The Madison Hotel is set in a 19th century palace a few minute walk from the Termini Railway Station, in a very strategic position both for those who wish to spend a few days in Rome and for one-night stays. This elegant and comfortable hotel in Rome offers its guests 130 rooms including single, double, triple room and family, all tastefully furnished and fitted with modern and comfortable facilities. Common areas are spacious and cosy, furnished by using precious materials like marble and warm cherry or walnut wood. On the hotel's first floor there is a big relaxation room which overlooks the Termini railway station and is very quiet due to soundproof windows. This room is furnished with English-style walnut wood furniture with travertine floor, exposed beams and walls painted with Venetian stuccowork. The hall is next to an intimate and peaceful small room where guests can watch TV.

Convenient Yet Affordable

Chose this hotel for easy access to train station/metro. Average for a 3-star hotel. Nothing spectacular but nothing to complain about either. Allowed us to store luggage before check-in time so we could do some sight-seeing the morning we arrived.

Very short walk to the train station which is the main hub for the majority of the city buses as well.

Very expensive for a "closet"

The location was excellent, across street from railway station. I'm glad we were only there for one nite, as the "double room" consisted of a super single bed. The room was so small we had to climb over luggage to reach the bed. Hotel staff was very helpful in helping us to have electricity in our room. Breakers had been shut off.

average for location: the hotel

average for location: the hotel is very close to termini station in Rome which is very convenient if you need to use the train or the metro. this is a downtown hotel so another positive for the location (do not confuse this for being the best location in town. it is just ok). bad for price, service and facilities ok. when it comes to price this place although fully booked all the time i was there I struggled to understand the link between the price and the service (& the room). I have been in Italy many times before and i do understand that the hotels are expensive but this place was charging double what it really should be at compared to other places. i have learned that if i am stuck for a room in Rome it would be better to go to another city than to settle and pay high rates for little service in return!

Room was okay but outside of room was dingy. Over priced. Hotel Diana was vastly superior and cost less a couple of weeks ago.

Excellent!

This was our first trip to Rome. I originally picked Madison Hotel because it seemed to be centrally located to all the major attractions...I didn't know just how centrally. The hotel is literally across the street from Termini Station, one of the main train stations in all of Rome. This is also the hub of just about every bus route. It's a 10 minute ride to every major attraction. If you are flying into Fiumicino Airport, a.k.a Leonardo Da Vinci, take the Leonardo Express directly to Termini Station. About a 30 minute ride and then a 10-15 minute walk through the station to the hotel.

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

Termini offers all kinds of shopping, so take advantage. Don't drink the water bottles provided by the hotel, they charge about $3 per 16 oz bottle. There are several restaurants and stores on the same street or inside Termini station where you can buy 4 or 5 large bottles of water for the same amount. There is also a small grocery store on the lower level where they sell fresh fruit, snacks, ready to eat food and all manner of drinks. Also be aware that drinks are never really cold and they serve nothing with ice unless you ask for it. Be prepared to drink only "cool" drinks...even soda.

good location and breakfast / no minibar

the weather was not really hot so the lack of air conditioning was not really an issue. However if you go there in the middle of the summer (July-August) the hot weather could be an issue. The location is excellent and the rooms nice and clean. We bought wine to put in the minibar but it didn´t work.

Sightseeing tip: Not Applicable

Buy tickets for the sistine chapel in advance. The line at the vatican would take at least a couple of hours waiting. We went in early June and I beleive it is not that bad in the winter (Jan-Feb). Also there are supermarkets in the train stationand we coudl even fing a memory card for our camera in a small gift shop in the terminal. Also, the hotel has power outlets in the bathroom that fit with the american standard plugs.
