Stay at the Westin

The Westin is a very nice hotel. The lobby and rooms are very clean and extravagant - very fitting for a 5-start hotel. The issues I had with the hotel were in the service. Not that the service was terrible, but that it was required for everything. We had to call down for a blow dryer for my wife. We had to call down daily for ice since there was no ice machine. I realize that Europe has a different take on ice than America, but it was annoying and often they forgot about us. We would have to call down multiple times. There was also no iron. You had to use their pressing service for 7€. Also, while they had plenty of people there to provide service, they just weren’t good at it. I had to have my bill corrected for the same error twice. The concierge desk was disappointing in their knowledge of Rome and tourist attractions. There was little support for tours and such. In the end, I don’t think this is a great hotel for tourists to go. I was beautiful and may be fine for business folks, but if for tourists, it isn’t the right hotel to cater to Americans. In addition, the location is off the beaten path for tourist attractions. We were able to walk to a number of places, but had to take a cab to the Vatican, for example. After paying hundreds of dollars a night for a hotel, I was also very disappointed that I had to pay another 15€ a day for internet access in the room – it was free in the lobby and I saw a lot of people down in the lobby checking their computers and iPads.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Stop by the roof top bar of the InterContinental hotel at the top of the Spanish Steps at sunset to see a great view of the city and the Vatican.

Short stay in Rome

We had stayed at this hotel several years ago and found it to be in similar condition. We had a better view of the street on my first visit. We love the bar and the bar service. The breakfast looked good, we only got coffee. The room seemed a bit tired and our "King bed" was comprised of 2 twin beds together. All in all a nice hotel but not really worth the money.
