Irritating details creat a bit of bait-n-switch impression
Good points: very, very friendly staff and nice location. Bad points: advertised free Internet was slower than a typical mobile Internet connection (delivering steady 14KB/sec..), advertised fitness didn't mention use of it carried a fee (albeit minor one), the "special price" for breakfast was over 20€ (more if you decided to take it in the morning). Not big issues if I was on a holiday, but on a business trip very expensive place in terms of lost time.

Great, tough F and Sat was very noisy because of a street-level disco - we were on the top floor the noise woke us up.

Welcomed Early Check-In
We arrived at 7:00 AM after a long and exhausting red-eye flight from Nairobe. I expected to have to store our luggage and try to stay awake for another 7 hours until we could get into our room. What a wonderful surprise to be given our room upon arrival--we were able to catch a few hours of sleep in a lovely room before we toured Amsterdam. The front desk staff was extremely helpful and considerate. The room had more amenities than many hotels--toothbrush, paste, hair brush, razor, etc. I loved the deep bathtub, so welcome after the long flight and hours of sightseeing, The bed was comfortable--there were only two pillows, but there was a card in the room that offered an invitation to call to choose from a number of different pillow styles. The breakfast buffet in the lovely "Winter Garden" was exceptionally good, although quite expensive. We did order room service and were quite disappointed in the quality of the food. I ordered the mushroom ravioli--it was tough and was cold when it arrived. My husband was also disappointed with his order of seafood. The order came with only the actual plate of food--no special covered tray, no flower, no garnish, no rolls or glasses of water to complement the meal that we have had in other hotels. And, it only came with one set of silverware and one napkin! But despite this, the hotel staff was wonderful, the room comfortable, and the location central to great sightseeing. And the price extraordinarily good--one third of what we would have paid directly!

Just ax the street is an Albert Hein which is perfect to buy water and munchies, coffee (cappuccino and expresso) and fresh baked goods. The other stores are complete ripoffs. If you do not see it just ask hotel staff.

5* Hmmm ?
Room service - couldn't get through to them so went via reception who said they'd call me straight back. We gave up after 2 hours and went out to eat. The room - was cold and heating was under central control so couldn't increase the temperature. On the plus side - excellent location and a beautiful hotel.

Great business & vacation site
I was in town for an exhibition at the RAI, and found the commute on tram from Dam easy. Location could not have been any better for enjoying this lovely city. At first, I thought there would be much noise on the side street upon which our room faced, but it proved to be very quiet with window closed. Only problem was having to buzz the front desk to obtain entry after about 11 o'clock. Was lucky to get a good deal or price would have been out of my reach.
