How was this 3 stars?
We stayed only one night at this hotel. The only good thing was the bed was fairly comfortable. The room was tacky; things didn't work or were falling apart. The shower floods the bathroom floor, the hairdryer looked scary, there were holes in the floor, wall, ceiling. The ceiling was leaking in the hallway right outside our room.

Good location
Good Location. Walking distance to Roma Termini and everything else. Breakfast needs improvement but for the price, if you intend to visit the city and not stay in your room all day, then this hotel works for you.

Teensy Elevator
Overall we were all pleased with the hotel and our visit to Rome. The lobby and elevator were probably the smallest I have ever seen. The elevator had notices posted that no more than three people were allowed in the elevator or it would break. In our case it was me and my wheelchair only and only if the wheelchair were collapsed. The hotel personnel were very helpful.

Short walk from hotel
The hotel was a little farther away from the main train station than expected but it was not a bad walk. We were also able to walk to the majority of the hostorical sites without problem. The breakfast was decent but I would recommend going to a cafe for more variety. Public transportation in Rome is very challenging for people with mobility issues. In the subway we found only one station with any type of elevator/lift which was ridiculously slow. It was rather comical to watch the security personnel turn the people away from the side of the stairs where the lift was being operated. Additionally if you are traveling with a wheelchair take extra spacers, screws and a screw driver since cobble stone streets create a lot of vibration.

Perfect Location
This hotel is located in one of the most prime loctaions within the city. Its not as close as a couple of blocks but its still pretty close. We used the hop on hop off bus which has the two spots very close by also making our site seeing much easier. The hotel had a quaintness about it but very clean and the staff was friendly. The breakfast was very basic but helped to get the day started. Something to take note of is that the hotel closes from 2am to 5am everynight and they lock the doors. We were dead asleep by then so it did not worry us at all! I would gladly stay here again!!!

This was awful, unfriendly, the worst
provided inaccurate information, unfriendly - not willing to assist in transportation, room was hot and holes in the wall by bed and room entrance, shower is very small space of the bathroom with a shower curtain - towel can get wet. Room back of the hotel past winding hallways. Not recommended - run find another hotel.

Great Location for the price
This was the first hotel we stayed at during our 10 day trip to Italy. My boyfriend and I chose this hotel for the first few days of our trip. We chose this hotel because of the location. We thought this area was the best place to stay because it was centrally located. It was a 15 minute walk from the Spanish Steps, 30 minutes from the Colosseum (only cause we got lost), and other tourist attractions. It is also located 15 minutes from the Termini Station. We thought we were going to take the Metra everywhere, but we ended up walking instead. We even walked to Vatican City. My first impression of the hotel was that it was small and quaint. The person who checked us in was very nice and spoke pretty good English. The check in process was a breeze. Getting our luggage up to the room was the next task. The elevator was a snug fit being that we squeezed in myself, my boyfriend, and our two large pieces of luggage, but I lived and would definitely do it again instead of carrying my stuff up stairs. Our room was at the end of the hallway and down the hall from the breakfast area. The room was on the smaller side, which is quite common in Europe, but it was enough room for the two of us. We also didn't mind it because most of our time was spent exploring Rome. The room was very clean, and so was the bathroom. However, that was the only positive about the bathroom. We did have a working toilet, shower, and sink, but the thing that didn't really float my boat was that the shower floor was also the floor of the bathroom so using the bathroom after someone had showered felt quite gross to me, but like I said. The bathroom did it's job. Breakfast was nothing out of the norm ... assorted pastries, breads, and other sweet things, rolls, dry cereal, cheeses, sliced meats. They had a coffee machine which was pretty neat and tasted good enough. All in all the staff was super friendly, nice, and very helpful. Would I stay there again? Probably not ... probably because I never stay in the same place twice.

Elettra ristorante on Via Principe Amedeo 72a/74. Close to the Termini station. Best service that I had in Rome. They welcomed us with glasses of sparkling white wine. Many dishes to choose from and an English menu as well. I had the Veal Milanese and my boyfriend had the Cacio(sp) e Pepe (goat cheese and black pepper pasta). Both were delicious. Dessert was amazing too!

