Nice hotel

We were very nervous about the location but it turned out to be fine. The train was closeby and came frequently, took about ten ,inutes to get to downtown amsterdam. After midnight there is a night bus that is easy too (even after partying!!) We never got a taxi, even from the airport. Easy! The room was very clean and new.

Never again

Hotel is in the stockhouse area, bad situation. Staff has no workmanship, they are inexperienced. The rooms (in the old piece)are too small for two people. The sauna is a joke, dirty and small. The conference service doesn´t work..

The decor is very attractive.

The decor is very attractive. The cjeck-in assistant could not provide clear and concise tourist information and modes of travel. The rooms have no self-controlling airconditioning, the fans are totally ineffective. The rooms and beds are very comfortable and cleaned regularly. One day prior to our departure our room had no clean towels, no bath mat, and a dirtly glass still on the bedside table. Breakfasts are well presented and enjoyable - I even got gluten free bread. The dinner menu is varied with choices of specials and well priced - staff were very friendly and helpful. Checking out we had to pay the city tax on top of the rate we paid through HotelClub - this was minimal but these charges were not advised at the time of booking. We also had to provide our receipt of payment because the assistant advised that the payment had not been recorded. Fortunately we had kept all our documentation. The young man who assisted us with our cab on departure was very knowledgeabel and helpful.

Good, not impressive

It is about a half mile/850 meter walk to the nearest tram or metro station. The hotel is definitely a bit off the beaten path, but only a 15 minute ride to downtown/Central Station. If you are interested in staying out past midnight, I don't recommend it b/c the bus stop is VERY far away - as the other modes of transport stop at 12:30am. The hotel was clean, bed nice, and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

If you are there for much time I do recommend buying a 48 hour transit pass. You only have to ride 5 times to save money! It is also faster than having to purchase a ticket every time you board a metro/tram/bus!

Excellent hotel

This is an excellent four star hotel. Excellent breakfast. The hotel charges for internet. They claim to be couple miles from Amsterdam, they mean couple miles from outside border of Amsterdam. The hotel is very far from Amsterdam Central station. I took a tram from Central station and it took half an hour to the end of tram line and then another kilometer of walking. The hotel staff did not know that the Amstel station could get me a train easily. Amstel station is quite close to the hotel and one could as easily walk to it. That may be a better way to get to the hotel since there are frequent non-stop trains between Amsterdam Central and Amstel stations. Please check this since I found out about the Amstel station at the end of my trip and did not try to use it

Mercure is awesome!

The reseptionists were great. Very helpful with directions and answering questions. Breakfast was pleasent and quiet. The city tram was just over the bridge, a short .25 Km away and the hotel also sold me a 24 travel pass. The room was spotless and VERY quiet. I couldn't have had a better experience.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

The City tram service is top notch. Get your GVB pass at the reception desk for up to 72 hours. It is good for any public transpartation but the tram takes you anywhere. They go all over. Grab a city map (the tram lines are usually on them), and plot out your trip into town. It's so easy! Also, go down any street or alley way and you'll find something new and different. The town is amazing!

I've rated location as bad only

I've rated location as bad only from a point of view that we were in Amsterdam for New Year's eve and the night bus stops quite a way from the hotel (if you can get off at the stop because so many people squeezed in the back entrance that it was impossible to get through). Luckily a taxi turned up at RAI Station and 4 of us used that and journey cost 8-10 Euros so not that bad in the end. Hotel would be ok for Business People though with a car.
