Basic accommodations

The dain in the shower floor was cloged. I reported that to the hotel on the first day. When we left it had not yet been repaired. Sink was so small and close to the wall you could not wash your face in it without getting water all over the floor. No AC had to leave window open, so much noise from outside could not sleep. Loud rowdy music screaming and yelling till about 3:00 am.

Amsterdam

Great location. Was about 1.5 blocks to tram stop, nice places to eat, night life, shopping, money exchange, bus stop. Friendly staff. Rooms small and clean. No air conditioner in room so would not stay there if go to Amsterdam in summer time. Would stay there again on next trip to Amsterdam.

APALLING

Avoid at all costs. Arrived in the evening to be stuck in a box of a room with a glorious view of a wall and a room with collapsing furniture (oh, and blood on the floor around the bin in the bathroom). We paid for a Canal View room, but that is certainly not what we got. The manager was not available in person and refused to speak on the phone either. Just a note: if you do end up with no other option but to stay here, do not ask for extra pillows or duvets (they supply 1 pillow each on the bed), as they are housed on a dirty floor in a dingy room with a no lights working and the staff step on them with their dirty shoes.

Excellent value for money!

I booked this hotel for myself and my 22yr old daughter for a 2 night break, we upgraded to a canal view room. I was a bit dubious when booking as I usually stay in larger hotels with a higher star rating. So I was unsure what to expect, having paid what I consider a fairly minimal amount for the 2 nights, which also including breakfast! However I was extremely impressed by the hotel, the location was great, a tram ride from the central station, on a quiet canal side street, but with lots of places to eat nearby and good transport links to other areas of the city. The staff were very helpful, the room a reasonable size, clean and well equipt, the continental buffet breakfast was also good. Overall I would say excellent value for money.

A nice place just off the beaten

A nice place just off the beaten path, but still within easy walking distance of all the site in Amsterdam and with Tram and Canal Bus/tours stops just around the corner. Staff were friendly and helpful, the room was comfortable although the bath room was a little small. We booked a day trip and some tickets with the staff at the front desk and were colected from the Hotel.

Renovated Old Europe Canal House

The King Hotel is a renovated 17th century canal house. Typical of Old Europe, space is limited. The bathroom in the room is very modern, but added at the expense of living space; don't plan to entertain in your room. On the other hand, the Old Europe ambiance adds to the experience. A nice continental breakfast is included in the room price. The location on a canal southwest of central Amsterdam is within easy walking distance of Leidseplein (great dining and shopping), Niuwe Spiegelstraat (antiques shopping), the Museumsplein (Rijks-museum and the Van Gogh Museum), and Vondelpark. If you haven't been to Amsterdam for awhile, watch out for the bicycles! They have their own lanes next to the pedestrian walkways with absolute right-of-way. There may be more bicycles in Amsterdam than cars. Public transportation is convenient and inexpensive. Buy a Nationale Strippen Kaart for about 7 euros ... good for 15 "rides" anywhere in the Netherlands.

amsterdamn

hotel was in a good location. note that reception closes at 10:30pm so let them know if you're going to arrive later than that. reserved a room for my friend and i and they gave us a double bed eventhough i emailed them before our arrival and requested 2 single beds. they allowed us to move to a room with 2 beds after our first night. the second room we stayed in had a pretty foul smell coming from outside.
