The hotel was in an excellent location. Just a few minutes walk from the Amsterdam Central Station, which you will need to get around Amsterdam. The single bed room is nice and modern. A tad bit small but very comfortable. The only issue I had with the hotel was the fact that they didn't have a real computer lab. They only had 2 computers for public use and they charged for internet service.

Great Boutique Hotel, Large room, excellent amenities

  • JayBofNashuaNH
  • 19 Apr 2012
Temperature control is simple, but very noiseless, so it is not clear if it working fast enough. The blankets are soft and light, but too warm for comfort. Would have liked a less warm blanket, since temperature does not go too low. Great view of harbor and central station, which is about 5 to 7 minutes walk from the hotel. Overall experience is excellent.

This hotel was such a treat! Great location, and alot of character. Great staff and very cool ambience. I never used any of the restaurants in the hotel, but as always, they seemed abit pricier than some of the other local options closeby. I would return here without a question, and it is definitely bettter than the average hotel chain.

Description
In the heart of Amsterdam, you'll find the monumental building of Hotel 'Die Port van Cleve'. A hotel that combines history and hospitality with style and modern comfort. The hotels rich history and classic heritage sets the tone for its special atmosphere. The history of the hotel dates back to 1864 when G.A. Heineken opened his first Heineken brewery in the building. Due to the city council filling in the canal in front of the building in the name of modernisation, he moved to the present location on the Stadhouderskade. The Hulscher brothers continued the business and on 5 September 1870 a unique beer house, called Die Port van Cleve, opened its doors. It did not take long for it to evolve from a beer house into a restaurant with the 'De Poort' brasserie serving typical Dutch dishes and what were to become the famous numbered steaks. These steaks have been served since 1870 and in 1997 the magic number of 6,000,000 numbered and certificated steaks was reached. Evolving from a beer house to a Dutch steakhouse, it was not long until the first rooms made the building the Die Port van Cleve hotel. The name Die Port van Cleve comes from a memorial stone with the inscription 'Die Port van Cleve' which was found during the takeover by the Hulscher brothers. Some unchanged features include the unique frontage, which has listed building status, and also the unique interior of De Blauwe Parade bar-bodega. The Delft blue tiles in the Bodega date back to 1887. Hotel 'Die Port van Cleve' now consists of 122 comfortable rooms, Brasserie 'De Poort, known for the traditional Dutch as well as international dishes, Bar-Bodega 'De Blauwe Parade' and several multi-functional meeting rooms for 2 up to 50 persons. Even nowadays the combination of history, hospitality and personal service lives on in 'Die Port van Cleve' and guarantees you an enjoyable stay in a bustling Amsterdam. The location of the hotel and its history makes it popular with leisure travelers, but it's also appreciated by business travelers for its warm, personalized service and modern comforts. NOTE: There's a 5 % city/tourist tax per room per night which needs to be paid upon checkout.

Good hotel in Amsterdam center

  • Rick in NYC
  • 23 Mar 2012
This hotel has the perfect location in the center of Amsterdam, close to all the important attractions. Close by also are good restaurants and good shopping. The buffet breakfast in the morning was excellent. There can be some noise heard during the night from outside, my room was in the back of the hotel near a bar. However, I would stay at this hotel again.

Shopping, coffee shops, red light district all within 5 minutes of walking. The rooms are a bit small, but you're not going to spend much time there anyway. I would definitely stay here again.

Fond of Radisson Blu Downtown Amsterdam...

  • Amsterdam Newbie
  • 3 Oct 2011
Positive reviews of the Radisson Blu Amsterdam prompted us to make our reservations with them. This was one of the best decisions made for this trip and the fact that we were given a free room upgrade made it even more so. The location close to just about all downtown Amsterdam's attractions but far enough to not hear any late night partying; I grew up in a walking city anyway so I was instantly accustomed to pedi-transportation. The rooms were bright, sparkling clean, contemporary and crisply styled. The view outside our windows were not great but we spent every day of our five-day stay outside anyway. The amenities here are above ordinary. We loved the radiant-heated bathroom floors in the cool mornings. After a full day of walking and in need of relaxation, we frequented the sauna inside the in-house gym. The staff made certain that experience there was welcoming and pleasant. The only inconvenience, and a very minor one at that, was that our rooms was in a wing across the street and getting to it required us to enter the main hotel lobby, go down a level, follow the walkway under the street then take the elevator to our floor. By the way there is another Raddison Blu hotel near Amsterdam's Schiphol airport. Not realizing that, we were initially taken to the wrong Raddison Blu...just a tip. Highly recommended.

