Good access to public transportation
Yes, the hotel is conveniently located close to the main Termini Station in Rome. It is walking distance (5) minutes walk from the major train station. Access to buses and trams is easy. Rooms are small. Breakfast buffet is pretty good, cereal, fruits, bread, yogurt (for vegetarians) along with ham, sausage etc. Fresh coffee is good. Staff is friendly. They address the problems quickly, like my room was too hot, so someone came up right away to fix it. I will recommend it to all.

Their chef for dinner is an outstanding one. Made excellent Roman Artichoke and also his grilled vegetables were to die for.

certainly NOT a palace!
Dated, rusty and poorly air conditioned building - no hot water in the rooms for 2 of my 3 night stay - aparantly there was a fault - poor response from staff - extremely noisy and bbedrooms far too hot.

Great hotel - great location!
My daughter and I travelled to Rome and stayed at the Mecenate Palace Hotel for five days. I highly recommend this hotel. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The location was excellent -- right across the street from Santa Maria Maggiore, a few blocks from Termini Station, and easily accessible by foot, metro, or bus (including the hop on-hop off sightseeing buses) to all the key sites. The room was clean, safe, and actually pretty spacious. And, the breakfast buffet included in our hotel stay was a perfect way to start each day.

If you go to Rome at Christmastime, there are lots of things to do that are especially good with children. There's a city ice skating rink at the Castel Sant'Angelo. There's a display of 100 creches from around the world at the Piazza del Popolo. And, on New Year's Day, there are street performers at the Piazza del Popolo as well. We saw mimes and musicians. I heard there were acrobats, too. There's also a great Christmas market at the Piazza Navona, with carnival games, foods, toys and Christmas trinkets for sale, and a merry-go-round. There are fireworks over the Colisseum, but they will seem very limited if you are comparing them to American Fourth of July fireworks. But, people set off their own all over the place! We went to the Spanish Steps to see the fireworks and the people-watching was phenomenal! The Colisseum turns into a nightclub -- so great place to go; but not necessarily if you're with young kids.

Excellent location, very comfortable!
We stayed here for a week between Christmas and New Year's Day and were very pleased. The hotel is close to a taxi stand, the train station and many good restaurants. Our room was clean and large enough for us. The front desk staff was EXTREMELY helpful--going above and beyond to help us find our way around the public transportation system. Breakfast was delish, too--meats, cheeses, cereal, yogurt, fruit, etc. My only suggestion would be--if you are anything less than physically fit, make sure to get a room that gives you access to an elevator. We stayed in the "annex" which was lovely, but required two flights of stairs and three sets of keys to get from the street to our room.

Very Nice Hotel
Our six-night stay at the Mecenate Palace Hotel was very pleasant. Clean, comfortable, and elegant. It is conveniently located just a few minutes walk from Termini train and Metro station. The staff was friendly and helpful. Wi-Fi was available and reliable, unlike some other hotels we experienced during our trip to Italy. Mecenate's breakfasts were typical European and excellent. We would definitely consider staying at this hotel again and recommending it to others.

The Metro system entrance is just down the street, use it, buy the day pass for 6 euro, good for 24 hours.

Convenient location
Mecenate Palace is by no means a palace, but it is still a very nice European hotel. The rooms are small, but very comfortable and clean. The location is very close to the termini, which made travel very easy. Many popular sites are within walking distance but with the metro so close we rode that quite often. The breakfast buffet included pastries, cheese and meat platters, a variety of cereals, hard boiled eggs and either bacon or hot dogs. The staff were all very friendly and very helpful. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would return.

If you plan to go to the Colosseum or the Roman Forum I would recommend the 3 day Roma Pass. Your first two sites are free entry and then many other sites are available at a discounted rate. During the 3 day period you can also ride the metro and public buses at no charge.

Ace Place
the Mecenate Palace is split into three parts. There is the main part which is the actual Mecenate Palace Hotel. Then there is the secend bit down the street that I stayed in. Then there is a second bit of the part that I stayed in. I have no idea what the quality of the whole accomodation of the hotel is but my room was top stuff. what I can tell you is the breakfast is great. Also the beer in the hotel is expensive. Go to the underground supermarket across the road for all your beer and wine.
