Good value for the convenience

  • Jkim530
  • 26 Oct 2011
My husband and I were visiting Venice for only a day and we would be lugging around our suitcases, too, so the close proximity to the Santa Lucia train station worked out in our favor. We would have preferred to be more central to where the shops were, but it would have been a complete pain to drag our luggage over several mini-bridges (Venice is full of them) and those mini-bridges are all stairs. We just left our luggage at the hotel, which was literally across the canal, and we walked to the tourist sites, which took maybe 15 minutes (if you didn't get lost in all the mini alleys). The hotel was clean, definitely not new, but served it purpose. It had no elevator so you had to bring your luggage up the stairs, but not a big deal for anyone not minding the climb. Our room was huge, with three beds, and the bathroom was stocked with a ton of fresh towels. It looked out over the water with two big windows that also brought in lots of sunlight. I'd def stay here again because it was a great value for Venice, which is really expensive!

This is a quaint little hotel... once you find it! If you arrive by plane, take the bus not the vaperetto, then tale two small bridges... and wa la.. Google map it! We were lost adn wanderign for 2hrs, even the police were useless in giving directions. Internet is only avaible in the lobby. Breakfast was a buffet stil, with Americano coffee(btw McD serves americano coffee)

Location. Location.

  • Frank R
  • 21 May 2012
Two night stay pre-cruise. High cost for a quite small room was offset by a very friendly and helpful staff, scrumptious continental breakfasts, and location just steps from all modes of transportation. No need to drag luggage all over creation (just one small bridge). Possibly the world's smallest elevator made us smile. (Luggage was brought up stairs by bellman.) Access to the computer and printer in the lobby sitting area was very convenient and helpful. Don't miss the private garden for a few minutes of relaxation.

We just spend one night at this hotel and it was perfectly located close to the Cruise station, walking distance. If you are going in a cruise this is a great option, if you want to be in Venice, then it is NOT.

Description
Hotel Basilea sites in a characteristic building of the XVIIth century, in the artistic and historic heart of Venice, between narrow beautiful streets called "calli", and bell towers, in a very quiet but strategic position. The structure is, in fact, not far away from Rialto and Piazza San Marco, and it takes only a 5 minutes walk from piazzale Roma (terminal for autobuses and vaporetti - little boats used for public transport -, and big car parking place), and also from the railway station. The hotel faces on the Rio Marin, a typical Venetian channel, well-known for its serenades in gondola, and this is ideal for the person who loves and wants to live the Serenissima's magic.

Mind you, some of the rooms dont have toilets and you maybe forced to share (if you get the econmy room). fantastic location but they make the most of their location by pricing rather high. Venice is hard ot find accomodation and most of the other things are expensive too (esp travel on the water bus). this hotel only serves bread/spreads, tea, coffee and juice for breakfast so beware!

Great if don't mind a little night sweat

  • Honeymooner in Italy
  • 18 Jun 2009
It has a great central location on the Vaporetto line/Grand Canal. Quick walk from Vaporetto and in a quiet section of San Polo. Everything was pretty good to excellent except that the A/C doesn't work. It makes noise but doesn't blow air for some reason so after leaving the room all day with the A/C on we came back at night to a hotter than outside air room. We had to sweat the night away while sleeping - thank goodness the next night was a lot cooler and we kept the windows open throughout the day to air out the room. Also the bathroom for the room was exceptionally spacious given most bathrooms we had on our trip.

Comfortable, and conveniently located.

  • Olde Gnome
  • 23 Nov 2011
We have stayed at this hotel before, so we knew what we could expect. The Papadopoli hotel has very comfortable beds. The deluxe rooms were nicely furnished, and have good bathrooms. The hotel dining room serves a good breakfast (25 Euros), and the bar is a great place to relax after a big day of sightseeing. The Papadopoli is on a small canal, and is next to the Papadopoli Gardens. It is also close to Piazzale Roma where there is a taxi stand on the Papadopoli Gardens side. A regular taxi from Piazzale Roma took us across the causeway, and right to the new airport terminal entrance. The water taxi, and vaporetto docks are a long, long walk from the airport terminal. We took a water taxi to the hotel, and although it is a romantic way to reach the hotel, the regular cab from Piazzale Roma was easier on the feet.

Hotel is in great location. Quick wallk from train station. Hotel is very clean and in quiet area also close to water bus landing. Unfortunately today and yesterday the water busses were on strike so we put on many miles walking over 80% of the Island. It almost seemed like a blessing because it forced us to go out of our way and say many of the bueatiful museams and churches off he beaten path. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Only wish was that wireless was available in rooms and not mjust in the bar area. Staye here many years ago and would definately stay here again. Ciao BABY!

Must stay at this hotel!!!

