Beautiful property close to airport. Food is great, no kids, and beach is fantastic

My wife and I stayed at VIM for a week in January. We chose the resort on the recommendation of our friends as well as after careful reading of online reviews, and we felt we made the right choice. It was my first stay at an all-inclusive, so naturally I was not 100 per cent sure what to expect, but everything worked out just perfect. We stayed in a Deluxe Junior Suite in Building 4, which is close to everything. I recommend choosing a room on the third floor to avoid your windows looking out onto the lush vegetation. We could hear some noise from the hallway and the neighbouring rooms but it was not obtrusive or too annoying. We declined an upgrade offer, which was the right decision, as our room was more than enough for our needs (although I cannot say we are too picky travellers). With an upgraded room, you get a jacuzzi, but who would use one when you have a pool and the beach. Maybe it's just me, but you don't need to travel to Mexico to sit in a jacuzzi - you can do it with as much pleasure in Canada! Of the restaurants, I highly recommend L'Alsace (French) and L'Olivo (Italian) restaurants. For breakfast and lunch we usually went to Le Marche. We did go to Mar y Tierra for lunch once (the second buffet restaurant at the resort) but liked it less than Le Marche. Oh, and we loved the beautiful live saxophone music in the mornings at Le Marche! The ocean was rough pretty much all the time we were there but we did manage a few swims, and riding the waves was fun too. Still, we spent most of the time at the pool. As other reviewers noted, there are not enough palapas or chairs for all the guests, so you have to get up around 8 and 'book' your chairs/palapa by placing your beach towels on it. We found it a little uncomfortable as we like to sleep in on vacation, but I guess that's the rule of the game. There is a warning displayed on the resort TV channel that staff will remove all objects from pool and beach chairs after 15 minutes, but I never saw it happen once. Overall, we found our stay nice and relaxing, although the weather did not always cooperate and we had a couple of rainy and really cloudy days (unfortunately, our snorkeling trip to Xel-Ha happened on one of these days). We're not sure if we return, because we like to try and explore different places and we have not yet been to way too many places in the Caribbean to keep coming back to the same place, even a very nice one.

Upon arrival, we were greeted in a beautiful atrium and immediately served champagne. Check-in was quick and informative. My room was beautiful, clean, and roomy. Pay attention to the map, and try to get accustomed to the resort the first day as one can easily get lost. The pool is as beautiful as pictured on the website, and there are 2 swim-up bars. The beach is amazing, and has servers circulating regularly for drink orders (no food). The staff are all very, very friendly and helpful. The food at the 10 or so restaurants is all good, I especially enjoyed 'Ginger,' we ate in the hibachi private room. Room service is available 24/7 and is fairly quick. I highly recommend this resort, and found it was well worth the money--additionally, our taxi driver and both airport shuttle drivers (locals) said that the Valentin Imperial Maya resort was definitely one of the best in all of the area.

The hotel was excellent. Just as expected. However the ride to the hotel was terrible. Waited one hour, thirty-seven minutes for the Grayline Service bus to arrive. Two of the 4 in my party became sick from the diesel fumes in the loading area. They packed us and others in a relatively small SUV doing damage to luggage. Never again!

Valentin is rated as a 5-star resort and it definitely lives up to its rating. The variety and quality of the restaurants, the impeccable staff, and the attention to detail at this resort matches or exceeds resorts that have much higher price range.

That was our 5th stay at this hotel. Overall it's still a great place, but It was much better last year. The food is still excellent and the rooms are very clean. Unfortunately this time the staff didn't respect "do not disturb" sign on several occasions. Also, there used to be a turn down service - no more. It really was a nice touch. This time at the hotel we had to constantly call and ask to replace toiletries and get us towels. I hope they go back to the courtesy and pampering they used to provide in the past.

We booked our transfer from the airport to the hotel when we booked our hotel online. We waited an 1.5 hours for our shuttle to pick us up. They kept telling us 5 more minutes, blaiming it on traffic. But no other companies had trouble getting their customers moved out. It was very disorganized. We will be booking our transfers separately next time.

My husband and I just went here for our honeymoon and everything was incredible! The room was exquisite, the restaurants for dinner were amazingly delicious, and the location was beautiful! They had lots of activities to do, such as Spanish classes, dance lessons, yoga, pilates, bike tours, kayaking, snorkeling, etc., which ordinarily we would love, but since it was our honeymoon, we decided to just relax and enjoy the beach, pool and swim up bars. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone!
