Lot's of Charm

Great experience in the heart of Hamra with its shopping, restaurants and cosmopolitan feel. Three blocks from American University Beirut, which is an oasis amidst the hustle and bustle of the city. The hotel is old but well maintained, with an old world charm and historic character. The wait staff at breakfast were wonderful; the desk staff were helpful if not overly chummy. Our room was small but more than adequate for a week long stay. The bathroom had been renovated and was nice and clean. The TV is hard to work, but once figured out had dozens of channels in several languages. The minibar provided a steady supply of bottled water for our excisions around the city and country (however, the red wine was awful). The in room safe was too small for my notebook. Internet access was fast, but took multiple steps to go online. Felt safe and secure at all hours. We'll stay here again.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

American University Beirut is a calm oasis suitable for a stroll and/or latte sitting on a bench and watching the Med. The on-campus archeological museum is interesting. Nice hike down to the coast and then walk along the coast to see the Pigeon Rocks.

Classical

Actually, was in Beirut to attend my friend's wedding, and the atmosphere of Mayflower is still same as I knew it long when it was rented by AUB as housing for students, well kept over the years, and it is perfectly making the long stays relaxing and joyfull.

A very pleasant place to stay,

A very pleasant place to stay, nice people, comfortable rooms, good breakfast, connexion to internet, cozy pub... Only the room making up was a little slow, just forget to have your room made in the morning if you hang around, but irrelevant when you leave the hotel for the the whole day. As a whole, I recommend it if you have a middle income. You will be happy with the value of your money!

Well, well, well.. How to say.

Well, well, well.. How to say. unless you need to stay around the American University in Beirut, why would you want to stay in this area? Too far from downtown and too far from the Corniche (pidgeon rocks). maybe I had a bad day but the room I got was undescribable. Wish I could post pictures. Then again, better for the hotel like this. However I have to say internet connection was chargeable but very good. so no complaints here. Breakfast was good. Considering that Beirut is really expensive I give the pricing a "good", otherwise it would be way overpriced. Tried to arrange some trips with the service desk but I couldn't lose the feeling that they did get a hefty commission out of it and therefore they prefered to sell me utterly overpriced options. No bad feelings, but would I stay there again? I doubt, I wouldn't say no but too inconvenient.

A bit faded but scrupulously clean.

A bit faded but scrupulously clean. The bar is fantastic and I'd stay at the Mayflower again for that factor alone.

I would recommend Mayflower as

I would recommend Mayflower as a good place to stay for people traveling on vacation who want to explore Beirut and neighboring cities (like I did). The hotel is centrally located and compact so the receptionists can respond to your requests promptly and you don't have to wait in line like in big hotels (e.g. Crowne Plaza, Radisson, etc.). Food during buffet breakfasts was good. You can feel that the receptionists are very loyal to the hotel guests and care about them.

Hotel barely qualifies as a 2 star

Restroom had MOLD! The hallways had a horrible odor along with the rooms. Everyone at the front desk except for one gentleman named [...] was completly unhelpful and very unfriendly. It appeared they hated being at work. The hotel looks like it was last remodled when the Mayflower actually sailed.
