Very nice
Nothing too fancy or luxurious, but overall good value. If you can, upgrade your rooms to get to the newer building. Extremely nice staff (free room service, they bring drinks to you at the beach, always very smiley!), less-than-average quality spa (old establishment but good service), good food (nothing amazing, but always good), and very nice location ($4 10-15mins taxi ride to town and hotel has own private beach). We weren't AT ALL impressed by the town. Everybody seemed to love it, but we just saw the usual boring souvenir shops, many Senor Frog type-bars, and some sketchy areas as you get further away from the center. Definitely not as pretty as we expected it to be. If you're looking for luxury, a beautiful, exciting town with a very cozy feel, then don't come here. But if your expectations aren't set too high, and are just looking for a nice, all-inclusive, quite get-away, this is definitely good value.

A very good vacation.
The filters in the room vents needed to be changed as they smelled musty when the air was turned on but the smell left room when the vent was turned off and the window/sliding door was opened to let in fresh air. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food and drink was very good, more so at the sit down restaurants than the buffet but even the buffet had tasty items. It was always easy to get a cab and we were told what price to expect to pay when we got to the destination. All in all a very good vacation!

Sightseeing tip:
Long walk from hotel
The zip lining that we did at Canopy River was fun but the walking between the zips was difficult. It was up hill with rocks and tree roots for the first several runs. If I were choosing again I would choose the one that is farther away (by car) and goes from platform to platform. There was no warning that the hiking would be difficult and feel that there should have been a disclaimer.

Amazing!!!
I love this place! It was perfect! Food was amazing! Breakfast is best at the Oceania and we loved dinner at the El Patio and Portofino. Spent most of our trip on the beach and in the ocean. Only downfall was nightly entertainment and I am not sure if that was because we went during the off season but we planned various activities off the resort that kept us entertained. The fire show at the resort is amazing! Our room was perfect with a beautiful view of the ocean. The maid service was great...they cleaned our room several times a day. We went in August 2011 and plan to return.

First Time Getaway
This place is a wonderful hotel/resort in that everyone literally will wait on you hand and foot. They are very cordial and awesome. They send out a list of activities each night for the next day so there is always something to do. I would highly recommend this place to friends and colleagues.

I would just take a cab to go to town for shopping for souvenirs (the price at the resort is ridiculously high).

Loved This Place for Years
My husband and I have loved Dreams Puerto Vallarta for many years; we also loved it when it was Camino Real. We have vacationed here at least 8 times. It is romantic "old Mexico", with elegant landscaping, beautiful wood, great food, and perfect service. DPV has the best, most private beach in all of Puerto Vallarta. We appreciate the "no bracelets, no towel cards, and no restaurant reservations" policy. This allows us to feel as if we're really on vacation and not be bothered with petty rules. Beach towels are plentiful all day long. Although the resort seemed to be near capacity, finding good beach seating (under a palapa) was not a problem. We never waited to get a table at any restaurant during our entire stay. This is not to say that there are not problems. The old tower is really showing it's age and needs renovations. The gym had only one usable treadmill 5/7 days of our visit; people were waiting in line to use it. We feel that another significant problem is the pools. The main pool is heated, but was crowded and noisy all day. The adults-only pool is beautiful and quiet, but this is because it was freezing cold during our entire visit. The small pool, close to the old tower, is also cold and has many leaves floating on the water, despite diligent cleaning on the part of the staff. Another annoyance was that wireless is free only for occupants of the Preferred Tower. For those staying in the old tower, wireless is $17/day, or $69/week, which we thought was ridiculous, as free wireless is pretty much an industry standard today. Lastly, and this is not the resort's fault, there seemed to be a large number of children who were completely unsupervised by their parents; they got in the way of waiters, bothered other guests, and were screaming & running in all but Portofino Restaurant (which is adults-only) - our sole sanctuary. We are sorry to have reached the decision that, in the future, we will be vacationing at adults-only resorts.

Great food, great service
Had a great time at Dreams. The food and service was better than I expected. The seafood was top quality. We had a smaller room in the old tower. The room was small, old looking, but clean and well kept. I spoke with other guests and there are nicer rooms available but we didnt spend much time in the room anyway. Too much fun outside!

Mexico Made Easy
Just returned from a trip to Dreams in Puerto Vallarta and, in two words, Muy Bien! The resort was just great - and I'm a tough critic. The property itself is clean, well tended, and spacious enough to give you room and options. The beach is really well kept and almost rock-free - really awesome waves. The restaurants are good - Oceana the best - and buffets always well stocked and fresh. We also went into town a few nights but is not a requirement by any means. The nightly bar scene was lively, but could use more entertainment. Only one night featured a band which made the whole thing better. Rooms were great and the views spectacular. Waves are big, so don't expect too many water activities to be open. And the "fun little walking jungle tour" offered through the activity center...unless you're in good shape and don't mind a few scrapes, it's not a walk in the park! Overall a 9/10 - you never have to leave the property it really is all inclusive. And the staff, a 10/10.

Used to love this place
I used to love this hotel, my family and I have been before. This time it seemed the food was lacking, I understand that because they cook for so many it will lack some flavor, but it used to be better as if they dont care cause they have their 4 diamonds now. I was also a little put off by the "reservation system" for the christmas eve dinner. It was supposed to be first come first serve to the nice out door buffet (food was much better that night) But the reservation was basically you had to buy a bottle of wine to get seated first (its all inclusive, I shouldnt have to buy more, esp if I dont drink wine) ANd I went to rock climb one day and they shut it down 45 minutes early! The guide took down the ropes as we were walking up. And lastly I got hives from the unclean state of the chairs by the beach. THE GOOD: The staff is mostly friendly, the room is super comfy and the view is great, going shopping downtown is funn and affordable.
