Great Staff, Great Location, Needs Modernisation
The staff of this hotel in my opinion and dealings were excellent especially reception and room service and house keeping. Location Location Location is the main selling point for the tourist especially first-timers. Rooms were clean but need modernisation. Billed as a 5 star maybe in parts but not in general but a good 4 star. Some rooms are split level maybe a consideration for some guests. Room 450 is internal avoid. The canal rooms were great even the waterhens were a pleasure.

Great hotel & location.........but
The Barbizon is in a great location and the hotel itself is very nice, however the rooms although clean an roomy do seem to be rather dated. We stayed here about ten years ago and the room decor has not changed since then. Our bathroom still had a shower over the bath. I would have expected a separate shower in a 5 star hotel in 2012. We struggled to sleep as the room was so hot (26 degrees), the thermostat did not work and our window did not open. I mentioned this to the staff on reception and they said that they would have it checked. I asked if we could have a fan if it could not be fixed. It was not fixed and no fan was supplied, no other rooms were available, so we suffered another restless night. Moaning finished! The hotel is in a very good location and only a short walk to Dam Square, all the museums and galleries. Central station is straight across the road so very convenient for travelling to other destinations and places of interest. I'm not sure if I would use the Barbizon again based on this experience and considering that there is a abundance of hotels of various standards nearby. JT - Saffron Walden, UK

Upscale Hotel
Short walking distance from central station, nearby Zeedijk and Warmoestraat are great for restaurants and nightlife (Saturday night was so full of people). The room is spacious with a large bathroom by European standard. The room on ground floor is next to the canal to allow for boat landing, an interesting experience. Staff is very courteous and the lobby and bar are nice and slick.

Not a nice hotel !!
It’s more like a 3 star hotel. My husband and I stayed there in September for 5 days. We came to Amsterdam from a satisfying stay at 4 star NH hotel in Ghent. We hoped that Amsterdam 5 star NH hotel will be better, but we were disappointed. Hotel staff told us that because of renovation, there’s no sauna and gym in the hotel. This was not mentioned on the hotel’s web site. Our room had old small screen TV and old furniture. Beds were terrible. Pillows- artificial and very bad- they replaced them with somewhat better. Closet door was not easy to open, so we kept the sliding closet door open. There were no drawers in the room and we needed to keep most of our clothes in the suit case or put on chairs. When we complaint about the room, the manager promised to find another room in the morning, but morning manager said that it was a lie and there are no rooms available. In exactly these words !!! Bathroom had only one sink, no separate shower and a narrow bath tab, where it was very uncomfortable to take shower. Room had no slippers and one over-sized bath robe. They delivered slippers after our request. Business center had only one PC (!!!), which turned off every 15 minutes. Hotel’s location is very good, we have to admit. We do not recommend to stay there.

Weekend break to Amsterdam.
This hotel was in a fantastic location you couldn't wish for any better. We did not eat here so cannot comment on the food, but the menu did look a little on the expensive side & didn't have many guests dining here. The bar was about the same price as an other pub in Amsterdam. Our room did not have a safe, so we had to go behind reception to a safety deposit room, and although this was not ideal you felt very safe & it was never a problem to the staff to let you in whilst you got what you needed. It was a nice hotel & I would deffo go back. Rooms were clean & staff were friendly :-)

Good convenient location
I had a quiet room at the back of the hotel facing a small canal. The hotel is opposite Central Station, and alongside a small pedestrian street called Zeedijk.

Great Amsterdam Hotel
The hotel is in a fantastic location. The canals are close by and within walking distance. Many sights are also very close. There are many good restaurants close by as well. We were upgraded to a very comfortable room with a great view. The room was very tastefully decorated, very comfortable and spacious. The hotel restaurant has fine food and good ambiance. The staff was very professional and attentive. I would definitely stay there again. We were very happy with the hotel.

Good location
The hotel is in a good location near the train station, but our room was on the 1st floor next to the street and we could hear everything going on til it quieted down around 2am. The bed had not been replaced in the last 10 years I think, old tv, have to pay to use the fitness center
