Overall I wasn't disappointed at all. My first room I was a little unhappy due to my height and this particular room, though it was very quaint and comfortable it was tough, but after voicing my minor complaint they switched up my room and I actually ended up with an upgrade right away. The AM breakfast is very tasty and has a good variety of foods to appease most palettes, though I would like to add that it is charged to your room, though I don't think the pricing is posted or made clear unless asked, just fair warning, but I felt it was of value. The club was also entertaining, just make sure to talk to the hosts during the day to get on the list.
Buy a tram pass from the host and don't forget to tap on and off the tram ;-)

I attended a trade show at the RAI Center. Very convenient. Room was actually OK. The rest of the hotel and neighborhod was a bit run down. But for the price, it was what I expected.
Add $15 (10 Euro) a day to the price of the room if you want wifi!

The hotel was in an excellent location. Just a few minutes walk from the Amsterdam Central Station, which you will need to get around Amsterdam. The single bed room is nice and modern. A tad bit small but very comfortable. The only issue I had with the hotel was the fact that they didn't have a real computer lab. They only had 2 computers for public use and they charged for internet service.

Just back from staying at the Swissotel, Amsterdam and couldn't have chosen a better hotel. It is right next to Dam Square and just 5 minutes walk from Central Station. The staff were very welcoming and the hot towel on arrival was refreshing. Would definitely recommend it.

Wir waren 3 Nächte da, das Hotel ist einfach bezaubernd. Man hat alles, was man braucht - Ob Zimmerservice, eine Bar, Klimaanalage.. Einfach alles. Die S-Bahn ist sehr nahe, das Zentrum ist sofort erreichbar. Das Personal war sehr nett, auch das Essen im Restaurant war sehr gut. Der Hafen und die Umgebung fanden wir sehr schön, man konnte einfach ans Wasser sitzen und in die Ferne schauen. Das Frühstück war sehr gut, man hatte eigentlich alles. Wenn wir nächstes Mal wieder nach Amsterdam gehen, werden wir dieses Hotel bestimmt wieder besuchen!

Staff was very friendly. The shuttle service to amsterdam central station was very frequent and useful although the hotel was just a trams stop away. Rooms were neat and tidy.

This hotel is convenient to everything - the canal boats, coffeehouses, restaurants, shops, etc. Very accommodating staff. We did not eat at the hotel except for room service one morning, which was very good but a bit pricey. We did like the pillow service; guests have a choice of pillow types ranging from firm to soft. You choose the ones you want and they bring them to your room.

Hotel was very modern. Not your typical hotel in Amsterdam. Location is great for the major sites. staff not able to answer simple questions, like restaurants that are good in the area. Everyone was very receptive and attentive.

although we were only here for one night , we were extremely happy being here . Our room was large , clean and the beds exceptionally comfortable .Staff were wonderful , very helpful . The location is very good right next to the tram stop and only 10 minute ride to town centre . Lovely hotel , nice restuarants right next door . Would highly recommend it and we would gladly stay there again .

Hotel Looked great but i think thats about it
Look out for extras
the there was no hot water
Staff have a couldnt care less aproach to you and service is slow for it as if the staff are doing you a favour to serve you.
I asked to speak to the manager about the hot water and was fobbed off with i will email you about some compensation and new never contacted.

The hotel and staff were 4 star, but other issues dropped my ranking to 2 stars. There was supposed to be wireless internet in the room, but the signal was so weak it kept dropping me, several times at just the wrong time so I couldn't work properly. The hotel staff tried to say the problem was with my computer, which worked fine elsewhere before and aftert this trip. The description says the hotel is approximately 2 miles from the airport, but the taxi cost 34 euros each way, so it's 2 miles as the bird flies. The location wasn't convenient. The quality of the room and amenities were excellent, but be warned about the loacation and internet.

Wonderful customer service and perfect location

We arrived at the hotel at 0900 after a two week river cruise. Even though check in time wasn't until 2pm they had rooms ready for us. We stayed in a King deluxe and it was large and clean. There was even a full size bathtub. The tub was slick with no vinyl mat to place in it but we used a bath towel on the bottom of the tub and that took care of that. The room was warm and the window was locked but a call to the desk had someone up right away to unlock it. The bar is a great place to wind down for a drink or a quick bite. Every one we came in contact with from the maid to the front desk were helpful and friendly. The location is perfect being just steps from Dom Square and Magna Plaza shopping area. We walked to most locations and took the bus right outside the front door to the farther museums. We will definitely stay there again should we return to Amsterdam.