Due to its favourable location in the middle of the centre of Amsterdam, the hotel is easily reached by car (15minutes from Schiphol Airport) as well as by public transport (20 minutes from Schiphol Airport). Visiting the major tourist attractions is made very practical by the ideal location of Hotel CC. The shopping streets and numerous restaurants and cafés are in the near vicinity of Hotel CC, as well as the entertainment area with its many bars and clubs, which are all on walking distance. Hotel CC is established in 3 connecting historical monumental buildings, which have been entirely renovated, while all attempts have been made to keep the monumental values intact and parts have visibly been retouched. The hotel and her rooms have been build in and around the monumental structure of the building and embraced it in the character of the hotel, so that none of the rooms are identical and each room has its own character.

Good Location, a bit pricey for what you get.

  • Stroopwafel757
  • 3 May 2012
Room was small, but that seems to be normal for europe, double was fine for me, but it could be tight for two. Halls were like a maze to find the room. It was more expensive when compared to other options, but not by much(except for the weekend), and it was a nice, safe, quiet room. Friday and Saturday rates jumped up to double from the rest of week rates were so be aware when pricing a trip. City Tax was about 30% more than was expected as listed on online receipt. Wifi is not free, but 5 euro per day, and is something you have to log into again and again if left idle for more than 15 minutes and only one device at a time. Central Train Station is super close. Redlight is literally a block away if that's your thing, and coffeeshops, bars, and restaurants are all up and down Warmoesstraat so it is a popular spot.

In the central city!

  • Terry 'n Bob
  • 2 May 2012
This was a very nice hotel; pretty basic amenities but very helpful front desk staff, clean and spacious bath and bedroom. Located just a few blocks from the Anne Frank House, Rembrandt's home, lots of good restaurants in varying price ranges. The hotel has a continental breakfast for 15 Euros per person, and it was good. It may seem expensive, but it saves having to walk around to find breakfast in another restaurant, which will probably be just as expensive, unless you just want coffee and a pastry. (This has eggs, hot and cold meats, fruit, pastries, cheese, breads and coffee and tea, juice) We happened to be there on April 30, the Queen's birthday--a national holiday. Lots of people come to Amsterdam for this, and it's a crowded, all-day party--we were right in the thick of it at this hotel, but since our room was located in the inner part of the building (it's like an "O" shape), the noise level was fine that evening!

This hotel was the perfect place to stay. We walked everywhere and never once took a taxi or tram. The room was clean and the front desk was very helpful. While the staff was very friendly, if you stay here make sure to look around for signage on specific country information. We neglected to see the sign about the time change and almost didnt wake up in time the next morning for our flight. Overall great value and I would stay there again.

Great Value, Great Location

  • Scrubbie
  • 25 Feb 2012
Before I begin, let me say that I am a single traveler who prefers three star budget hotels, so note that my review is based on this criterion. That said, here are the reasons I give this hotel a 4 star (in no particular order) …. Location - The hotel is only 1 block from Amsterdam Central Station, so you can take the train from AMS airport to Amsterdam Central Station, which is only four euros and only takes 20 minutes and then walk 1 block to the hotel. This makes returning to the airport nice too, a real money saver over a taxi. Also, the Hotel is located in the heart of Amsterdam, so short walk to most stuff …. Staff – The staff was amazing. Easy to understand (I only speak English) and very helpful. They gave me a city map and took time to point out where everything is. They gave me an extra pillow on request and my wake-up call was on-schedule … Room Quality – As stated earlier, I would rather pay less for my hotel and bring my own shampoo, so I usually go for three star hotels, but this hotel exceeded my expectations. The bed was small but surprising comfortable, the sheets were high quality, included a duvet. The room was very small, but I don’t spend a lot of time in the room, so I’m ok with a small room. (Your mileage may vary). The room included a free safe, free WiFi (which worked in the room), flat screen TV, shelf/drawers, quality A/C, a tiny bathroom, built-in hair blower and a shower with hot water that stayed hot and awesome water pressure! I was on the 4th floor. My room did not have a view, but a nice surprise is that my window opened, so I could air out the room! That was HUGE, as I love the smell of fresh air. I would recommend to anyone looking for these traits in a hotel. Happy travels.

