Definitely a 4 stars hotel!
Hotel does not have an elevator or a ramp in the outside, so to get to the reception you have to go down the stairs carrying your luggage. The room was too small; we barely had space to accommodate our luggage. Breakfast was great. Location in not the best, the nearest metro station is about 1 km from the hotel. I definitely would not rate this hotel as a 4 stars hotel, but overall I would stay there again, if I was by myself in the room.

When we arrived to the hotel the front desk lady was kind. Her English wasn't the strongest so when giving myself and partner directions, for the very convenient bus and metro, was hard to understand. The room is small and the shower even smaller. But we just slept there and spent the most amount of time out in the city and exploring. It'd be nice to have breakfast included in the stay but that's not how they operate and they don't make it easy for you to make local calls. Where many American hotels allow local calls to be for free, this hotel does not. So if you need to call your pre booked tour, like we needed to, be prepared to pay! The bar is lovely and although you have to pay 8 euro for breakfast its sooo good! For an "affordable hotel", its only moderately affordable when your traveling on a budget. At last, I'd stay here again. Being from NYC we enjoyed traveling on the train and bus everywhere. Cabs are pricey in Rome so make sure you have cab fare! Enjoy your stay!

Nightlife tip:
Short drive from hotel
For young Americans looking to feel at home in a bar, look no further than La Botticella (via Ter Millina, 32 Rome, Italy 00186). Its located in the too amazing for words Piazza Navona. Giovanni is the owner and although from Rome he has a HUGE love for Pittsburgh! He made myself and partner feel right at home with good beer and GREAT music.

Unbeatable for the Price!!
The room was a little small. However, not a lot of time was spent in the room so that didn't matter. The "Continental Breakfast" was amazing!! Not your regular stale bagels and box cereal, it was a full breakfast with eggs, bacon, WIDE variety of fruit, meat & cheese platters, cappuccinos...etc.. really made the size of the room trivial. The metro is about 3-4 blocks away, which was no problem. St. Pauls Basilica could be seen from the other side of the hotel and was literally a 2 minute walk to a phenomenal church!!

the dollar right now is weak to the Euro. it is about 2:1 so plan on paying a lot for the things that you buy while there.

wouldn't recommend to my family...
My husband and I stayed at Hotel St Paul for our honeymoon. Rome was amazing aside from this hotel! Before we left, we emailed the hotel for directions from FCO. They never responded, so we had to rely on shady directions from a google search. Those didn't pan out, so our only option was to ask a local that didn't speak English. The area was pretty sketchy at night. It is a 15-20 minute walk to the metro if you're going at a quick pace. It is off of line B, so you have to take the metro to Termini station to switch to the A line to get to most attractions. So basically, you leave the hotel and should plan to only come back at night to sleep. The room was tiny, yet clean. The bathroom has a 2 x 2' shower and no tub. We had a king sized rock to sleep on. There is a mini bar with ok prices. You can hear the neighboring room very well. We slept in our first morning and the maid tried to walk in without a knock. You don't have the option to put a privacy hang tag on your door. There was a small safe in the room, but we didn't use it. We had breakfast included in our room rate. There was a nice selection that would suit anyone's taste. The American bar they boast is a small counter with 3 barstools that was dead at all hours. There is a computer in the lobby with quick Internet. You should probably eat in the city center before returning for the evening because options are extremely limited. The front desk staff were friendly and spoke some English. The hotel isn't ok a city map because it's so far out. In my opinion, this is a great place to stay if you're on a tight budget and are only planning on sleeping then leaving. Also, be prepared for a long journey to all the good attractions. If you want a liesurely vacation, pick another place to stay!

Time-saving tip:
Long walk from hotel
Take the train from FCO to termini station (11 euro each- leonardo express). Buy ticket for metro. Take line B to basilica st paulo. Exit the metro at the far left side (sign says via ostiense). Stay straight on this street on the left side (the right side is lined by a stone wall). Go though 3 lights and turn left at Marconi. Take your first right. This st dead ends. Turn left. Hotel is up on left.

Very nice, modern and clean hotel,
Very nice, modern and clean hotel, but lacks charm and cosyness. The surroundings are bleak. Not the ideal hotel for a romantic week-end in Rome, but nonetheless a good buy for the money. 10 mn walk from San Paolo Station.
