Hyatt is a NRP 300 taxi ride from the centre of town, but then you are in a clean and quite surrounding. Great resort-style hotel. 5 Star (Nepal) quality. Very suitable for arranging trips to Bhutan or Tibet too.

I believe the Hotel is very Professionally managed & the comfort of the guest is of utmost priority. The staff in all areas was very courteous. Breakfast Buffet was quite nice & in house Dining too is excellent. Although a bit far ( about 20-30 mins) from the tourist shopping belt, but is manageable due to they have a periodical drop off service through out the day or taxis too are readily available.

Great food and service!!!

  • patricia
  • 28 Dec 2007
The Everest is not exactly a 5 star hotel but for the money the service and room quality are great. The Everest is very close to the airport but unfortunately farther from the Thamel and other tourist attractions than you might like. Although the minibar fridge waas not stocked nor operable, and the room was a bit grubby for a hotel billing itself as 5 star, the service and breakfast buffet were great!!! Central heating and plenty of hot water are truly amenities to boast of if visiting Kathmandu in winter time. The footmen really do sport Tibetan felt boots and costume just to remind you where you are!

  • 19 Jul 2011
The staff was really helpful and always friendly. It explained to us how to go around and provided us with maps, etc. The hotel smells very badly and it is not that clean. We considered of changing hotel because of the smell but the staff was so kind, we decided to complete our stay with the same hotel.

Fantastic service, location and price

  • jgz84
  • 20 Mar 2011
It's hard to say what a great experience Thamel Hotel gave me. I'd arrived in Kathmandu without any plans for three days after booking [...], and shortly after meeting the employees I had a fantastic trip planned for very cheap. It's true that there are tons of tourist organizations in the city but Thamel Hotel was the only one I came across that didn't seem to have any agenda besides making my trip a great one (and that included me staying elsewhere on my travels!).Fantastic restaurant/bar as well, they had Nepalese, Tibetan and Indian food as well as western choices. VERY reasonably priced and all the meals I had there were wonderful. On leaving, the staff gave me a few parting gifts to remember my trip even more fondly, I really can't recommend this place enough to budget travelers. They also had blazing fast wifi! The best wifi I'd had in three weeks of traveling! Also, my flight into Kathmandu from Delhi was bumped for a day so I had to cancel my first night's reservation and their policy was to charge me for the full night, but they simply put that money towards the rest of my stay.

Last Resort

  • Brock
  • 10 Nov 2011
The Kathmandu View Hotel is located in the heart of the Thamel District, which is convenient, but also why you might be kept up at night by quite a bit of noise, especially from bars etc. The pictures are obviously taken of the two nicest rooms, which you are unlikely to receive. The bedding was clean, but the place overall has a very worn down feeling. I don't hate this place, and the staff were friendly, but I'd be hard pressed to recommend this to anyone except as a last resort.

Nice for Kathmandu

  • KC
  • 23 Nov 2009
The hotel was in a busy area, but was set back off the road, so it was quiet in our room. The hotel decor was much older and run down than it looked like in the photos. We did get hot water. The restaurant didn't open until 7pm, and we were exhausted and thirsty, but had to go out to get some soda and snack so we could go to sleep. Our stay was satisfactory for the price. It also came up as an airport hotel, but it's a 1/2 hour from the airport.

A welcome retreat...

  • Jill
  • 20 Oct 2008
After a days sight seeing in Kathmandu the Hotel Malla is a welcome retreat. Set in attractive grounds with swimmimg pool and aviary it is a complete contrast from the dust and noise of the city. We stayed here at the start of our Nepal trip and also for the final night. It is in a fairly central location making it a good base for getting around. The rooms were clean and everything was in working order. We had 3 meals in the main hotel and one in their Chinese restaurant next door, food was good but not outstanding. Early breakfasts were organised on two mornings when we had flights to catch. The hotel has a few shops in the lobby and a small business centre. The staff were friendly and helpful.

THAMEL, Kathmandu,
Back to menu Return to top

Description
The Newars, the indigenous inhabitants Valley, were renowned for their craftsmanship. It is they who built the numerous pagoda temples and shrines, stone sculptures, metalwork and lavish carvings that you see everywhere. Their workmanship was of such high perfection that the Kathmandu Valley today boasts of seven World Heritage Sites. The architecture of the Newar towns and villages is very appealing. Their red-brick houses have intricately carved wooden windows and doors and sloping tiled roofs. However, in the name of modernization, these beautiful houses and monuments are coming down fast and are being replaced by multi-storied concrete buildings. Here at Hotel Tradition, we are committed to preserving and continuing those rich artistic traditions as well as the Valley's tradition of hospitality. The hotel is centrally located with easy access to local tourist attractions as well as restaurants, cafes and bars.

Exceptional location but degraded infrastructure. It is the third time I go to this hotel and I see nothing improved. The access to the Internet is bad and only in lobby. There should be easy access in rooms. Breakfast very poor quality and bad service.Little cleaning tables and little attention from employees.Very high price for the services which are not justified only by its location

The staff is friendly, competent and very helpful. The rooms definitely need to be upgraded and be kept cleaner. Carpeting on the floor may not be the best thing as electricity goes off for 16hrs a day (that's what I was told at the time of my visit 4/09), so running a vacuum may not be a very efficient way to clean the floor.
