unorganized and not finished
The Hotel was NOT finished like it shows on the web site, arrived at 12:30 in the afternoon, this was the second day it was opened they claim the rooms were not ready yet, well by 6:30 pm we were looking at many rooms we were put in one of the suites and promised we would not be charged for the hotel portion that was fine with us,other then that it was a nice place and will be a beautiful place when done. oh still waiting for that reimbursement

Worst Management ever
The facilities were ok, No bar on the pool though. The room was very good. The fact that you ve to do reservations for the restaurant is just not convenient. The other option is to order room service which takes forever. The comunication between the restaurant and the front desk/concierges is terrible.

It's Ok
Pretty place, great view, very noisy. Food Ok and staff friendly. The problem I have with Villa is that i booked a 2 bedroom suite with a total of 4 people. i paid all inclusive for all four but my guest left the same day they arrive because they did not like resort. Villa charged me for meal plans for 4 people but only 2 people was at the resort. When i checked out, i asked to speak to a manager which I never fot to because for whatever reason they wouldn't come out. I was told by the check out staff that my account would be reimbursed the total amount for 2 meal plans. When i asked for somethign in wirting, the worker could not could not understand what I as asking. She kept on pointing to the receipt amount of what i paid. No manager, no communicaiton. I coldn't stay to resolve the issue because I would have missed my flight. I cannot get a hold of them. Still waiting on reimbursment.

small gateaway!
We took our trip to get a week away from the everyday. We left the kids and went by ourselves. We got to cancún and even though it said that there was no wait for our transportation we ended up waiting like 20 minutes. We took like fourty five minutes to get to the hotel. The hotel itself was ok. It's still under construction so only one part is open. They took like one hour checking us in because they were trying to sell us on a timeshare. Anyways......we finally git in the room and it was pretty nice, kichenett, nice size bathroom and balcony. Fully stocked mini bar, coffee, and snacks.24 hour room service and the staff was friendly. We needed reservations for one of the two restaurants they have " I don't know why." The atmosphere was quiet. They had two pools and the website said swim up bar pool.....LIE its not done. The other restaurants not done yet. The water at the beach was not turquoise because its at the very end of cancún. The casona restaurant is so nasty.....not even breakfast was good. The reservation restaurant zama that was was better. The cocktails and drinks soooo bad, no flavor and just plain bad. The good thing is that we were luckily awarded two day passes to cancún palace resort and Omg! SO GOOD. THEY HAVE AWESOME staff, restaurants, drinks so good and the water was turquoise. Overall the stay at villas del palmar was ok. Minus the food. I think with different chefs they would do a lot better.

New, but still not a well-oiled machine
This hotel is nice and new, however it isn't yet a well-oiled machine. Food/restaurant options on-site are not great. I had to call the staff on multiple occasions to get them to install a safe in my room. Twice during my stay my room hadn't yet been made up by 4pm.

Beautiful grounds but horrible food
On the positive side, the resort is very beautiful. The grounds look amazing, very cleaned and manicured, with multiple pools featuring bridges, some waterfall and multiple temperatures - they had two pools which were kept especially warm which I loved since I hate cold water. The beach is not the greatest - the ferry to Isla de la Mujeres is right there, the water is cloudy and seaweedy. On the negative side - the food is both bad and badly managed. It sound like a joke, I know, but I have to say that the food was bad but there wasn't enough of it! They served the exact same thing every day. You would see people looking in the warmers and passing them by because nothing looked appetizing. Don't expect more than one cup of coffee at breakfast. They had no one who checked on whether the food was refilled so you would go to a buffet and have half the offerings missing entirely - and they wouldn't be refilled for up to a half-an-hour. It was a constant struggle to find something to eat. They had zero options for kids at the buffet. We bought an all inclusive package. In order to get served we were required to wear a bracelet the entire time and even then you had to sign a bill with all the ridiculous prices on it at every meal. Normally, the buffet is the one place at an all inclusive that you can go at any time, but be warned, at this place you have to make a reservation for every place you want to eat dinner at - and a lot of times they have no availability. This puts you in the unfortunate position of having to decide days before when and where you want to eat - there can be no spontinaity. While we were there, they only had one restaurant and one buffet. On our third day they opened another restaurant. It was a pasta, steak and pizza restaurant. They had no salad at the salad bar, no pasta at the pasta bar was refilled and the line for the pizza was out the door and never moved. We walked out. In fact, towards the end of the vacation we went to the supermarket and got our own food to eat in our room because it wasn't worth going out the fight for the swill. I know they consider themselves a start up even though they have been there for a year, but I feel that after a year they should have gotten themselves together a little. There were hardly any activities. When you get there they refuse to hand you a map or orientation until they get a chance to sell you on their time share presentation. Finally, they give you a schedule of activities but even the few on the list don't actually always happen. The kids club had a schedule with "cooking" on it but when we asked they said they weren't doing it. "Beach Games" were on the schedule for 11:00 but didn't happen till 2pm. I know we are on vacation but I would like to be able to plan a few activities without checking back constantly. We started to joke that, if they were going to make up activities that don't happen, they should come up with something more exciting like skydiving or parasailing. Only once did anyone ever offer to bring me a drink at the pool. Once a waiter asked us if we wanted food while we were at the kiddie pool. We ordered and the food never came. I know this is long winded but I think people should be warned. The place is beautiful but terribly managed. I recommend you don't eat there.

