The first 'one to five star' hotel of the world is situated in a revamped 1920s building and is a showcase of Dutch design. The rooms differ in size, but the high quality service is the same for everybody: super comfortable beds with feather quilts, an excellent restaurant with pure, local food, where breakfast is served with home made jams, and caf latte. The restaurant is also open for lunch and dinner till late. To further enhance your stay an extensive library of art books is available, free WIFI and a range of cultural activities freely accessible for guests and local people. So you might even rub shoulders with some locals. The hotel is located in the heart of the trendy Eastern Docklands with views over the water and a huge South-facing terrace. Away from the noise of the city, but still only 5 minutes by tram from Central Station.

Lloyd Hotel and Cultural Embassy Amsterdam Rooms

5 STARS - Prestige Deluxe
These rooms are breathtaking and very spacious. All five star rooms are different. Some rooms have a bath in the middle or a bathroom designed by Atelier van Lieshout. You can sleep in a bed with room for eight, or practice scales on a concert grand. One thing is for sure: you will never forget this room. Additional bed is available at 35 Euros per night.
4 STARS - Prestige
Beautiful, spacious rooms with an exceptional interior. In some of the rooms original cabinets have been retained or they have a recessed bed build in the wall. In other rooms wood-slated shutters provide a special, high atmospheric light fall. The furniture is designed by famous contemporary Dutch designers and it is combined with classic furniture, like chairs from the early twentieth century by architect De Bazel. Additional bed is available at 35 Euros per night.
3 STARS - Superior
These rooms are equipped with furniture from famous contemporary Dutch artists such as Richard Hutten, Ineke Hans. Office Lakenvelder, and Atelier van Lieshout. Architects MVRDV have designed remarkable bathrooms for these rooms. In some rooms the brightly coloured bathroom is clearly visible in the middle of the room, in other rooms the bathroom seems absent, but can be folded-out. Additional bed is available at 35 Euros per night.
2 STARS - Comfort
Beautiful, amazing rooms with private bathroom. The design of MVRDV and Seyferth has led to imaginative solutions for efficient use of space. Some rooms have a surprising shower, others a magnificent view over the water.
1 STARS - Economy (shared bathrooms)
Original, historic rooms that have been restored with love and devotion so that the original wood panelling and tiles could be maintained. Christoph Seyferth designed the furniture for these rooms including the Lloyd Table. All these rooms overlook the Docklands. A bathrobe is provided for the tiny walk to the bathroom.

Dining

Restaurant Snel
The menu reflects the Lloyd Hotel 1 to 5 stars concept of the hotel. It offers dishes from sweetbread to fries. High-quality products are used for all dishes, coming from organic farmers in the area or quality suppliers such as Menno (baguette, pain de campagne), Holtkamp (croquettes and biscuits) and Lindenhoff (meat, imported cheeses). We make our own cakes, jams and mayonnaise, by traditional recipes. On the menu are products of the season as well as "forgotten vegetables" such as parsnip and black roots. The food is pure in its quality and in the way it is presented. The menu consists mainly of French and Italian cuisine, but dishes from the rest of Europe are also available. From 5pm there is a wide range of pinchos on the bar. Here we offer a large selection of beers, including beers from the local brewery and an exclusive wine list in several price categories. All wines can be ordered by the glass.

Pleasantly surprised

The shared bathroom turned out to be HUGE and private. There were free hot tea and coffee stations located on some floors. The odd history of the hotel added to the intrigue. The dining room was clean and offered a variety from the menu as well as a breakfast buffet. The staff was mostly very friendly.

Really interesting hotel

Loved our stay in a 3* room. The room lacked some facilities (although to be expected for 3*) but was still good value. Hotel building, concept and design are unique and interesting. Staff are friendly and the cafe/restaurant is great. Location is a bit far away from central old town - but we were there for an event at the Convention Factory so couldn't have been more perfect!

On the harbour but needed a step stool to see it

The staff was fantastic! The room...well not so much. When we found out that it used to be a prison (among other things) it made a lot of sense. The communal toilet and showers definitely could use some tender care. The restaurant and bar were great as well...clean, friendly, appropriate. The staff makes that hotel!!!

A unique hotel

This hotel was unlike any other we have stayed in. We enjoyed exploring its unique design and layout. The hotel staff were friendly. Our room was spacious and the bed one of the most comfortable. The hotel is located in an up and coming area 2km from Central Station and served well by the tram network. We would highly recommend this hotel.

Quirky Amsterdam

The hotel is not in the centre of Amsterdam but this made it perfect because it gave you a chance to get away from a very busy city. We loved the quirkyness of the hotel which meant that it felt unique and not like most hotels which tend to be bland. Breakfast was very expensive which was a bit of a disappointment because the restaurant looked very inviting. Be prepared for a 15 minute tram ride into the city centre but this is part of the experience of visiting Amsterdam.

Fun place to stay!

Lloyd Hotel is quirky, and fun. The staff is excellent, and so is the restaurant. Pretty darn convenient, just a short Tram ride from Central Station. i can definitely recommend staying here, and would do so again on my next trip.

Great hotel, awesome location

I was going to a conference at the RAI convention center, and the hotel was located right along one of the tram route that was only 3 stops away from Central Station, so getting to the RAI was quite easy. Also the hotel's locale was in a more residential area of Amserdam, which was nice, I got to experience more of what it's like for the people that live there, and less of just a view of a really touristy area.

Avoid This Hotel

Upon arrival the hotel staff tried to swindle me out of half my holiday money as deposit. They made no effort to send an email or make phone call to inform me in advance of this. They were quote thick and rude about this and didn't give me the best start to my holiday in Amsterdam. There was no proper lighting in room. only a few small wall lamps that took a bit of work to use. On the last day the hotel staff tried to hold onto the small deposit i did give them Not a nice hotel. Avoid at all cost .
