girls getaway

We chose grand bahia principe coba because the price was great for all inclusive and it was far from the party atmosphere in cancun- all confirmed upon arrival. The resort was giant and well maintained but it took a while to get around and seemed like leaving the resort was such process. Other than that and the fact that our ac didnt work and the bed was extremely firm, this was a great resort. The food was great and available at all times. There was plenty to do at the resort and great information for tours if you wanted to explore the area. I would recommend staying here for more than a week as it does that a long time to get around. I also recommend visitng Tulum and the nearby beaches especially playa paradiso- this place was unbelievably beautiful. Also visit the nearby beach and cenote- playa x'cacel and x'cacelito- gorgeous!

a little taste of heaven

Had a fantastic time at bahia principe, even better than last time. Awesome staff all round, everyone works extremely hard to make your stay perfect. Only disappointment the privileged guest staff who refused me a tour because my husband was not traveling with me. .it was quite a rude altercation but couldn't taint the overall great experience I had and the perfect wedding I attended.

Beach now full of algae

Food still very good at this hotel and this is why we keep on coming here. With that said the amount of algae that proliferate on the beach is absolutely crazy. If you're going there for the beach you may want to consider another destination.

Economical Vacation

A great first stay at Coba as a couple. The majority of the staff were friendly and attentive and the complex is set up for rest and relaxation. The hotel itself is a great value, but you need to know that you paying for a 3 star rather than a 5 star experience. A couple of things to keep in mind... Non-Buffet Meals: While we were told we would be eligible for three non-buffet dinners as part of our reservation. We were told to make the reservations for these meals at check-in. When we checked in the receptionist noted we were only eligible for one and we would be lucky to get two but that reservations could only be made at the concierge (who had limited hours). While we ended up with two reservations, both were very late (9:00 and 10:00 pm), and required a separate trip to the lobby. Check-In: When we requested a third floor room we were told the hotel was extremely full and that we were being given a premier room on the ground floor. We we arrived at the room it was extremely dark, smelled awful and musty, and faced a gully. Given that we were in Mexico for sun, we called the front desk and asked to be moved. After being placed on hold for a long time we were told the best they could do was another room with two double beds on the second floor. We decided to go back to the lobby to discuss our options and only when we physically walked to the front desk did a room with our desired qualifications materialize (top floor, king size bed). It was frustrating to have to go through so much trouble just to get a nice room (we had paid the extra money for the golden amenities) that could have been provided to us at the outset. It just felt like we were hustled/not being dealt with honestly which was not a great way to start the stay. Overall: After our less than stellar check in experience and negative interactions with the reception staff in the premier lobby, the hotel was enjoyable, and lived up to the positive reviews. It is a good value, but it is all inclusive, which we quickly learned means that the food is hit or miss, the drinks watered down, and the rooms a bit spartan. That being said for what we paid it was a great deal, the staff (with the exception of the premier reception who were less than friendly or forthcoming) were amazing, and the setting is absolutely beautiful.

Great Trip

Great hotel! My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time. The resort offered a great deal of variety as you were allowed access to the other Grand Bahia hotels. The shows were great. Food was great! Overall great time.

Just OK

Our visit was a little disappointing. Here are the key points: The hotel was not prepared for the number of people. They were frugal with towels, and there were nowhere near enough pool chairs to go around. The only way to get a seat was to get up early and save one. Beach seating was a little better but still not great. This was a problem because it meant that we had to decide the night before whether we wanted to hang out by the pool. The food was pretty good but sometimes things were mislabeled and the ice cream machines were often broken. The desserts looked nice but were just ok. The Mexican style dishes were the best. Big deal - we did not know that the Bahia Coba was not beachside!!!! We were told that it was the best for families but we would have been much happier staying at Tulum where the pool was beachside. We had to take a shuttle to get to the beach. It wasn't far but it wasn't the experience we were looking for. The hotel staff was just so-so. The restaurant staff was good but others less so. The concierge desk was not very helpful, and often backed up. On more than one occasion we waited in line only to get an insufficient response.

Pretty place, awful food

This resort was very beautiful with nice staff and large, clean rooms. We liked the idea of booking an all-inclusive so we could enjoy nice meals and comfort. While everything was very clean and well-maintained, unfortunately, the food was sub-par. My husband got sick the first day after eating at one of the a la carte restaurants (The Medeteranneo). There seemed to be a consensus among guests that the food was poor quality. The food that was served in the appetizer/dessert buffet was served the following day in the main buffet to give you an idea. The seafood had a horrible taste, wasn't fresh, and one staff member pointed out wasn't even from Mexico. Eesh. The vegetables were frozen, and stuck to the serving dishes. And for such a tropical climate, fruits and vegetables had little to no taste. While the buffet had plenty of selection, there were very few healthy options. Mostly dry, overcooked hamburgers and soggy french fries with little to no mexican options. Kind of what you might find at a low cost chain buffet. We actually couldn't even bring ourselves to eat there. The second night I had fruit for dinner. Not what you're hoping for on your "luxury" vacation. It definitely wasn't a 5 star hotel. While the staff was friendly and helpful in general, when my husband got sick, I was unable to get any help. Luckily it wasn't an extreme emergency, because the reception and info buttons on our phone had no one picking up on the other end. After about 10 tries, I got an answer from the front desk telling me to "pay for a doctor". After some insistence on my end, they agreed to bring extra water to the room. The inside of the safe also had a sharp piece of metal sticking out, which sliced my arm open. I brought it to the attention of the staff when I was checking out, just so it wouldn't happen again to the next guest. They didn't seem too interested.
