I spent the night here with a friend and was not overly impressed. The hotel was nice enough, clean, and breakfast downstairs was good. The biggest problem was the noise and the smells. The hotel was extremely noisy. Everything echoed. It sounded like people were having converstaions inside your room instead of in the hallway. We enjoyed relaxing by the pool, but it's right by the trash dump and it made the experience less than desireable.

Very Good Combination of Price and Location
The Location is very good it you want to try the local cuisine. The staff was OK. They're helpful and might provide you with useful information if you are nice to them. The room was very clean and nice. A dark side is that the room didn't have a cooler. It is a little far form the clubs and beach area (20 min by bus or 10 by taxi). However the closest bus station from the hotel is almost 500 ft away. In General this hotel is an excellent combination of price and location. I'd totally recommend it.

There are buses 24/7 every 5-10 minutes. If you want to go to the ZONA HOTELERA (Hotel Zone) take R-1, R-2 or the buses that have Zona Hotelera written on the top. the buses are very cheap almost 60 cents per ride.

Very Clean but Plumbing Issues
The Ramada is the absolute cleanest budget hotel I have ever stayed at outside the U.S. It is located on a street that has nightlife almost until sunrise, but even with all the loud music in the neighborhood the hotel was absolutely quiet (my room was overlooking the pool away from the street). This is something the other hotels on Av. Yaxchilan cannot claim – check reviews for noise at Hotel Xbalamque and Caribe International. This hotel is a major renovation of the old Hotel Margaritas so it gives the appearance of a new building with an older layout. The lobby has a very small check-in desk. The hotel restaurant shares the lobby space. The elevator is new. Lobby walls and floors are white and cleanliness is apparent. The rooms have new beds and 26” flat-screen TVs. There were a few English TV channels but no news channel in English. The toilet was new and worked fine. Unfortunately, the renovation was only skin deep. The bathrooms have serious plumbing problems. In both rooms I stayed in the sinks did not drain properly and there was very low water pressure in the showers. More serious was the smell of rotten eggs in the water from the shower and sink. This offensive sulfur smell lasted the entire two weeks I stayed in the hotel. They did have hot water all day – something you don’t always find downtown. I switched rooms after a few days because I could not get a Wi-Fi signal in the first room. They know which rooms have strong signals so if this is important to you, ask for a room with strong Wi-Fi. In both rooms the wiring under the desk had two different wires joined with electrical tape and no wire nuts – you should be careful if you choose to sit at the desk! The courtyard with the pool is small and the building is five stories tall which means there are only 2 or 3 hours where the pool has sun. It looks like there are plans to expand the building on one wing with steel rebar coming out of the ground – you might want to make sure the building is not under construction during your visit. The maid service was very unreliable, even though there was an envelope provided for daily tips. Something was not replenished each day – be it non-decaf coffee, coffee stirrers, wash cloth, etc. One day the regular coffee that I didn’t use the prior day was replaced with two packs of decaf. Go figure. There are many local restaurants and clubs on the street and many more a short walk through the park near Av. Tulum. Waiters all speak English and the food is reasonably priced. The hotel restaurant is only open for breakfast. In short, the hotel is budget-priced and in a good location (if you prefer local restaurants and a small city environment to a beach setting). If you can get beyond the plumbing issues, you will enjoy this hotel and its neighborhood.

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
There is no shortage of Mexican cuisine but eventually you will yearn for something else. It is a short walk to Av. Tulipanes – a sidestreet off Av. Tulum (at Burger King) with several international restaurants. La Gran Gula is a Hungarian restaurant with excellent Gulasz. Even better is the Turkish restaurant next door called Marmara which serves many dishes from central and Eastern Europe. The Turkish meatballs with the cheese centers were the best thing I ate in Cancun – maybe the best thing I ate all year! The owner Baltur is an excellent conversationalist and speaks English, Polish, Russian and 3 or 4 other languages. La Veneziana Da Bertilla has Italian food. The next street over has Crustaceo Cascarudo which specializes in seafood but which has the best tacos with plenty of meat and toppings all for around $8 USD. Before you sit down at a restaurant find out how much the water costs. One restaurant might charge $3 for a bottle of water and the next restaurant might only charge $1.

Cancun Stay
Hotel was clean and in a great location downtown close to the shopping centers. Bathroom was a tight squeeze but sufficient for a quick nights stay. Price was right as well for my need.

Surprised and wise choice
This hotel was completely remodeled several years ago. I stayed here before it was remodeled. If you prefer staying downtown as I do and not in the Hotel Zone than this is the place because I have now stayed in three other hotels within this triangle and this is by far the best of the three. The price for me was a bargain. The maid service outstanding. The pool was large, clean. The room furniture is modest, comfortable large bed, an extended table and chair, flat screen t.v. The bathroom and shower and towels etc were wonderful. Needless to say I was pleased to be back in this location and in this hotel.

Good place to sleep and relax
This hotel was a fine place to stay. There are a lot of bars and restaurants nearby. The rooms have been recently redone with a modern design theme, which I appreciated. The breakfast buffet is far better than room service breakfast. We didn't get a chance to try any of the other meal buffets, but would. I'm not sure where the best beaches are in relation to this hotel. We rented a car, so were off on day trips during our stay and didn't stay around Cancun much. It was a nice place to stay and relax after an action filled day. The nightclub area is a short taxi ride away if that is what draws you to Cancun. The airport is nearby as well.

Exceeded our expectations
We were looking for a value hotel in this Cancun trip without compromising on cleanliness of the hotel. We also wanted to experience the Mexican culture by staying downtown. Hence, we chose this hotel. Going in, we had expected a 'basic' hotel similar to some Super 8s or Comfort Inns in the US that are basic but very clean. This hotel actually exceeded our expectations in that it is new and was very clean with a fairly modern look in the rooms. They cleaned the rooms and swimming pool everyday with soap water and scrub until the last stain comes off! We personally witnessed it. The staff was very friendly, polite, and helpful. For example, we asked for some rice for our three year old as she wouldn't eat anything else and they gave it to us for free. Actually, we found this to be true for every single local we came across at Cancun; the people are very nice and friendly. We traveled by bus extensively and every time my daughter/wife did not find a seat, somebody offered one to her just as soon as we boarded the bus. As for traveling to the hotel zone, we took the bus every single day of the six days we were there and not once did we have to wait longer than five minutes to get on a bus. It costs 8.5 pesos/person. We also wanted to experience the beach, the lounge chairs, etc. We contacted the Front desk and they gave us the coupons for 'Cabana' beach in the hotel zone that let us use their facilities, towels, lounge chairs, etc. for a very reasonable price. We paid USD 10 for two people and spent 5 hours on the beach enjoying the fabulous Caribbean. This hotel is also at a walking distance from many good restaurants, Market 28, and bus station. There is a 24-hour pharmacy right next to the hotel where you can buy water, candies, snack bars, juices, etc. We had read some comments about the loud music in this area and hence, chose a room away from the street (overlooking the pool). Once the patio door was shut and the A/C was on, we couldn't hear a thing but if we left it open, we could hear some music. Originally, we also had some concerns about safety around this area that were ruled out on day one. The area is mostly residential and very safe at any time of the day. Finally, as far as the facilities go, this hotel does not even come close to the all-inclusive five-star hotels in the hotel zone. However, if you are looking for value and a comfortable, clean place to stay at 20% price of the hotels in hotel zone and wish to experience local Mexican culture, this is the hotel for you! We definitely recommend this hotel.