Bed+shower+toilet= all you need!
Breakfast included was key, mostly made up of breads, jellys, and cereals. Very yummy for a full day of traveling around Rome! Location was wonderful. Very close to Termini station and within walking distance to various other sites and shopping. If you just need a bed, shower and toilet, this is the right place. Clean, comfortable and cheap!

Small But Clean & Convenient
Rooms & The Showers are small but they are very clean and nice with tiles on the floor & wall. Location is great, abut 20 minutes bus to Vatican, and 5 minutes bus to Coliseum. Overall, very nice hotel.

Rome could do without it
I arrived at the Hotel Zara - Rome on October 7, 2010 in the late afternoon/evening, and from the very beginning it presented a challenge. I am a very budget-minded traveller, and although I had read some rather negative reviews about this hotel, I decided to try it out because of its location (a step away from Via Nazionale, and close to the Spanish Steps, and just about everything else), and also because there were some positive reviews (regarding the location). This hotel does not present well, but if you do not care about aesthetics, then this is no problem. For me, I didn't care. I began to care, when I found out that the elevator (which could hold only one person at a time and his/her suitcase) only went to the third floor, and my room happened to be on the fourth. One elevator ride, and a trip up two flights of stairs, I ended up in front of the door to my room. I opened the door, eager with anticipation to throw my exhausted self unto the bed awaiting me, only to discover that I could not see because of the darkness of the room. After locating and turning on the light, I saw my room in its full glory. It was small, but I expected that. It was narrow, I expected that too. It was truly dark, even with the light on. This I did not expect. I saw there was a standing closet, which had one of its doors missing. I saw that there was a desk with a television on top of it, but no chair. I saw that there was a window (and thanked the gods.) I saw that there was a long horizontal mirror above the desk. I walked to the window, and opened it. I was pleasantly surprised by the view of the patio and an outline of the city of Rome. I turned around to face my room, and sighed. I was in Rome. I looked to my left and saw a smaller room, which I assumed to be the bathroom. Turning on the light, I saw that it too was very small. I expected this. I saw some exposed wires where there should have been a mirror above the sink. I did not expect this. I also did not expect the loud noise that was produced when I turned on the light. I sighed again, and thought to myself, "Well, at least, I am in Rome." I decided to refreshen my make-up, but as it was getting pretty dark, I decided to find the light source by the mirror, so that I could actually see what I was doing. How foolish I was to think that there would actually be light. I went downstairs to the desk attendant to ask if I could have a lamp of some sort to provide the light needed for me to see, and was told no. I sighed again, at least I was in Rome. I decided I didn't need light for a week and would just do my best at the start of the day. The days went on like this, and only got worse. I recognized from the first night that someone else had slept in the bed, but I expected this. What I did not expect was to find the many, many hairs left behind by the person who had last occupied the bed however. I did a lot of sighing. Over the course of the week, I received fresh towels, but the room was never swept. The dust accumalating in the room was only made worse by the staff's insistence on keeping my window open, even after I closed it. Also, I found out to my dismay that I was not allowed to have male visitors as a single woman, because of some belief that I may be prostituting myself (nevermind the fact that I am gay). I was told by an attendant that this was a law in Italy. I had never heard of this before. So, my poor friend (whom I had come to visit me during my visit was told to wait outside while I came downstairs, and was not allowed to help me bring some shopping bags upstairs after I returned. This was all very disappointing, but who was I to interfere with the law of Italy. I sighed again, and decided never return to this hotel. It also did not help that I was frequently talked about by staff, who referred to me as "la negra," to other people even when I was in their presence (the thought was that I didn't understand Italian at all). So, my advice: if you happen to be...

Long walk from hotel
Villa Borghese is a short walk from the Spanish Steps, which is about a 10-minute walk from the Hotel Zara. It is beautiful and free. Nice place for a picnic, to see art, and to have a romantic stroll.
