Grand!
The Grand Hotel Amrath was incredible. We traveled during June and it was hot outside and unfortunately the Hotel doesnt have A/C. The window in our room did not open and was hot at times in the room. Our room was amazing with very nice amenities, completely renovated bathrooms with Marble tile throughout. The hotel staff are very accomadating and friendly. The concierage has tickets to museums in the area so you dont have to wait in lines. The hotel has new bikes and mopeds for rent at reasonable prices. We rented bikes for three days and they allowed us to enjoy the city and get around easily. The hotel has a free mini bar and they restock it daily !!! It is a nice treat since in the city a coke or water can cost 2-4 euro. The hotel has a spa area with steam room, saunas, jacuzzi, and swimming pool. It was great to relax at the end of the day and enjoy the spa. The hotel is very conveinent to Central Station, 5-10 minute walk. We found a quaint pancake restaurant located about 10 minutes bike ride away called the "The Pancake Bakery" located on a canal and we ate the best pancakes on a canal watching boats stroll by. WOW The Anne Frank House is located nearby. We didn't eat at the hotel, the menu looks really good and they have room service available but we wanted to eat at local spots. The wireless internet access was free and we never had any problems getting connected.

We purchased the eyewitness guide to amsterdam and found it to be very helpful. Buy your tickets for the Anne Frank House online or at the concierage at your hotel so you can skip the long line there. There were over 100 people in line and we went to a secret entrance and passed all people in line.

Excellent hotel
The staff at this hotel is terrific, and the rooms are large, well-appointed and comfortable. The building is so beautiful and is an architectural jewel. My only reservations about the place are its location - which is great if you need to be near Centraal Station or the Muziekgebouw aan t'IJ, but is far enough away from other Amsterdam attractions to be inconvenient - and the 25 Euro breakfast each day. Otherwise, it is a wonderful place. Also, although the spa looked beautiful, the fitness center is not particularly good. Very basic equipment.

Wonderful!
We had a pretty rough day getting to Amsterdam, but forgot about it all as soon as we checked in. The staff was so incredibly friendly, helpful and thorough. I have not had a better experience with hotel staff than this. The fitness center and spa are lovely, clean and relaxing. We both had exceptional massages for a very reasonable price.

Get a better map than the hotel has to offer, it is missing a lot of details that will keep you on the right track.

great location and the staff was even be
overall I would rate our stay a 9 out of 10. The hotal could make the stay a little eaiser if there food prices were more competitive. Only had one meal and realized we could get the same food on the streets for less than half the price. But maybe thats how they off set the free mini bar, whick is free by the way as long as you follow the rules. Overall don't think it could have been much better.

Good Location
1. Had 3 reservations for me, instead of just 1 therefore delay check-in.2. charged me city taxes after trip fully paid to [...]3. Had to call daily to separate beds into twins instead of one queen.4. Had to call daily to get fresh face towels.5. Porter and concierge were excellent!6. Upon arrival, was told that there would be no water from 11 am until 4 pm for three days, due to construction.7. Buffet prices extremely high.8. Jacuzzi water not hot, just warm9. Valet parking extremely high, 40 euros daily10.

We love the Amrath
We stayed here once before and really like the location - so many shops and restaurants just a short walk away. Interesting place and - of course - the free mini-bar.

Best Hotel I've Ever Stayed
My boyfriend and I took the train in to Amsterdam from Paris and did a late check-in on Sunday night (March 13, 2010). The hotel is slightly hidden from view from Amsterdam Central Station, so if you're leaving the station, you want to head left out of the station. When we arrived, the reception host was so lovely and kind and she surprised us with a room upgrade! We were upgraded from a "Superior Deluxe Room - City View" to a "Four Poster Room - City View" with a huge bed, a huge bathroom, two leather couches, and an amazing view of the canal. The gentleman who showed us around the hotel was very professional and gave us a great tour of the hotel and a great tour of our room…yes, it was that big (try getting it! Room 300). The bathroom was amazing. The standing shower was basically the size of a walk-in closet and had 4 shower heads. Separate from the shower was a large bathtub with fizzy bubble bath soap provided. The two sinks were so modern-looking and we were provided with nice soaps and lotions. The FREE mini bar was stocked with sodas, orange juice, water, wine, hard liquor, and chocolate. There was a Nespresso machine that made gourmet espresso drinks comparable to a fancy cafe. (I've never heard of a Nespresso in the US and I was so impressed with this machine that I may buy one this weekend!) The four post bed was so comfortable and was piled on with large, fluffy pillows. The wellness center was by far the BEST wellness center I've ever been to at a hotel. The heated pool was a decent size and the jacuzzi seated four. There were three separate saunas and showers to rinse. The actual gym had a few basic machines, but you do so much walking in Amsterdam that you don't need to do any cardio when you go to visit the city! Our check out was fast and easy and they held our luggage while my boyfriend and I wandered around Amsterdam during the afternoon. The hotel is really close to the Red Light District but far enough from it to where there is really no rowdy noise. It's also conveniently located a couple blocks away from Amsterdam Central and the main tram stop. Overall, I have to say that the Grand Amrath is the best hotel I've ever stayed in and I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

Overall so so...
Great location. Close to the central area where everything is walking distance. Problem is being under staffed. When you call for service, nothing gets done it time. My laudry was sitting at the hotel even though I called several times for the pick up and leaving it out side as instructed. I had to personally track it down, resulting in getting it done in 2 days. Other than that, the staff were very friendly and nice.

Taxis are very expensive in Amsterdam. Need to figure out how the Tram and the bus works. This should save you a lot of money.
