Exceptional staff!

What sets the Rex hotel apart from many others is the personable staff. Every single staff member we encountered at the Rex made us feel at home and comfortable. After the 2nd day it no longer felt like a hotel stay, given the Rex's cozy feel and friendly staff. Highly recommended!

Total Rome experience

This hotel is a basic accommodation for sleep during your trip in Rome. The location is great. The Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Spanish steps, 2 major shopping streets, the zoo, and the Pantheon can be reached by walking 20-25 minutes. If you are able to walk, you can bypass trains and taxis for most of your trip. You are 5 minutes from the termini which is really convenient. The basic room is like a bedroom in a city apartment. The "double" bed is a glorified full size bed so it can be tight for 2 adults. Don't expect to want to stay and relax in this room. The breakfast was relatively good with a variety of a more European cuisine. The staff was great and the room was clean albeit in need of some updating. It is perfect for a first trip to Rome since you will be more concerned with what's outside than inside.

Hotel Rex Rome

Whilst the location is great and the staff allover were always very helpful , pleasant and smiling the stay was not pleasant at all . The air condition did not work and could not be fixed , ( July in Rome .....!!! ) The rooms and public areas are extremely dirty and not well maintained . The breakfast service and food disgusting. We stayed from July 30.2014 till August 04. We both are Hotel executives in a 5 Star Hotel , very well travelled but we do not have high expectations. We were there on leisure and therefore just came to the Hotel to sleep. The online pictures are sending the wrong message about the property.

No ice for you!

From receptionist to room cleaning everything was very good. However there's no ice machine in the hotel and I needed to ask the ice from the idle restaurant of the hotel with few tables. They claimed that their ice machine was broken in a pretty defensive mode. Even if it's true I couldn't imagine how a restaurant could be operated without ice.

Convenient hotel for Termini and Forum areas of city

Comfy room overlooking the street, which was noisy but fine through closed windows and the air con was not a disturbance. Street noise did not disturb us at night. Bathroom was a little tired and gloomy though. Excellent continental style breakfast with veg, cheeses and salad. Plenty of bread and pastries to set us up for the day. Reception staff all have very good English and were very helpful with a welcome pack, tourist info and a local restaurant guide, from which we found 'Target' - see our tip below.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Target Restaurant. Turn right out of the hotel. Cross the first junction. It's on the left hand side of the street. Good value, service and atmosphere. Slightly different range from the usual Pizzerias, with some more adventurous (and pricier) Italian style food if you wish. Good for families.

Rex hotel

This hotel is very good for its location, within walking distance of the Railway/Bus/Metro terminus (5 minutes) Staff are very friendly and helpful. However what does let the hotel down somewhat is the room we stayed in at least really does need a refurb it was tired /dark red walls dark carpets, there were no bedside lamps, Some sharp corners to the bed which when going to the bathroom in the night can be very bruising!! curtains were far too long a real trip hazard, our room was overlooked by an office block so blinds on the window are a must as you have no privacy otherwise. Bathroom needs a makeover, rusty shower cubicle tarnished taps, a phone on the wall so close to the loo that you would knock off the receiver. Continental breakfast was very poor a few rolls, an omlette like eggy whatever with bits of whatever left from last nights dinner added very disappointing, I have had many continental breakfasts over the years and this was poor. Great location friendly staff but in need of a serious makeover. Would I recommend no