  • Bob and Jane
  • 11 Nov 2011
In all our experiences in international travel, this was clearly the best of our lives. The location is perfect for a stay in Venice, a short five-minute walk from the train station (over two bridges) and right on the Grand Canal. One can see the boats going by from the breakfast room. The room given us was clearly the best in the hotel, right behind the main desk but with a privacy door to the vestibule where our room entrance was located. There was an outdoor patio, equipped with a privacy row of trees AND a wall, making it impossible for one to be disturbed or observed. The breakfast was substantial with food of great assortment and unusually high quality, even espresso coffee if requested. Of greatest importance, however, was the quality of the staff, which was absolutely superb. Every single person there, from the manager on down, made us think that we were the nicest and most important people who had ever visited. We had tears in our eyes as we said goodbye to the staff, feeling we had made acquaintances with people we will remember fondly for the rest of our lives.

The Residenza d'Epoca Ca'Favretto is a 400 yr old residence that sits directly on the Grand Canal of Venice. Breakfast was included in this stay and was quite good and catered to both American and European tastes. The rooms were comfortable and pleasantly adorned. Domina Home Ca'Zusto, rising in the heart of the city in the Santa Croce District just a short distance from Canal Grande, is a unique structure that has preserved the striking features of the ancient, noble and sophisticated Gothic Palace. The hotel furnishings are the creation of designer Gianmarco Cavagnino who has made it a place of excitement and surprises that is strongly bound to the past. It is an alternative for Venice: an exciting and unexpected house with the colours, decorations and atmosphere of the Venetian-Byzantine tradition in a domestic but international context, which recalls Venice in the 14th century. The hotel also provides free breakfast to its guests.

I'd highly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Venice. It's not in the main touristy areas which makes it nice and quiet. At the same time it is in relatively close walking distance to all the sights, and it has a museum next door which makes it easier to find (follow the signs for the museum). The hotel has that great mix of classic charm and updated amenities.

the hotel is across from the main train station, which makes it very easy as far as luggage is concerned (you can leave stuff there after you check out), especially since Venice is not fun if you have luggage to carry around. The downside for me was that the room was small and smelled a bit strange (a mixture of old building and smoke). Breakfast was just OK, not a buffet that I was expecting. The staff was very friendly and spoke good English.

This is an older hotel and for the rating it is all that you would expect. The staff is friendly and the room was clean. You get a simple breakfast included in the price and the view is fantastic. If you are coming in by transit, the location couldn't be better. We walked in and only had to cross 2 small bridges. It is a bit tough to figure out how to access the building as you go into the Grand Canal Hotel for your keys. We spent 2 nights here and have no complaints.

Description
The area of Piazzale Roma is a meeting point of two worlds, Venice and the mainland, and the Santa Chiara hotel is the synthesis of this meeting: its one door in the street and another one on the water. From Piazzale you enter a small courtyard, surrounded by the reception hall of the hotel, which is full of flowers and can be distinguished by the fountain sound. Ideal for a bit of relaxation in the hottest periods of the year! When you enter, you discover the interior decor in a perfect Venetian style: the attention is captured by the Murano glass chandeliers, precious fabrics and antique furniture. There is the reception on the right and a small lounge on the left. Further along, there is the bar and the breakfast room, both overlooking the Grand Canal and a very Venetian Santa Chiara embankment (Fondamenta di Santa Chiara). Getting out through the door on the canal, an Old world and, at the same time, a New one, is discovered: the "cars" float on the water, the rhythms change, the sounds and the perfumes are different. The property also offers airport transfer, bar, conference facilities, internet access-high speed, laundry service, lobby, non smoking rooms, reception, room service, safe deposit box and tour desk.

This was my second stay in this hotel, however, this time I stayed in their new facility (Residence Parisien) 100 meters from the Hotel just next to the waterbus station. Very nice and big room, however, facing the car parking at Piazza le Roma. The breakfast was at the hotel was OK, but we were not allowed for extending the check-out by... half an hour.

Excellent location for shopping and dining if you have no problems climbing stairs. Night desk man was very curt and unfriendly, however daytime desk man was excellent and provided us with every request we made. Upon arrival, we were to go to a different venue, but after insisting we were able to stay at the original location.

Excellent service. Pre cruise we got upgraded to their 4 star property with a view of the canal; after we got a fantastic room. The people who work there are so pleasant and helpful. Perfect place for people with luggage as it is close to the train station and bus station where the buses drop off from the airport. We would certainly stay again if we ever go back. They have earned their A+ status on tripadvisor for sure.

