Good budget hotel for short stays

I found the room very clean and comfortable for a short stay of two days. It is quite a distance from central station but very easy to get to by taking tram no2. I took a folding bike with me via eurolines to amstel station and it takes less than 30 mins to the city centre and probably the best way to go or just hire a bike. I did go in January in the snow so a quiet time of year but still busy at the hotel due to the price I expect. So a good option for a short stay if you dont want to be right in city. I did mark it down a bit as the staff were not the most helpful but maybe they had a lot on I suppose

Bad experience

The good: The room was very large, nice furniture and LCD TV, modern bath room and shower. The bad: Arrived 38min.early, while on the phone, reception dismissed me by informing me that checkin was not until 14:00. No coffee maker, no safe, no hairdrier, no towel bar or hook in the bathroom, towel had to be put in the sink or on the floor. All lights in the room were very dim, in fact, in the bathroom there is not enough light to even shave as the lightbulb is behind you over the entrance. Water in bath tub drains very very slowly, have to wash feet in a very small sink. Only stayed one night!

Great hotel for great price

Hotel is good deal, if you are trying to stay el chepo. We stayed for 7 nights and the room was basic with two beds and the bathroom had a stand in shower (not the best water pressure) and was decent size. The room had no amenities besides tv....(no fridge, coffee pot, etc). Hotel grounds are very cute and there is an adorable garden and sitting areas outside. They serve food 24 hours and have a great breakfast deal, which I recommend getting. We would get fruit from the local market (oranges, bananas, etc) then buy the breakfast meal (hard boiled egg, croissant, bread, cheese, ham, orange juice) and pancakes and had a feast for two! They also have a restaurant/bar in the basement where we ate dinner one night and I was surprised how cute it was. The hotel had a lot of charm. Also the rooms were enclosed in a green house structure which I felt was an added bonus and we would eat outside in the greenhouse on the wood tables. The staff was also really friendly and were helpful with ordering shelties and cabs to the airport and central station. The hotel is also only a few blocks from Tram 2 so everything was easy to get to. There was free wifi in the hotel rooms, but no phone service. I was able to receive calls from friends who had my hotel info. There wasn't a lot of storage in the rooms, but we were able to hang up a lot of clothes and things worked out. Overall it was a quality stay for the price. It wasn't perfect, but we weren't in our rooms enough to care. We were also able to store our baggage in a room until check in at 2p CET. I also recommend you contact the hotel about arranging pick up from the airport. We paid 50 euro the first time when we took a cab from the air port and only 28 euro when we took a cab from the airport to shuttle.

HEM HOTEL AMSTERDAM

Overall experience was good. Nothing special, nothing bad. Room was comfortable and clean. I saw many bad reviews on this hotel after booking and was a bit concerned. Everything turned out good. Good value except the dining prices within hotel are a bit expensive. The needed tram ride to city center is only about 15 minutes. The walk to tram station from hotel is only about 5 minutes. For the hotel price, I would stay here again.

room for improvement

the hotel has a nice little eatery in the lobby. The staff was helpful. The room size was probably average for Amsterdam. The bathroom is a toilet shower combo and we found a few bugs in the room but for the price it was decent. The #2 tram is 3 blocks away and makes a quick trip all the way to Centraal Station. A night bus runs you back when the tram stops at midnight or so. All in all the price was great but next time I'll pay a bit more and stay downtown since we didn't spend much time at the hotel.

Traveling on a budget

The hotel is not in the center of the city but it is an only about 2 blocks from the tram that takes you downtown. The hotel was nothing fancy but it seemed clean and safe and the staff was friendly. I would reccomend it to people traveling on a budget.

Cheap but...

The room is cheap but it includes NOTHING! You must pay separately for internet, breakfast, computer use, etc.. No fridge in the room. Appears to be clean but I found countless hairs from people other than myself all over the room... Icky...