good but service / food need improvement.
Our experience was a mixed bag. It is a very beautiful property and meets high expectations for sure. The service lacked, they were under staffed especially over the holidays. The food selection in the buffet needs to grow and improve. For a high star resort like this one you should have more options at your meal time. Our biggest pet peeve was that it is a family friendly resort, with a great kids pool area, etc BUT yet they don't have a kids menu? what's up with that? It was so hard to get something for my son to eat that was kid friendly each night. They did cater to him in the end each night but we had to ask every single night if something could be made for him. EG) new years eve was a set menu of lobster and steak. How many 5 year olds eat lobster and steak? If your does you are very fortunate but many won't or don't... There was nothing offered to kids at all even at the buffet? also i kept reading that this resort was super quiet and not for party people, which is true but no one mentioned just that there was NOTHING to do at all! There was only 1 night out of 10 that had something happen, nothing even during the day except yoga that was done 3 times and that was it.. All in all the resort is stunning but lacks in every other way? From what we actually received out of this resort we paid WAY too much for our vacation!

Best and Worst
We stay at the Villa Del Palmar last week and had an ok time. The hotel is beautiful (just like the Del Arco in Cabo). That's one of the reasons we chose to stay there. It is pretty far away from town, but that didn't bother us that much. What was terrible was the cleanliness of the room, or should I say lack of it. I am a cleaning nut, I'll be the first to admit it, so I made the bed and cleaned up the room myself. We were in a one bedroom suite that was and oceanfront room. It was gorgeous, however, they only cleaned our room 2 times while we were there. They did attempt to come after 5PM on 2 nights, but I was so disgusted, I told them to leave towels and go. I did complain to the front desk, and after that, they came even later. They did not refill our water until I asked them, and just did a very poor job on the cleaning. The staff was very friendly, however very understaffed. I was told 125 new people were coming to work there on April 1. There were 3 restaurants opened and they were mediocre. The breakfast buffet was good, however things got cold fadt because it was outside. Lunch was good and dinner was fair. I do not ever think we will be going back to this hotel.

gorgous but noisy
There is most definitely a Wow factor when you enter this brand new resort. numerous sparkling infinity pools- magnificent grounds and a very high end feel to the rooms. The problem is the U shape configuration with all rooms facing into the courtyard and all the restaurant activity. There is a lot noise until the wee hours and no unit is immune from it. The other problem is that all the hotel or studio units are attached to 1 bedroom units. the lockoff door provides a very minimal sound barrier. I wanted peace and serenity but found myself in a mixed group of timeshare owners who wanted this as well and packaged all inclusive 20 something vacationers who wanted to party. I will likely not book this resort again for these reasons but I did appreciate the beauty of the resort, the most accommodating staff and the incredibly comforable beds and the kitchens in the units. I did get excellent value for what I paid for this hotel

Gorgeous hotel but it's deserted!!
This hotel is absolutely gorgeous and brand new. It's very clean, hotel staff is very nice, the pool area is stunning but the biggest downfall is that it is in the middle of nowhere :( Fortunately, my friends and I booked two nights in the heart of Cancun at Riu Palace and we loved it! Location was key but we went to a wedding which was at Villa del Palmar so we spent our last night there. If you're looking for a quiet getaway maybe with a spouse and enjoy spending the majority of your time in the resort/pool then I would recommend Villa del Palmar. If you're young and looking for fun I say stay in the hotel zone in Cancun.
