Great value!

The Hotel Spagna was a great place to stay - economical and comfortable. While not plush, it provided all the necessities. It was very clean and the breakfast included with the room rate was very good. Most importantly, members of the staff, especially the front desk personnel, were absolutely excellent. I have never had better! They arranged tours, gave directions readily (even to friends who were not staying there), arranged transportation (even for friends who were not staying there), etc - and all without charge! I will certainly stay there again when in Venice!

Be sure you take a boat to Murano and visit all the glass artists! It is an absolutelyl wonderful island, and just a short boat ride from Venice!!! Take a boat taxi - no more than $8 Euros.

Great Location

It was my first trip to Venice. With the price, this was the best hotel at great location. It was not easy to find for the first time because of small entrance, but you realize it is right in the center of all actions.

nice stay for budget minded

this hotel is right in the middle of everything and a short walk if you arrive by train - especially late at night when you have no idea where you're going. the room is spacious with air conditioning, but the beds are very uncomfortable. the bathroom was nice and spacious. the staff was very friendly. breakfast was sub-par. overall, this hotel is nice for 1 or 2 nights, beyond that, i would stay somewhere else.

Hotel Spagna

Staff was friendly, breakfast very nice, location convenient, and air-conditioning wonderful. Room was small--but ok for the low daily rate. A bargain!! Location is convenient: close to Giglio station (when coming to and from airport) and to Farrovia vaporetto station. Easy walk to Rialto. Cheap internet.

Great hotel, great personnel

I found an inexpensive room through Ebookers for visiting Venice (alone) and booked hotel Spagna for 5 nights. The hotel was very near the Piazzale Roma and the railway station and was very easy to reach. Also in walking distance from San Marco (the island isn't that big after all). I preferred staying a little bit further from the "center" of Venice, Piazza San Marco, but never needed the vaporetto to go anywhere on the island. The main thing about Venice is to wander around the beautiful paths and piazzas. There were lots of restaurants and everything I needed nearby the hotel. The staff was VERY helpful and I had enjoyable conversations with the receptionists. Some of them spoke better English than the others, but they understood me well. You may rehearse your Italian with them, as I tried to do. Only the breakfast was just a little bit disappointment, as they usually are in Italy, because it contained only couple of white buns, croissant and some cereals. Though, Italians aren't used to eating heavy and healthy breakfasts as we in Finland. The Hotel Spagna was perfectly clean and rooms cozy. Didn't miss anything really. I would recommend it.

Nightlife tip: Short walk from hotel

If you want to meet local young people in the evening, go to Campo Santa Margherita's... It's a 15 minute walk, but it's quite easy when you get used to it. Venice's nightlife isn't that great otherwise...

Hotel Spagna is an excellent hotel

Hotel Spagna is an excellent hotel in a great position. It is 10 minutes walk from piazzale de roma and is very easy to find. The staff are very helpful and all speak very good English. There is range of shops nearby and the one next door sells cold drinks and will open your bottles of beer and wine if you forgot the corkscrew. There were only a couple of minor points and they are that there is no fridge in the room and oversize Americans will find the shower cubicle a bit small. I booked this hotel through [this website] as the rate charged €62 per night was way less than through any other agent. I had a front facing room and the only noise heard from the street was when a talented cellist played outside my window. This hotel is highly recommended and I would stay there again.