Description
Boasting traditional floors "alla Veneziana" and typical local lead-latticed windows created by Murano glass masters the guest house offers a complete array of modern services provided in the best guest houses in Venice. This mix of tradition and modernity has been the guiding spirit of Gianfranco and Marco, the young Venetian owners, in overseeing every detail to make it one of the best hotels next to the Grand Canal.Every morning, for example, particular care is paid to breakfast, served (upon request) either at the dining hall or in your room.In the evening, you may participate in a "briefing" that includes suggestions and detailed recommendations to help guests see places that are less likely to be visited by the common tourist, and discover with little effort the magic, history and mystery of the city: from Hugo Pratt's Imaginary Venice (adapted from his Corto Maltese drawings and texts) to a Venice of fun and pleasure of the old taverns. The hotel also offers the amenities like Lobby and reception.

Description
CA' SAN POLO are three small residential structures made out of a 15th century palace and owned by the Mioni family who has been working in hotel field for four generations. The palace is located in S.Polo quarter, the heart of the old town centre, in an extremely peaceful place throbbing with daily folk life and filled with genuine Venetian breath , a stone's throw from the enchanting Frari Church that houses the famous Titian's Assumption. Fabio Mioni himself took care of every single particular during the 2003 restoration that followed down to the smallest detail the lines of the traditional Venetian style and design thus obtaining several bedrooms of all sizes that, just for being that special, could be described as real rarities. The three residential structures are provided with lift and their rooms with all sorts of equipment, furniture and fittings that make Ca' San Polo a first-class establishment: some of them have king-size bed, all of them offer all modern comforts such as air conditioning, direct telephone, satellite TV, safebox and minibar: in the bathroom hairdryer, shower or bathtub. The structure on the third floor has a large, sunny and under-the-roof hall with a beamed ceiling; on top of that there is a typical Venetian wooden terrace on the roof, the so-called altana, where a bird's eye view is offered. At CA' SAN POLO the extensive experience, expertise and kindness of Fabio Mioni, all traits that have been transmitted to the carefully selected and expertly managed staff, guarantee a top level service and the certainty that your holiday in Venice is a real "dream come true.

Venice 2010

  • none
  • 23 Aug 2010
Overall it was good, the location was great - about halfway between the St. Lucia station and St Mark's square. The only downside was that the second bed in the room was a mattress on slats, 2 of which fell and would not stay in place, so it was like sleeping on an old style pull out couch mattress. Expected better for the price. Staff was friendly and breakfast looked great (we woke up too late to have it).

We picked this hotel based on location and cost, plus breakfast provided. The breakfast was good although fresh fruit would have been a nice addition. Coffee was very good. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The roof top deck was lovely. However the "triple" room was very small and one bed was a rollaway. The bed covers could have been cleaner. Although the hotel is on a noisy lane, the windows were effective at sound proofing. However since the air conditioning was less than adequate the noise proved to be a problem. Next time we will pay the extra to stay in a higher rated hotel.

Great location. Quite a hike up to the 3rd floor of the building - 68 steps and no elevator. Overall the room was clean and neat but average. Most of the staff were friendly and most spoke english. Breakfasts were okay, but the coffee sucked (only brewed coffee - no capacinos).

Hotel was nice, great location, it was hard to find, we walked and walked thought we will never get there. Our room had two twin beds in it, personally it was about as big as my masterbedroom closet in Houston, but hey this is Europe, The a/c could have been better, we got up every night and just couldnt get the room cooler. Breakfast was ok, they dont replenish the food right away, but again hey this is Europe.... the owners were great they had recommended several local restaurants to us, so we could avoid the crowd and have a special meal and night to ourselves. The steps? well there is 70 oops no I stand corrected there are 69 steps to climb to get to the reservations desk, and your room.. Again this Europe. We had a great time, and would go back, but would request a larger room..

The best thing about Gardena Hotel

  • Anonymous
  • 23 Dec 2010
The best thing about Gardena Hotel Venice was Ivan, who couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. He suggested an excellent nearby restaurant, a tour, minded our bags for us, and was unfailingly courteous, warm and friendly. The hotel was close to the station (ideal for us with very little time, and heavy bags), comfortable and reasonably priced. On the booking site it was said to have wi fi, which was incorrect. That was our only quibble, and Ivan more than made up for that.

Romantic Canal View on a Budget

  • Puffalong
  • 30 Aug 2011
This place was hard to find. If you book here, make sure you have absolute exact directions(maybe copy a few internet pictures for bearings.) One of the wonderful things to do in Venice is get lost but it ain't so great if you lugging your suitcase up and down stairs over bridges and over the cobblestone streets of Venice. Breakfast was light but if you are on a budget, there is a nice bakery a few doors down or there is the CO-OP grocery store for an inexpensive picnic meal. This place was clean, quiet, comfortable with no drawbacks. Would choose this place first next time I go to Venice, regardless of price. Grand Canal rooms can have as much noise as being next to a freeway; since these canals are only really used by the locals, you don't get that "touristy-feel" with all the traffic & noise. The plaza(piazza) close by is an excellent place to relax in the evening after a day of exploring/touring/getting lost.

El problema de Al Doge Beato Hotel

  • Anonymous
  • 10 Nov 2010
