lovely to be
Excellent Central Location
This was my first visit to Amsterdam and it was a lovely experience. As a single female traveler from UK I did not experience any problems, I wasn't bothered or pestered by anyone and it was a very easy and relaxing place to be for a city- I loved it. De Paris Hotel was a good find, and I booked it on-line a few days before leaving home, so I got a much lower price. It was better than I was expecting for the rate I paid. It was a safe place to be, in a nice central area, near everything so no need to use trams I could walk to the main places and walk back after. The room was nice, nice big pillows, bed was not too hard, and plenty of hot water. TV in room if you wanted to watch one, alarm clock and land line telephone in room. Toiletries were provided in room soap, shower gel, and shampoo A kettle in the room would of been a nice touch, for morning coffee in bed ( I brought mine anyway from England!) also a rubber non-slip shower mat for the inside the bath (I used a wet towel to stand on to shower). The staff were polite, helpful, welcoming and friendly, and they helped to make my stay a good one. I was allowed to check-in early as the room was free, and they kindly held my luggage after I checked out until I left earlier in the day after sightseeing. They then called me a taxi to take me to the bus station(EUR 16). A Very good service. Nice bar over the road, opens 4pm until late, does good food (until 8.30pm) Beer is pricy in Amsterdam, expect to pay EUR 4.50 upwards (depending on location) if you drink a pint. There is a coffee shop with internet cafe across the road, and the main square is 2 mins walk away for main shopping area and tram stop etc. I would recommend to a friend, and I hope to return very soon.

Wonderful place to stay. Very convenient to all we wanted to see and do (canals, museums, restaurants, plazas). Great front desk staff: Knowledgeable, friendly, helpful. Also a super breakfast included: meat, cheese, bread, eggs, cereal, juices, granola, peanut butter, jelly, etc.

Good location
This hotel was located in a convenient location with a lot going on around. But the room was very box-like and small.

Cozy hotel, good value
I've been to Amsterdam several times and this was the best hotel I've stayed at so far. A little noisy because the building is old but it wasn't a problem for us. Great central location to restaurants, coffee shops, trams and buses. Beds were comfy and pillows were plump!

Are you kidding me?
The hotel I stayed at the previous two nights was booked, so I moved begrudgingly to this one. It was a bad mistake. The room wasn't ready when I got there at the appointed check out time, and they gave me the worst room in the place, right above the entrance, next to the stairs, and with no AC, I had to keep my window open (no screen, lots of bugs) which was right next to the tram and a loud bar. The front desk was cheerful, but not very accommodating. Its location was pretty nice, relatively central, but it was more expensive then my previous hotel which was 10 times nicer. This is a good location for travelers that don't care about comfort.

A good value.
For starters, I traveled to Amsterdam unplanned because it was a spur of the moment thing so I reserved this hotel very quickly and while a few bad reviews made me think twice about it, I didn't paid any attention to it and it paid off. First of all, this is not a fancy hotel nor a new or recently remoleded one, this hotel is just perfect for a solo traveler or a couple who isn't very picky, for me as a solo traveler, I'm not to fond of staying at hostels but don't have a lot of money for a pricey one but Hotel de Paris fits just perfectly. The prices is in the range of a Motel 6 and has every basic thing: a bed, closet, free safebox, bathroom, hot shower, television, hair dryer and an elevator. Now, Amsterdam is a very old city and therefore the hotel is quite old and musty but it has its charm, it is quite conviently located a kilometer away from the heart of the city and a few more meters from central station. If you are carrying a backpack, it would take about fifteen minutes to walk from central station to the hotel, and if you're carrying more stuff and/or don't want to walk, just take the 172 bus from central station and it is a brisk ten minute drive to Raampein stop were it is in front of the hotel. The trip will cost €2. I recommend the "I amsterdam" pass for three days, with it you can take the city's tram and bus services, and can get into the most important museums in town. As for me, the real treat was to rent a bike, which costs between €10 to €15 per day, as just rode arount Amsterdam, it is amazing how many people use this transportation method, I wish I lived in a city like it but I digress. Some of the rooms have a very distinct smell of old so for the faint of heart I recommend to use a room deodorant that can be easily bought in a store or better yet bring one from the US, obviously much cheaper, and just plug it in the electrical outlet just don't forget to buy your American-European converter because it will cost you double in Holland. Buy one from eBay, they're so cheap it's ridiculous and they work nicely. One of the best things is the hotel staff, they're very kind and welcoming, it just feels like a bed and breakfast, and speaking of breakfast, it is included in the hotel fee as a contentinental but not like in the US were it is just bread, butter and old coffee, at Hotel de Paris it is a real treat with quite a charming room. I had such a good breakfast that I looked forward to it every morning. The drawbacks is that it is a bit noisy because of the streets and the other rooms so, if you can, request a room from the back, those are less noisy, and watch out for the stairsa because they're seemed to be made for children, I'm 5' 11" and almost loose my footing a couple of times. Overall, I recommend this hotel for all travelers who just want a nice, private and centric room at good price. I will defintely will reserve again in this hotel next time I visit Amsterdam.

Perfect little room in Amsterdam
we loved our stay at hotel de Paris in Amsterdam. The hotel has a boutique feel with friendly staff and a wonderful location. The room is small but nice and, really, who is going to be hanging out in their room all day?? Only downside is that you have to pay for Internet which seems ridiculous in 2011.