Spent a pre Christmas weekend here with my wife. Great location; 7-10 minute walk from the train station and even closer to Dam Square. Tram stop in front of hotel. Clean rooms and friendly staff. Would stay here again.

Very good value for money. Shuttle service efficient and easy to locate. Staff friendly and helpful. Room spacious and comfortable but no extras like tea making equipment - always a priority for Brits !! TV and internet connection are an extra as is breakfast but worth the money as an excellent buffet compensates for aircraft food later in the day !!!!! Will definately use this hotel again

Hotel très adapté pour un court séjour à Amsterdam, l'acces au centre est très simple grace à des navettes gratuites jusqu'à l'aeroport, puis les trains toutes les 15 mn environ jusqu'au centre.
Seul bémol, l'accès aux chambres: pour une raison étrange il faut monter dans les étages pour redescendre au RDC afin d'atteindre les chambres 500, mieux vaut ne pas avoir oublié son téléphone dans sa chambre...

Description
In the heart of Amsterdam, you'll find the monumental building of Hotel 'Die Port van Cleve'. A hotel that combines history and hospitality with style and modern comfort. Heineken opened his first Heineken brewery in the building. Due to the city council filling in the canal in front of the building in the name of modernisation, he moved to the present location on the Stadhouderskade. The Hulscher brothers continued the business and on 5 September 1870 a unique beer house, called Die Port van Cleve, opened its doors. It did not take long for it to evolve from a beer house into a restaurant with the 'De Poort' brasserie serving typical Dutch dishes and what were to become the famous numbered steaks. These steaks have been served since 1870 and in 1997 the magic number of 6,000,000 numbered and certificated steaks was reached. Evolving from a beer house to a Dutch steakhouse, it was not long until the first rooms made the building the Die Port van Cleve hotel. The name Die Port van Cleve comes from a memorial stone with the inscription 'Die Port van Cleve' which was found during the takeover by the Hulscher brothers. Some unchanged features include the unique frontage, which has listed building status, and also the unique interior of De Blauwe Parade bar-bodega. The Delft blue tiles in the Bodega date back to 1887. Hotel 'Die Port van Cleve' now consists of 121 comfortable rooms, Brasserie 'De Poort, known for the traditional Dutch as well as international dishes, Bar-Bodega 'De Blauwe Parade' and several multi-functional meeting rooms for 2 up to 50 persons. Even nowadays the combination of history, hospitality and personal service lives on in 'Die Port van Cleve' and guarantees you an enjoyable stay in a bustling Amsterdam. The location of the hotel and its history makes it popular with leisure travelers, but it's also appreciated by business travelers for its warm, personalized service and modern comforts. I travlled to Amsterdam in January and have visited the city on many occasions. This hotel was ideally located in the city centre and I was given a lovely first floor room overlooking Nieuwezijds Vorburgwal. The staff were very pleasant and the amenities were top class. Would stay again.

Stayed for two nights in January 2012 (single guy).
Overall I had a good experience. Everything was clean and the staff was very nice. Small room, but typical for a European hotel. Nothing fancy - but served my purposes. Had two single beds pushed together.
The best thing about the hotel was its location - within walking distance of Central Amsterdam and Centraal train station. There is a tram station right in front of the hotel.
I didn't try the restaurant.
The only complaint I had was that the room smelled "mildewy" my first night. I left the window open when I went out the next morning and when I returned the smell was gone.
They are in the process of updating the AC in the rooms. Might be worth checking on before reserving if you are coming in the summer.

Off to a bad start!

The hotel is in a central location close to the train station and is easy to find. Unfortunately, when we checked in and were shown to our room we were extremely disapointed, it was small, dark and would not have been comfortable to spend 3 nights in. The bed filled the width of the room with about 9 inches to spare at the end! This was not the room we were expecting and it was most certainly not the room we saw on the website! We complaind to reception and they initially wanted to charge us another 20 euros per night to move to a room of the type on their website. This soon dropped to 10 euros per night which we were still not happy with, but agreed to pay, once in the new room everything went well. All the staff at the hotel are extremely friendly and helpful.

