-minute walking distance. A 15-minute walk is what it takes to get to Teatro della Dolce Vita on Via Veneto, which dates from the '60s and is still one of the more elegant and exclusive ones. Hotel Turner is housed in a building dating back to the late 19th century which has been carefully restored, and features classic-style, tastefully decorated rooms that recreate the elegant and sophisticated atmosphere of historic Roman houses. The property has just opened its new cocktail bar, operating from 6;00pm to 00;00. In summer the indoor cocktail bar will be operating in 6th floor terrace with the same operating times. Antiques, marbles, stuccos and Damask fabrics are enhanced by the most modern comforts, making Hotel Turner one of the best hotels in Rome.

This hotel is located on a quiet street within walking distance of many of Rome's best attractions. The room was large and beautifully furnished in a modern style. The front desk personnel spoke English well and were extremely helpful. We highly recommend this hotel.

Romantic Trip With Husband

The hotel was perfectly located in a quiet area but within comfortable walking distance of The Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain. Staff were very helpful and even arranged transport back to the airport for us. Room was spacious, comfortable and very clean. We had breakfast in bed on our last morning and it was very good. My only complaint would be the pillows as I couldn't get the right combination for a comfortable sleep. Mind you I am rather picky when it comes to pillows and we didn't mention it at the hotel though I'm sure they would have been only too happy to help. Overall I would recommend this hotel to couples looking for somewhere a wee bit special but still offering good value for money.

Overpaid for the stay

The original hotel we booked and paid for had an issue with plumbing so they booked us into a different hotel that was MUCH cheaper and in a terrible location by the rail terminal. We paid over $200 in advance for one night and when I asked the front desk how much the room would normally cost, he said $120......[...]

Truth, from a knowledgable traveler

  • Jac
  • 18 Feb 2010
The hotel was completely acceptable, and my entire family liked it. But, don't expect it to be an "American" hotel. Rooms are on the small side with average furnishings. The hotel shares a building with some other apartments, hence, the second floor entry after a flight or two of stairs. We didn't expect that, though it was not a big deal. (There is a 2 person elevator if you need it). Expect to be held pretty close to the published check-in time with maybe a slight chance of getting in early. Time to walk to places like Piazza de Spagna (Spanish Steps) depending on your pace is 15-20 minutes, not 5. The closest metro station(local subway)is a 15 min walk, unless of course you want to power-walk a bit! If you're going to do Rome on foot, as many people do, you're in a very good locale. But if you need one, busses are a block or two away. "Beds" are okay; meaning average comfort. Don't expect thick, plush mattresses. There were some minor communication hurdles, but nothing that couldn't be worked out. Desk, cleaning and kitchen personnel were fine. The "breakfast" consisted of cereal, one type of bread, croissants (very good), some jellies, and one type of wrapped cheese; and drinks. Organized tour information was not as available as I had hoped, but directions were happily offered. Also, you had internet access for a reasonable fee.

Via Veneto is the most famous street in modern Rome, with its coffee shops, luxury shops and its shining windows. Walking down the street, you will get an idea of the capital artistic wealth: from one side, Porta Pinciana, with its Aurelian's Wall, from the 3rd century with their expansion of nineteen kilometers are the most ample Capitoline monument. From the other side, Piazza Barberini, with its Tritone's Fountain, designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini.

Belles vacances!

The hotel was superbly located 2 stops on the metro from the terminal station and easy to find. The hotel was in easy walking distance of many attractions. I would recommend you do not eat in the restaurants near to the hotel as they had hidden charges for service charges and cover charges for the table. The staff were very helpful and the rooms good for the budget price we paid. Breakfast was dissapointing however.

OK Overall

  • Average Customer
  • 3 Sep 2011
The location of the Aldrovandi is great if you want to get away from the noise and crowdedness of inner Rome. However, unless you plan to eat at the hotel every night, there's really no restaurants within walking distance, so plan to take a cab for evening meals. The front desk can get you a cab in less than 5 minutes. The pool area is very nice and quiet and the pool bar staff is great. Meals poolside were also very good. "The Grill" indoors is closed without notice sometimes, however, eating in the bar room is just as fine. You are lucky if Lorenzo is working--I've never had better cocktails or service. Maid service is more than adequate. We stayed in a Deluxe room with an amazing bathroom, decent room space and a walk in closet. The bed in our room and I assume all rooms was EXTREMELY firm (way too firm for me and I even prefer a firm mattress) and the linens were scratchy and stiff. TV in the room is VERY limited (only one English channel) unless you want to watch CNN all day. Minibar prices were astronomical, even by minibar standards. The breakfast buffet was included in our room price and very nice, but serves the exact same thing every day. Unless you want to pay an extra 40Euro a day, get a deluxe room with the buffet included. (Avoid room service--it's very slow and will likely arrive cold.) Staff is very attentive and goes out of their way to assure you are comfortable. This is a "higher end" hotel than we usually stay at and was fun one time, but the linens, beds and ammenities are just as good if not better at other hotels for 1/2 the price.

Elegance and Professional Staff

When we arrived, the staff at the reception decided to upgrade our reservation to a perfect and comfortable Junior Suite. Service cleanliness, courtesy and helpfulness were impeccable. Away from the crowded city centre of Rome, we could reach Piazza del Popolo through the Villa Borghese gardens and a free shuttle operates from the hotel to the Spanish steps and vice versa. I have suggested this hotel to some friends who were very happy with this choice too.

Spring in Rome

  • expat from US
  • 6 Apr 2012
The bed was comfortable. We located extra pillows in the dresser drawer. The maids came every day and kept the room very clean. The location is perfect! = close to metro / buses / restaurants etc. The room contained original marble and wood. The hotel has 2 elevators but the oldest one is most reliable . A huge negative is the noise level. If you go there during the fall or spring months, the weather is perfect for open windows but once the windows are open, the noise is awful! With the windows closed, the noise is less but the room becomes stuffy because the AC is turned off. Also, the internet charges are steep and for use in the lobby.

If you have ever been to Rome before you know the city is walkable from almost everywhere. The free breakfast everyday is awesome. I can't wait to get back for just that. The rooms were clean and updated. The staff were fine. The local restaurants are great. Looking to back this year.

  • 3 Mar 2011
I had one day to cover on my own. This hotel was $80 versus $500 for the company sponsored hotel. As others have said it is not exceptional roomy but my room was nice and clean. It had free Wi-Fi, something my $500 hotel did not. The breakfast was good and the staff helpful. My chief complaint was a hot room that couldn't be cooled with my in room controls. It was winter and that had the heat on. Would have been nice to have it a little cooler. The location is NOT near a Metro station so you must take a taxi or learn the confusing bus schedule to get there. The neighborhood was otherwise nice.
