Located on famous Bryggen a famous attraction that is included on UNESCO's World Heritage List -A beautiful waterfront hotel next to picturesque Hanseatic wharf -The traditional architectural style is in perfect harmony with it's surroundings & combines Old World charm with modern services -Shopping areas & fish market within walking distance -Rates include super breakfast unless otherwise noted -Tax included. Some rooms had been recently refurbished. Older room was clean and comfortable with all facilities. Excellent breakfast. Ideally situated in city centre at the end of the airport bus route. Not expensive for Norway.

Very nice hotel

I chose the hotel because 1. I used SAS hotels for 10 years on business in other Scan cities and had excellent service, and 2. I was meeting a travel group there 3 days after check-in and did not want to transfer with heavy luggage from another hotel. The convenience was well worth the slightly higher cost compared to other Bergen offerings, and their excellent breakfast was typical of SAS hotels. I asked for a quiet room and had one; the lack of a view was not as issue as I was only in the room to sleep anyway. The furnishings in my room showed a little wear, but were comfortable and efficient to use, and the free internet worked every time. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Get the Bergen Card if you are going to visit just a few of the local sights and/or use the transport system, it's available at the information bureau just across the street from the fish and flea market, an about a 5 min walk from the hotel. Arriving Bergen at the train station at 3p it was next to impossible to get a taxi so I pulled my heavy cuitcase to the hotel -about a 30 min trip (maybe 20-25 without the suitcase). The flea/fish market area has good prices for simple woolen goods/souvenirs compared to the many tourist area shops. For simple snacks and picnic type food use the grocery store across the plaza in front of the hotel for bread, cheese, beer, etc.

Great location, modest rooms

The initial room offered had serious mold in the bathroom, complete with a moldy smell. The next room was dark, the matress very soft from many years of use, and the furniture a bit beaten up. The automatic key system seems to assume one-night stays and locked us out every afternoon, requiring a daily check-in trip to the registration desk on a prepaid 5-night stay. Staff helpfulness varied greatly.