The hotel location is great! The hotel is 1 block away from the Amsterdam Central Station. There is a train at the Amsterdam Airport you can pickup and in 20 mins be at the Amsterdam Central Station, then this hotel is only a one block quick, easy walk. That makes returning to the airport nice too. Additionally, you are in the heart of Amsterdam, so you’re close to most stuff. The staff at the hotel was amazing … very friendly, easy to understand and willing to help. Before I discuss the room, please note that I am a single traveler who doesn’t want to pay a lot of money on a 4-star hotel. I’d rather save the money and bring my own shampoo! I am rating the room for another single traveler with similar needs. So, that said, the room exceeded my expectations. Albeit the room was very small (which I am fine with), it had what I really want in a room, which is … a free safe, a flat screen TV, a private bathroom in the room with a shower where the water stays hot and has strong water pressure, powerful A/C, comfortable bed with duvet cover and expensive sheets, extra pillow on request and free WiFi. That’s what I look for in a hotel and it had it all. The room had a hair blower and shelf/drawers too, for those who care. A nice surprise was that the window in my room opened, so I could air the room out. That was stupendous, as I love the smell of fresh air!!! Net-Net, if you compare what I paid for the hotel and the value I received, for a single traveler like me, I would totally recommend.

We choose this hotel because of the location to the train station and for that it was perfect. The staff could have not been any better or more helpful. The breakfast in the garden room had enough variety but the hot food was barely warm. Breakfast did seem to be a bit pricey

weekend of craziness

  • null
  • 25 Aug 2011
where to start , well the location was absolutely perfect for what i went to amsterdam for which pretty much was a weekend of coffeshop touring , so for anyone reading this review who has the same idea for a trip this road that the hotel is on has 5 coffeshops along it not to mention dampkring outside your window and popeye over the road which opens at 7am and serves breakfast and some very nice super silver haze mmmm . The hotel on arrival was pretty much as the picture was the reception looked very nice and had an amazing painting on the wall by the leather sofas , the staff was very polite and helpful ,the stairs of the hotel are very steep and the higher you get the narrower they get ,there is four floors in total and no lift I REPEAT NO LIFT be prepared to climb the stairs : ) On every floor they have a seperate showeroom and toilet with free soap and free shower gel to use . The hotel room i stayed in was a single , it had a little sink in the corner a little wardrobe and my room had a small tv but my friends was much larger in his room , my room smelt like a toilet the bed sheet had a couple of cigarette burns in it and the mattress was torn on one side the mattress dipped in the middle and the carpet had a few stains and to top that off the couple that was in the room adjacent kept on smashing there door onto mine fek knows why maybe its an italian thing lol overall my stay was what you would expect for a 1 star hotel so dont expect nothing fancy you will not get that here ,the key to this hotel is the location so yes it is value for money regardless of my negative points of the room .ps if your booking says bed and breakfast the breakfast is not free you have to pay please note all of these websites that state it are wrong .

Very good location and excellent value

Location is great - at intersection of two canals one block from main street and three blocks from Centraal Station. Room was extremely clean, bed was great, white, clean, lights and amenities very convenient. Staff was very frendly and helpful, front desk guy show me where the tea/coffee machine was, and where the breakfast was served , and it was done in 5 seconds. The whole experience was very good. Will try to stay there again (probably next week). Price was very good for Amsterdam also - like 70 euros.

Chic Basic and Remodeling

  • MM
  • 27 Jun 2011
Chic and Basic is the name and the decor and hotel match that name well. The room was an odd shape but the layout wasn't a problem. The room and bathroom were clean and tidy. The bread and coffee in the lobby was great. My sister and I enjoyed the personal touches. Probably the best part of this hotel is the location, far enough away from the noise yet an easy walk to it. My only problem with the hotel was the remodeling, and not so much the remodeling as the start time of the workers (7:30a). In my opinion it would have been nice to have the rooms next door to the work maybe not in use, or ask the work to start at 9am. But all-in-all I would return and recommend it to my friends (but I'll ask about remodeling noise for sure).