This hotel was such a treat! Great location, and alot of character. Great staff and very cool ambience. I never used any of the restaurants in the hotel, but as always, they seemed abit pricier than some of the other local options closeby. I would return here without a question, and it is definitely bettter than the average hotel chain.

Other than the curtains having a mind of their own, the small size of the rooms, and the mediocre spa, our stay at the Amrath was AMAZING. The location could not have been better (a 5 minute walk from the red light district) and the staff and room service were great. The entire set up is very unique with surprises lurking around every corner. The wellness center is a must see. This is certainly a high-class hotel catered to a younger, thriving crowd.

The hotel is much better than most without the hefty price tag. Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful and the only thing I can fault was the uncomfortable pillows - though they even have a pillow service to sort that out if need be!

The hotel was really comfortable, the beds are big and everything's modern and clean. The huge TV, phone (with my last name on it), side bar, chairs, fridge...it was everything we needed. We didn't event want to go outside and visit the city, we much rather have stayed at the hotel chilling and resting. Excellent option in terms of value. Less than 10 minutes away from the city center by train, it's definitely a good option. Recomended 100%.

The hotel is nice and modern. The staff is very friendly and has the knowledge to any question. The location is kind of good becuase you need to get the metro and after 4 stops you will get to the center of amsterdam. All in all great value.

Second time at this hotel. Love the experience, a little long walk to everything but beautiful view. Feel safe in the neighborhood, especially with police station a block away.

Das Zimmer war für 2 Personen genau richtig, etwas unangenehm war die Tatsache, dass es kein Doppelbett gab sondern zwei zusammengeschobene Einzelbetten ansonsten war die Lage perfekt und im Großem und Ganzen ein wunderbarer Aufenthalt ich würde wieder in diesem Hotel einchecken!

Chambre propre et de très bon goût. Les lits sont confortables et on y dort vraiment très bien! Bien placé, et desservi pas le tram. Petit déjeuner copieux seul bémol le premier jours à 10€ et les autres jours à 15€ par personnes. Je vous conseille vraiment cet hôtel !

This was a good hotel in a convenient location. We were able to walk there from the train station. Our room was ready for a morning check in which was appreciated after an overnight flight. There were plenty of restaurants, bars and shopping nearby. The beds were the most comfortable we have ever slept on. The room was clean and large enough. The front desk was helpful. The only downside was the trash left on the street outside due to the club a few doors down. Overall we were very satisfied with our stay and would definitely stay here again.

New Years Eve is not to be missed in Amsterdam. Fireworks everywhere! Just saying that doesnt give the amount of fireworks launched justice.
In terms of the hotel, the Golden Tulip is tops. Ive stayed here a few times now: the location is great and the rooms and staff are top notch. Bed are quite comfy too!

Best hotel in Amsterdam. However, people need to know to take a taxi directly to the hotel from the airport, don't use the train and trolley. Once checked in its easy to move about via day passes purchased on the tram.

superb hotel..great location right on canals and easy walk to Van Gough museum and other attraction. Staff here were fantastic, this is a 5 star hotel at 4 star cost. restaurant excellent and very reasonable, we didnt want to leave.. would highly recommend and we will certainly stay again. this is one of the nicest hotels you will find anywhere and I spend

It is close to the main train station, overall the quality of the hotel is good. Free WiFi in lobby while most of the hotels charge a fee. I had a small issue with the badroom door, but besides that I would recommend this hotel.

Gute Lage für Konzertbesucher! Zimmer klein, etwas eng für zwei, aber in Ordnung. Problem: Kein Lichtschalter in Bad/toilette wenn man den anderen nicht im Schlaf stören wollte, musste man die Toilette im Dunkeln benutzen. Der Duschring war schwer zu bedienen - ein Kraftakt, der beim ersten Mal, als sich der Ring endlich bewegte, zu einer kleinen Überschwemmung führte.
Das Personal war sehr freundlich. Sauberkeit ließ nichts zu wüpnschen übrig. Der tägliche unerbetene Handtuchwechsel war unnötig.
