The hotel originates from 1912 and lies directly to the lively Rembrandt square, direct in the heart of the city centre. The hotel is an official Dutch monument, has a rich cultural history, and an obvious style with lots of Art Deco and jugenstill details. Behind the lovely facade, the rooms are modern and well equipped to accommodate all guests. Direct public transport connection with Amsterdam Central Station and the RAI congress centre both can be reached within 10 minutes. The Rembandtplein is the most well known goodtime of Amsterdam, due to the theaters, bars, restaurants and clubs. Museums as the Rembrandt House and the jewish Historical Museum are within walking distance. The famous shopping streets; Kalverstraat and P.C. Hoofstraat are in the direct surroudings of the hotel. A 5% city tax is to be paid at the hotel.

Great Vacation with my wife!

The hotel was ideally situated, very easy to find, clean, the staff were friendly and the noise levels were ok. The location of this hotel means you are in the central part of an entertainment complex that is of course perfect for night life, but can get a bit noisy at times. We smartly we opted for a back facing level 5 room which meant we could escape the noises when we needed the rest. Asides from that small matter, it was a absolutely fantastic stay, no complaints whatsoever and when i return i shall be certainly checking NH schillers rates!

Location is the Key!

I have to say my stay at Schiller hotel was very enjoyable. The location of the hotel in relation to the things I wanted to see and places I wanted to go was perfect. Being a single guy and traveling to Amsterdam simpy to unwind for the weekend and do some site seeing, the hotel had everything I could ask for. It was right in the center of a great party atmosphere and easy walking distance to public transportation. I did not try the breakfast there so I can't really comment on that but there were plenty of cafes and restaraunts right in the immediate vicinity. I had a room on the back side, so nose was not and issue and I can not really comment on what the noise level would be like if you had a room on the front side of the hotel. My only real issue I would say I had with the room was the lack of air conditioning. Fortunately for me the weather was mild and the fan they provided was sufficient for my stay but if I were to have been there at the hottest time of the year then I am not sure how well my comfort level would have been without some type of AC. Be warned though, they initally gave me the wrong room which was a single with just a very small bed in a very tiny room. Fortunately they realized this immediatley before I even had time to call down and inform them. They immediately gave me the larger room with the larger beds as requested. I dont think i could have managed in the smaller room. Also when I was leaving they were nice enough to call me a cab because they informed me that the taxis parked outside of the hotel were illegal cabs and not advisable to use. So I used the cab they called and was charged 45 euro for a tirp to the airport. I am not sure if this is the norm but i thought it was a bit much since I only paid 16euro for a shuttle ride to the hotel from the airport. I expect they have a deal with this certain taxi to split the difference in the fare if they direct customers toward them. So just check with other services before hand and compare prices yourself. Staff was very helpful and courteous, especially the cleaning staff. I would definitely stay here again, and plan to next month and I would reccommend it to all my freinds.

A nice trip

The Hotel was comfortable. The staff was courteous, frendly and helpful. The neighborhood, however was noisy at night especially with the pot smoking and the occasionly fist fight. The nearby Starbucks on Utrechtsestraar 9 was handy for morning coffee and there were some fine restrantrants further south on the same street.

Average Hotel, Bad Location

The hotel itself is average, but a bit pricey. The location is absolutely horrible, unless you want to be surrounded by lots of activity and noise all night long. Rembrandtplein turns in to a bustling bar and night club scene that stays loud until around 5 a.m. on the weekends and 2 a.m. on the weekdays. I was originally given a first floor balcony room as I requested smoking (and the only smoking they have is on the balcony). You do NOT want to stay on the balcony side of the building. It is extremely loud from the clubs that are situated right next to the hotel. This is coming from someone that regularly stays in the middle of midtown Manhattan without a problem. If you get one of the rooms on the side of the building opposite of the square, it is not bad (although can still be heard). The rooms are small per European standards, but clean. The location itself is very central to transit (tram lines 9 and 14 are right out the door and the metro is a block away) and is within a half mile walking distance to Museumplein and the Centraal Station area.

Nightlife tip: Short walk from hotel

If you are looking for clubs or bars, this hotel sits right next to them. If you are looking for Museums, you are about half mile walk or tram ride. If you are looking for Coffeeshops, there are some next door, but the vast majority are about half mile north.

Great Location for Youngsters

This hotel was one of the interesting buildings on Rembrandt square. it was decorated in art deco style and really interesting. The staff was neither overly friendly or mean but did speak a multitude of languages. The room was spacious, clean and well taken care of. I would suggest this hotel for the younger crowd as it is on Rembrandt Square, a popular area of bars and clubs, which can be very noisy at nighttime. Three stops on the #9 tram from centraal station and you are there!

Good Experience but rooms facing the front of the square are quite noisy. I request to switch in the back of the hotel (fully quiet). Service and clean are very OK. reccomended.

Perfect hotel for Amsterdam

We stayed 5 days at the hotel, which is located right on the 9 tram line and walkable to all the sights. Great food options and gay/straight bars close by, not to mention all the museums Amsterdam has to offer. Hotel was clean and staff professional. Our room had a double bed and was fine for a few days but if longer than too small. No ice machine but bar downstairs can give you some ice in a small bucket. Rembrantplein square gets busy at night so stay in a room facing the back of the hotel, which was very quiet.

Good location, lovely staff, friendly, efficient, etc., but their bar prices are outrageous. No Air-con at all! Also, don't trust the pictures on the website - the rooms are much, much, smaller than they appear on screen - that gave us an unpleasant surprise when we arrived.

Very helpful staff, excellent location for exploring Amsterdam. Very small room, very average breakfast. Would have been helpful if times when restaurant was open had been made available! 3 star rating would be more accurate
