Dining
- Chameleon Restaurant
- Chameleon Restaurant brings you a taste of the very best New Zealand produce, with contemporary cuisine from our kitchen and a fine selection of local wines. www.chameleonrestaurant.co.nz
- Dockside
- Dockside offers a largely seafood based menu focusing on the best of NZ produce. Emphasis is on freshness and providing the customer with new choices. Tip: Dockside doubles as a nightclub from late evening on Friday and Saturday.
- Great India Restaurant
- A well established family-owned Indian restaurant with excellent food and service. Great for those who want a taste of 'real' India. Tip: Mention that you were recommended by the InterContinental Concierge.
- Sakura
- A friendly, enthusiastic restaurant offering a great taste of Japanese culture and cuisine, with sashimi, sushi, tempura and teppanyaki. Tip: You can book a private Japanese function room that seats 24 for private parties.
- Boulcott Street Bistro
- One of Wellington's finest restaurants with excellent service and cuisine. Situated in Wellington's historic Plimmer house. Tip: Bookings for lunch only.
- Crazyhorse Steakhouse
- A unique little steakhouse with Devine beef cooked to perfection. Has an extensive wine list to accompany your meal. Tip: Try the apple crumble for dessert.
- Matterhorn
- Soul music with soul food, entertaining Wellington locals and visitors for many years. A funky place to wine and dine. Tip: Great place to finish your night with a terrific beverage list and excellent music from local and international artists.
- One Red Dog Restaurant
- This restaurant pioneered the gourmet pizza in Wellington. A very busy restaurant with daily specials and an extensive wine and cocktail list. Tip: Great place to start off your night or to grab a late bite as the kitchen is open till midnight.
- The Backbencher Pub and Café
- The heart of political satire in Wellington city with many life-sized props of NZ politicians and accounts of our short history. Tip: A lunchtime meeting could have you bump into a Member of Parliament.
- The Last Supper Club
- A very sexy place with a curvaceous roofline over a very sleek bar. International cuisine based around the Pacific Rim with a French bistro fusion. Tip: Secure a sumptuous booth by booking early. Very relaxed place.

Overall Great Hotel with Superior Service
We stayed 2 nights at the intercontential and had a great time. The gym was very nice for hotel standards and free. We utilized the concierge service many times as it was expensive to pay for Internet. They were consistently professional, attentive and helpful. The location was great and we walked to Te Papa museum, Courtneay and Cuba Street as well as the Cable cars.

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
The Matterhorn was an excellent restaurant on Cuba street. A little bit further walk, Osteria del Toro was also excellent for dinner.

Short walk from hotel
Head down to the waterfront and enjoy the pubs and restaurants. I learned of them just after I'd had an OK, but not great late night meal in the Hotel's restaurant.

Used the Club room option. Very nice club lounge with excellent, attentive service. Room was well appointed and very comfortable. Location excellent for our buisiness trip. Concierge assistance with taxi and baggage storage couldn't be faulted. Check in and check out were handled very efficiently.

we'll try somewhere else next time
I was promised a phone call when the room was ready but "it didn't go through". Perhaps the "InterContinental" check-in desk can't make international calls. I suspect they never tried. We went back and apparently the room was ready but the bath towels and soap were missing and the hand towels were dirty. Throughout our four day stay, the Business Center was never staffed. There's no wifi. Internet access costs $10 for half an hour or some such ridiculous rate. The food at the Chameleon lived up to its pretensions, which is fair praise indeed. Service, though, could have been more attentive. Every night and morning, watch the maitre d' fiddle with her computer for minutes before one of the waiters notices you "waiting to be seated" and takes pity. Yeah, you could cough, but why should you have to? You could die of thirst waiting for a refill. New Zealand is full of great coffee, so don't touch the regular joe at the InterContinental. I could sleep fine on a soft bed or a fairly hard bed but not this bed. The seemingly warn-out mattress offered very little support. They did take good care of our bags on the first and last days. When I needed first aid, the concierge was helpful and knowledgeable. The gym guy really tried. Well, it was pretty cheap, at ~150 USD / night.
