Situated in the exclusive Prati district of Rome, the Cicerone Hotel is a historic hotel offering four-star accommodations in the center of the city. With a fine gourmet restaurant, cocktail bar, and a location in one of the trendiest parts of town, the Cicerone has immense travel-appeal. It's not all about modern flair however, with some of Italy's most historic sites, including Vatican City, neighborly near to the hotel.
Key facts
  • 296 rooms, including suites
  • 8 floors
  • Restaurant: Le Bouchon
  • Business center
  • Meeting rooms
  • 24-hour front desk
  • Room service
Neighborhood
The Cicerone lies on the street of the same name in the upmarket Prati area of the city, surrounded by high-end boutiques and restaurants, broad avenues, and grand Palazzi-housed government buildings of the unified Italian state. It-s an area of historic grandeur next to Vatican City, affording easy access to Castel Sant'Angelo-built in 123AD-as well as the Pantheon and Via del Corso. Visit the strange, macabre and utterly fascinating Museo delle Anime dei Defunti, a museum that purports to house the handprints and fingerprints from souls in purgatory, left on the clothing of the living.
Hints and tips
If you need to organize a business meeting, the hotel has the latest audiovisual equipment at your disposal.

Ask for a room on a higher level for a view over the city. The "attic" rooms offer some of the best views, but the elevators don't go that far up, so you'll need to navigate the stairs.

This is not a comprehensive list of fees. Any amounts listed above may not include taxes and are subject to change.

Great location

Arrived at 1pm room not ready told to come back at 3 which we did change of staff to be told room would not be ready till 6. I told them this was not good enough. After a frantic 15 mins they gave us a nice room. Problem seems to be they deal with a lot of coach parties and were all organised for them arriving throughout the day. This was our only complaint. The hotel is in a great location 15 min walk from the Vatican. It is also within walking distance of the metro & all the main attractions. While we were waiting for our room we had a nice lunch across the road from hotel Grotta Azzura. We had a nice room spotlessly clean everyday Staff helpful, continental breakfast was good. Cooked scrambled egg bacon & hotdog sausage was poor by British standard, but enough of other things to fill up for a busy day. Only found out on last day wi fi free, use hotel not Swisscom as they charge. Also thought everything was included with e bookers but had to pay a local tax 42 euro on leaving. Overall we had good stay 5 nights and would use this Hotel again. This was my first review.

Tired rooms and midnight builders

We had 3 rooms in 4 days. The rooms are tired, the ceilings are dirty and damaged, the electrics are dodgy and the lifts are scary. To top it all off the builders started at midnight using pneumatic breakers to chip at concrete balconies which are in danger of falling off. Breakfast of tinned fruit salad and nasty coffee finished us off. Just don't do it.

Great location no excuse.

Having a great location does not mean that a hotel sits back and does not update. Carpets worn out, old tube tvs, dark areas, very dull public areas and dated décor etc. Breakfast is very, very poor. Hotel appears to focus on 2 star package groups and it shows: mass production. It need not be as the staff would appear to be better than this and it does have a great location. Currently a 2 star hotel but could be 4+

Horrible, terrible and Nightmare

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and got nightmare experience about this hotel. Every single living worker there was so cranky and looked so unpleasant. They are all OLD (well, nothing wrong with being old and working) and seemed not to have energy or passion for what they are doing. They looked like a whole bunch of zombies. Especially the old men. The location is close to the Vatican City. Other than that, every else was horrible. NO free Internet and I have to pay €10/night. I was so surprise that in the middle of Europe, Internet is still charged. The bottom line is, stay away from this hotel at any costs of your life. You don't want to spend your money to get the frustration and stress. People in that hotel gave me so much stress and nightmare.

Short walk to many tour sites. The walk to the Vatican was a little longer than we thought from reading the literature, but we say lots of other historical sites along the way.

Roman Holiday

The hotel was fine. It was in a great neighborhood, close to shops, Metro, and a nice walk to the Vatican. The Metro was maybe 3-4 blocks away and two stops from the Spanish Steps. The Hotel was clean and had all the amenities one needs. I had a single room, and it had a queen sized bed and a big bathroom. Plenty of closets and a fridge/minibar. No view as I was on the inside, but I did not care as the hotel was only 7 stories tall, the norm for buildings in Rome. I would stay there again.

Good average hotel in great location

The Hotel was fairly ordinary and geared to groups but it was immaculately clean, comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful Breakfast was plentiful and there was a wide choice of food. The light switches were a bit of a mystery but generally an easy and good place to stay.

A perfect option

It's worth the price you have paid. The location is perfect if you take into account that you are in a big city and you can't be everywhere and you have to choose. The relationship between prices and services that you have to pay for a stay in Rome is more than correct, mainly if you consider that you are going to enjoy a wonderful breakfast that you should pay apart in other places. If the price fits you, don' doubt it. The only problem is that Internet is not free and the price is a little exagerated.
