Good Value for money but a few important flaws

When we arrived at the hotel there were several customers waiting to check in. We were told to wait in the bar and he would call us through. Everyone else got called one by one but we waited 40 minutes before going back to the desk to discover the staff member had gone and forgotten about us so we checked in with the new member of staff. We felt this was really bad service. The lift to the fourth floor was more than scarey. It was very small and shook but there was no other way to get the suitcases up to our room. The room was a real surprise to us as it was very clean with a large bathroom and a huge bed. We loved have the bath to relax in after a day of walking but a bit disappointed that the jets didn't work in it. The shower door didn't close well so you had to lift it at the bottom. The shower was very powerful and this was great. The tv was great and easy to use and the safe was very useful. The bed was very comfortable but the mattress kept slipping off the bed which was very frustrating. One morning we walked down to find a huge pond sized puddle in the hallway of the 3rd floor. This was pretty strange and worrying but when we told the staff they brushed it off as though it was a regular occurrence. The location was great. Although it wasn't at all pretty, we could walk down to the town and get fruit and breakfast much cheaper and we happily walked into central amsterdam. This was really great. We also used the tram system which was really good. Overall we were pleased with our stay at West side Inn Hotel and would recommend it and stay again. However we think there are some vital improvements needed to attract more customers.

It is easy to just get on the tram but I would recommend following the tram route even just one time and take in everything around you. The food is much cheaper outside of the centre and you can pick up really good fruit and food just near the hotel.

Good for what you pay

Staff was not the most polite I have ever met. Albeit the hotel had a very convenient luggage-storage room with a password-locked door, its door was never locked. Room was very clean, with cleaning rounds every day. Only problem I had with the room was that the door was slightly bent, looking like it had been kicked-in at some point (crack near the doorknob and bent door). Elevator only goes to the 4th floor (where I was staying), and its really small and old.

Girls weekend

Close enough to the tram stop.. Just took us a while to find it initially. Other than that it's a great place to stay. Pizza from the lobby was good but cheap. I'd stay there again if I find myself in Amsterdam.

not that great

The room we stayed in was definitely not worth the money we paid. Mold was all over the shower; the drains in the bathroom were very slow. The location was fine, the parking was 12.50 Euro a day. One of the days we decided to stay out late, we came back to our door left open from the cleaning service. This hotel offers the bare minimum. I only picked this hotel because it was one of the few hotels in Amsterdam that offered parking.

great value

The rooms are pretty run down but the bed is comfortable and the tv was nice. The staff was friendly and helpful. I was under the impression this hotel had a shuttle from the airport, and this was one of the main reasons I picked this hotel. It does not have its own shuttle. There is a shuttle that runs in a loop from many Amsterdam hotels to the airport, including this hotel.

ok'ish hotel for the price

The cons first. Bathroom was in pretty bad state and had some things that shoulda been easily taken care of. Some rooms were being restorated but if this had already been I dont know. I certainly hope it wansnt. Tap for sink was clearly loose. Toilet seat wouldnt keep up, so as males we had to improvise. There was nothing to swipe the wet floor after shower. Cleaning lady hadnt cleaned completely after last customer since we found trash not belonging to us while reviewing the room before check out. Also there were some stains on floor and "clean" beddrobe. Otherwise room was furnished okish but fridge woulda been nice. There was no loud noises during the night or any other disturbance. Staff was friendly and helpful at all times. We didnt use catering services so cant comment on that. Overall, the hotel was good for price we paid, and accommondated two travelers nicely.

Money-saving tip: Short drive from hotel

There was mall with two big marts just next to hitel which was very convenient. Hotel was 6km from city centre. Still you can get around with tram and other pub trans nicely. Tram number 2 is the one to use, for night bus 328. When you arrive at airport, you should take train to Ams Lelylaan and walk from there/take a cab.

Great value

Stayed here for the first time for my Birthday weekend. Staff were great. One of the receptionist allowed me to make a call to the UK for free as myself and companion had no cell phone access. Good location, only a train ride to center. Would stay here again.

Very quiet

Old dark, needs modernising. Too far from anywhere. You need a number 2 tram to get to the better location The beds were very comfortable. TV excellent. No tea or coffee in rooms. The staff were very helpful and polite. Young people like this hotel because of the price. There were many groups who were well behaved and i am sure they did not mind The location.
