Eurostars Hacienda Vista Real - Playa del Carmen

First the bad, very bad. I stayed here for one night and woke up the next morning to find that my credit card information had been stolen and an $800+ purchase had been made. The only person I ever gave my card to was the front desk and they used the old card machine that makes the carbon copy. Within 30 minutes of checking in the purchase was made. I would advise anyone who stayed there recently to check their bank accounts. Now the good. The hotel was actually pretty nice overall and had a cool tropical feeling. It was a bit outdated, but that added to the atmosphere. The breakfast was also very good. The location was good, but was difficult to find (don't use google maps for this) You have to go through a gate next to a shopping center and then go to the end of the road and there's the hotel.

Only one proplem the Bar and Restaurant closed at 3 pm after that there was no place to eat or socialize

This is a very difficult location to get to. You do need to rent a car and even then, you need proper directions which are hard to find. Once you are there, you will find that you'll need other options for food as this place does not offer variety. Hacienda does have a beautiful spa that is free of charge for all the "wet" areas, which includes an outdoor pool on the roof of the building and another on the lower floor with jets.(We had to discover this on our own) They don't advertise this, but should, as it may appeal to others.

The staff was extremely frendly and helpful. The decor of the hotel was a tradtional Mexican Hacienda,very warm and comfortable. We spent 14 nights there and it soon grew to feel like our home away from home. A short cab ride to 5th Ave and all of the fine restaurants of downtown Playa Del Carmen. A short walk to the golf course club house to play 18 holes on one of most beautiful courses you'll ever see. We recommend it highly.

Need a car here. Nice facilities and secure. The Jacuzzi was broken and there were charges for the SPA so the only facility to use was the pool. Breakfast was repetitive and cold often. There were added charges for most things which is annoying, especially for late check outs. Had to ask for more towels and sheets a few times. Room was nice but small, dark and facing the hallway. This is not a 4 star hotel.

The hotel room was lovely with a nice kitchen and large refrigerator. The breakfast was very good and enjoyable. The golf course is beautiful as a back drop to the hotel. However, the hotel is not on a beach. It is a 15-20 minute walk to town, which isn't bad, but is a bit annoying if you are going 2x's a day to hit the beach and then have dinner later in the evening. If you want to play golf on the course, it is a 20 minute walk to the entrance of the club house in 80-100 degree weather. We were told that there was no pickup service even though the clubhouse was directly across the course from the hotel. For those people who choose to stay here I recommend renting a car or planning on hiring taxi services.

We felt we got what we paid for being the least expensive option in a secure playcar location.

This is a nice place and a bit out of the way. It is neither on the beach nor in the bustle of downtown Playa del Carmen. The walk into the start of the town is about 10-15 minutes and almost the same to the first public beach. Their pass to the central Indigo Beach and some beach loungers did not work, but it was not too much of a problem. The breakfast is okay, but a bit on the Mexican side of the offerings. It is nice that breakfast is served till 11:30AM so you can almost skip lunch. The pool is a bit small and kidney shaped so lap swimming is not a possiblity, but it was ideal for our 4 and 6-year old grandchildren. And if you golf, it is right on the course. If you stay here, do get an Internet map of its location. Driving down from the Cancun Airport, you need to understand how to get off 307 and into Playacar. It takes going past the place south, and then using a returno to come back to the Playacar entrance. Once in Playacar, the signage to get to the Vista Real is not all that clear and distinct. A map is a very useful thing. All in all, this is a reasonable mid-range place to stay in Playa del Carmen.

Great hotel for the price. Bed was a little stiff but comfortable. Plan on walking at least 15 minutes to town and activites.

We were there March 1-11, 2012. The hotel is a smaller hotel located a 20-25min walk away from the beach through Playacar (a gated community that borders Playa Del Carmen). The neighborhood that its located in is extremely safe and our group walked everywhere. Taxi's were always available for US$7 if you wanted to get into town faster. Pool is ok and the available seating poolside filled up fast. But for the few days we spent at the hotel during the day this was fine. There is a free breakfast buffet everyday that offers good food. I wish they would've had the 5 gallon water coolers in each room. They did provide smaller bottles of water at no cost. Overall great experience for what we paid. The walk into/back from town being the only drawback.
