Small room, great location

Very smooth experience staying in this hotel. It's a short walk from the Amsterdam Central station, which was great to get settled in quickly after arduous travel. The room was small and the shower was not fully enclosed, which led to some splashing on the sink area. Nevertheless, the water pressure in the shower was good and the beds were extremely comfortable. Great for recovering from a full day of walking, and all the great sites of Amsterdam were easily reachable from this location. Breakfast was included during our stay which was simple meats, rolls, toast, fruits, coffee, tea, and juice, which was definitely great for starting the day right.

Time-saving tip: Long walk from hotel

We considered taking the canal bus tour as a hop on hop off way to get around Amsterdam, but the high cost for the ticket and timing between arrivals of the boat were not in our favor. We opted to walk instead and although longer it was good exercise and we had ample time to hit all the sites we wanted to visit on our list.

Quick stop

I spent two nights in the Avenue and it was a good value for the price. The location was awesome with perfect walk distances to the train, bars, shopping and museums. The staff varied from extremely friendly to extremely smug. I would definitely stay there again.

Hotel Avenue July 6th & 7th 2012

Good experience. Great Location (really within walking distance of all of the thinks I wanted to see, i.e., Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, Dam Square, Canel walks, Central train station, etc.). Upgraded to double for free. Wonderful Breakfast Buffet. My room was on the first floor and it (first floor) smelled a little musty when in the hallway. Room however was fine. Everyone on staff was very helpful and courteous.

Family Review

Rooms two small. Bathrooms' showers without curtains. Water spilled all over the bathroom floor. Matresses too old. If We return to Amsterdam, definitely look for another hotel.

not fancy but it got the job done

The room was small but clean. The bathroom was new and well maintained. The staff was very helpful. There was an internet problem in the area when we were there and the staff allowed me to use the hotel phone to call home and let everyone know we arrived safely. It doesn't get any better for location . All said, it was just what we needed.

Good value city hotel for families with older children

Chose this hotel for value and location and was very pleased with choice. Only 5 mins walk from Centraal station. You can leave your luggage in the luggage store both prior to check in time and after check out. The reception staff are very friendly, a rare breed these days! We had a quad room for two adults and two teenagers. Perfect, girls had single beds on a mezzanine floor. The staircase to the mezzanine was very steep and for that reason I wouldnt recommend this room as a family room for young children. Please check that hotel has family rooms on one level if taking children under 8 or any sleepwalkers! Breakfast is included and is great. Dutch pancakes included which were scrummy. There is a drinks vending machine in the lobby, tea is only 50 cents. There is also free use of a PC and wifi through out hotel. I would stay here again on a city break without hesitation, although please note it is 3 star and if you are looking for a little more luxury you may want to pay more and stay in a 4 star.

Dining tip: Long walk from hotel

Bazaar restaurant on Albert Cyp street is fantastic and good value. Soup and bread for lunch only 4.5 euros! Fussy teenagers much preferred it to Dutch food restaurants.
