family friendly

We travel 3-4 times a year and stay in all inclusive hotels. This hotel is an excellent value. Service is excellent. Rooms are big and comfortable. Food is good. The only thing we didn't like its the beach: very rocky and a lot of weeds. Its very good for the families with teenagers. They have different sport activities during the day.

Relaxing vacation for anyone

Enjoyed our stay at Marina El CID very much. Excellent food, friendly staff, beautiful property, great pool. Rooms were clean. The room we booked initially was not ready so we had an upgraded room for the first night which was really nice and the bed was very comfortable. After that, the bed we had was really, really bad. For the inconvenience of having us switch rooms you would have thought they would have just let us stay in that type of room or one with a better bed. All in all we enjoyed our stay

Nice family holiday

Travelled with family of four including two teenagers. We upgraded to a one-bedroom unit that was very spacious and modern. Balconies were a nice size and housekeeping service was generally good, although we did not always get enough face clothes (seemed to be a laundry service issue, and not necessarily the maid's fault). In building 10 near the pool, the service carts on the path going to the restaurant and towel desk were noisy on the pavement sometimes during late night or early morning. Service was good to excellent among the staff. Drinks were brought promptly and beach drink service was very good. Table service was generally very good, drink orders were taken promptly and table was always cleared promptly. Staff were generally friendly and accomodating. Beach was very pretty, but not a great swimming beach because of rocks (better swimming to left near rock jetty) - there was some seaweed, but the beach was cleaned regularly and always looked nice. There were plenty of palapas and we didn't have trouble finding lounge chairs, even if looked for one after 9:00, but by that time the prime locations tended to be taken. Food was generally quite good with lots of choices at the buffet. The restaurants tended to be good with Alcazar -Mediterranean- being the best. Al la carte restaurant menus changed during the week, so some nights the menu selections seemed more interesting than others. There was not a problem getting restaurant reservations. New Year's eve dinner was very nice including lobster. Our kids met other teens through the teen activities (although this was near the end of the stay) and had fun on diving platform with new friends and playing water polo. Waterslide seemed to slosh people from side to side and was kind of rough and my teens did not care for it that much. My daughter did not want it to wear her bathing suit fabric. Overall, a really nice spot that was priced fairly reasonably.

Excellent location, better staff

Loved the location, the hotel setting, right in the middle of the jungle. For once I didn't feel like I was in a hotel in the US. Super friendly staff, best food I've ever had in an all-inclusive resort.

Unpleasant experience

We spent Christmas/New Years here (10 days) and could wait to leave pretty much from our arrival. I paid for ocean/pool view and got a lower floor view of the foul smelling mangrove swamp. We had problems with the room (musty, bad mattresses, insufficient towels even after many days of requests for towels equal to the number of people in the room), problems at check-in, pushy timeshare salespeople, inconsistent bartender drink pours and a rocky, seaweed covered beach. There is more I could say but you get the point.

Great time at Marina El Cid

The staff is the best asset in this hotel. Exceptional: Eduardo, Maria and Antonio are great assets at the buffet restaurant; always ready to please and a smile on their face; thank you so much. Alberto at the beach is also wonderful, going back and forth serving drinks to all. How does he remember who ordered what? The hotel has good location about 20 mins from airport. Food was great; amazing New Year's Eve menu. Beach is rocky; need water shoes. Beautiful walk by the marina. Many children. Nice New Year's Eve party.

Enjoyable but isolated with food poisoning

Our trip was enjoyable for the most part except for the inability to eat in desired dining locations so had to order take out in our room. Food poisoning ensued. Amenities are many as long as you do not desire to leave premises. Expensive to participate in activities offsite as taxis and other forms of transportation are limited and expensive. If you desire a resort with no plans to go offsite this is a great place to stay. If you want to site see stay elsewhere

family travel

When I arrived to check in, the front desk guy was not friendly and seems reluctant to serve me. I mentioned about my email request for the ocean view balcony room and he refused it by saying it's subject to availability. I, then asked about the resort credit that I was entitled to and he refused to honour it by saying it's not printed on my itinerary. It was off to a wrong start, but the bell boy was nice and drove us to the room. It's a bottom floor room facing the mangrove filled with mosquitos. The housekeeper must have left the balcony door opened and that's how the mosquitos got in. We then spent the next hour getting rid of it only to find water was leaking out of the basin causing a huge puddle on the tile floor that needed to be mopped upt. The manager was notified and suggested having someone repair this at almost 11pm. I was really tired after a long flight and prefer it to be fixed the next day. The manager was considerate and agree to have a room change. I was pretty satisfied to have another room the next day and the rest of the stay was quite pleasant. The food was really good. The beach is nice, but small. The housekeeper did an excellent job cleaning the room. Overall it was quite relaxing.
