Malta Vacation

The Dragonara was a very nice hotel for the money. The staff was curteous and helpful...however, don't waste your time with their restaraunts...especially Quadro...too expensive, pretentious, without the taste. Did not even try to be shy about their lack of quality food preparation. Just bad period.

The Malija on the corner was probably the best restaraunt in Malta...EAT THERE...NOT AT THE HOTEL !!!!

Seaside elegance but nickeled and dimed

Best experience: Island tours with Uphotomalta. See all the highlights of Malta with a terrific guide, small group, and chance to taste local cuisine not easily found on your own. Post Office: There's one within 2 blocks (ask at desk). The hotel gift shop won't sell you stamps unless you buy their overpriced postcards. Food: Buy wine and food at grocery located by Hilton Hotel (Portomaso Mall). The hotel's only option for breakfast is an expensive buffet (which is huge and diverse); walk a few blocks for more options. Best steak ever was at Buffalo Bill's nearby (ask at desk). Weather: Constant temperatures in the mid-70s, day and night. We kept our balcony door open all night for the fresh air, but the hotel bar was below and it was sometimes very noisy early into the morning. Computer: To print your boarding pass you must rent a computer for at least 30 minutes. Casino: You have to go through a check-in procedure to enter after standing in line. Not worth it once you get in.

Money-saving tip: In Hotel

Hot water pots are available in the rooms but you have to pay for instant coffee ($3.00+ per cup) or tea. Bring your own instant drinks to add to water.

Awesome holiday getaway

Loved the private beach. Always able to find a lounge chair and umbrella. The Executive rooms were great. You can choose to have breakfast in the Executive breakfast room or downstairs in the normal breakfast room. Also every night at 1800 you can have snacks and drinks in the Executive main room. Rooms were air conditioned and quiet. Staff was always friendly. Thanks to the superb concierges, George and Malcolm, who assisted us in trips and where to dine.

Great location and waterfront view

We stayed for the long holiday weekend and ate mostly at the hotel because of holiday closures. The buffet was very well done, and the bar/lobby service and food was very good. The overall service was fantastic - from the concierge to the reception and fitness staff - everyone was helpful and friendly even though the hotel was fully booked. The only downside was a slight musty smell in the rooms, granted we were seaside. The bathrooms were fully renovated as per Starwood style. The hotel caters to families and there were plenty of kids so don't expect the quiet/spa adults-only getaway.

Sightseeing tip: In Hotel

The concierge booked the hop-on/hop-off bus and arranged for free transport to the pick-up location. Great way to see the entire beautiful island and key spots.
