Average hotel in perfect location
Compared to other hotels in Amsterdam, the NH Grand Kras is quite nice but compared to four star hotels everyplace else in the world and it falls short in almost every category. I stayed in one of the renovated rooms that was not in the main building - room felt more like a boutique hotel and wasn't bad but there was nothing special about it. I asked the concierge a number of questions and each time he or she didn't know or just gave me an answer to get rid of me instead of trying to provide me with accurate information. For example, i asked the concierge when i checked in if there was any place to eat at 10:30p and he said "no, everything is closed." I asked how everything could be closed in all of Amsterdam and he responded "look, all restaurants are closed." So I walked out the door and around the corner and found four full service restaurants that were still opened (less than 50 yards from the hotel). From my perspective, this is a low three star hotel in a great location so if location is important to you, then this might not be a bad choice - just don't expect too much.

In the heart of the city
I wasn't sure what to expect although was hopeful based on some of the other reviews. Wasn't disappointed despite the fact I didn't get one of the refurbished rooms. Room was spacious and comfortable and had everything you would need for a short stay. The breakfast was in the Winter Gardens restaurant which was fantastic as a venue and so was the food. I drove to Amsterdam and parked my car in the hotel car park which was my one and only real disappointment. Apart from being expensive to park I would have liked someone at reception suggesting an alternative. People were friendly and helpful in the hotel and it was within easy reach of any tourist attraction being so centrally located. Would recommend it as a really comfortable hotel and a nice experience for any new visitors to Amsterdam.

Weekend in Amsterdam
Very positive overall. Nice comfortable room. Best location in Amsterdam for a tourist. Only negatives. (1) The front desk sent us to elevator 5 to go up to our room, but elevator 5 had a hard to see sign on it noting it was out of order. (elevator 5 is a bit old and small. Not nearly as nice as the rest of the hotel). (2) breakfast is Expensive. €58 for two. Be prepared

Could have been better...
First of all, as other travellers have mentioned, they are very strict about not letting you into your room on your day of arrival until 3:00 p.m. I slept on the hotel lobby sofa which I'm sure didn't please them. Even though the hotel is histortic, the room that we got put in was ultra-modern, maybe too much so. One night there was a party in the conference area below our room and the music actually was so loud and booming that it shook our room. When calling the front desk about it, they said that it was a party and the music would end at midnight -- no apologies. And since they were full, they couldn't move us -- right! The concierge on the most part were not friendly or helpful. Good location though.

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
Try the Turkish restaurants -- they're great and reasonable. Cafe Luxemburg has a nice lunch and atmosphere -- very Dutch. The Dutch pea soup that I had at a few places was very tasty. Be careful, though, not as many places as you think take credit cards.

Great Location in Amsterdam
Not only is this a beautiful hotel....inside and out but its location can't be beat. Located in walking distance to Central (Train) Station and close to the #2 Tram that takes you to the museums, this is the perfect spot to start!!! Loved every minute!

Ask about local buses and trains that can take you to visit Windmills for a fraction of the tour cost.

Great Location
I have stayed at this hotel before and have always had a great experience. This trip I was celebrating a brithday with a friend and the hotel gave us a complimentary upgrade to a room with a balcony which was great. The room was large, clean and the hotel is in a great location, walking distance to anything you want to do in Amsterdam.
