We needed a hotel as a refuge on each end of a hike to Machu Picchu. The service was great. The breakfast was good every morning. This hotel is only a few blocks from the main square. The rooms were fine for us but we are not fancy and do not require a lot of extras. The included welcome dinner was good. Loved the heated floors in the bathroom.

Good Location, Friendly Staff

  • Domermick Verified Customer

Disclaimer: Been to South America three times now, this being the second time in Peru. Had my passport lost/stolen the last time in Peru (ten years ago), and ran into some aggressive people (a beggar and [*]) who may have clouded my image of Peru. In any event, more than anything else, security for my wife and I was forefront on my mind, and being a bit more expensive location led me to believe this place was a good choice.I was not disappointed - I felt completely at ease at the hotel. In addition, the staff was very friendly and helpful right from the outset (be sure to arrange in advance a free transfer from the airport to the hotel - the warning sign at the airport about the risks of taking unregistered cabs made me doubly glad I did).A trip to Macchu Picchu was arranged by the staff with ease (probably risky of me to not book in advance, I am sure...but that aside they made the process very easy). I assume there was a commission involved, but not much...$250 US dollars each cash, but the train ride alone costs $120. Then there is the park fee, two bus rides, and taxi transfer to the train station about 15 minutes away. No regrets on the $250. We both enjoyed the restaurant - reasonable prices for a very good meal. Again here, as elsewhere in the hotel, the staff was very friendly and helpful.I would stay here again if I were to find myself needing a place in Cusco, and would recommend it to a friend too. Don't expect to be overwhelmed with extravagance and you won't be disappointed. Do try to get a second floor room as the first floor rooms open into the courtyard area where the breakfast starts being served at 5:00 in the morning for the Macchu Picchu travellers.Definitely recommended...If I had one issue was that the beds were kind of small for a couple, but if I had wanted luxury I would have gone to Las Vegas!

It was very nice accomodations, bed was so comfortable..right downtown..so luckily you could walk to shops and restaurants. Driving in Cusco is crazy..best left to accomplished taxi drivers. Lots of noise at night outside..but that was due to the location..can't be helped. Staff was wonderful. Breakfast was included, but weird..they only have unpasturized milk, so not good for cereal or plain drinking, but ok in coffee IF you can get it..and steer clear of the papaya juice..not good!

The hotel is in a good location about 5 minutes walk from the center of Cusco. The front desk staff was helpful and professional. My room was on the small side but very clean with excellent facilities. Breakfast was provided in a small but neat dinning area. Heaters are provided which takes some of the sting out of the coolness associated with the 11,000 ft altitude. The food was simple but well prepared and moderately priced. The hotel has a computer connected to the internet which can be rented by the hour. There is also free wireless connection which comes in handy when booking transportation to and from Cusco. The hotel even picked up my cab fare to the aiport at the end of my stay. The only drawback to the hotel is the early checkout 8am. I tried to negotiate a later check out but was told people were waiting to check in.

One of the best hotels in Cusco

It's one thing when the hotel staff makes travel suggestions with maps and itinerary costs for a day trip outside of Cusco. It's another thing when after mentioning an interest in an outdoor activity you would like to try, the hotel staff finds a travel company, calls the company, and negotiates a price for you entirely in Spanish! That's what the staff did for us during our four day stay at the hotel. They bent over backwards to accommodate us. On top of this, the hotel was very modern, the beds were excellent, and the restaurant was surprisingly good- I had an excellent trout with tomato and basil sauce.

They really took great care of us ...

  • Lori Verified Customer
  • 5 Jul 2009
From the moment we arrived at the small Cuzco airport, the Libertador people were there to take care of us in every way. They offered excellent advice, gave interesting insight and information into ancient and modern Cuzco, and made us feel comfortable and secure at all times. The coca tea is available at all times in lobby. We did not need oxygen, but we observed that it is readily available and hotel staff bring it out quickly for any guest who might need it. Don't underestimate how the combination of exhaustion from travel (21 hours door-to-door for us) combined with the altitude (11,000 feet for Cuzco)will knock you out. You truly do need to plan to just rest for the first day. We will mention in particular [...] at the front desk and [...] in the restaurant, both tourism interns from NY ... these two are real pros and I am sure they will have brilliant careers in the hospitality industry. But this is not at all to ignore the top quality service by every other hotel employee, from front door through lobby and front desk to rooms and restaurants. Every area is beautiful and comfortable. Breakfast buffet is expansive and outstanding and accessible, 4:30 to 10 am. Business center is well equipped and offers about 8 private work areas ... never a wait. Location is perfect, right in center, near Plaza de las Armas, Qorikancha Temple, wonderful restaurants, markets, etc. We had a fantastic view from our window in Room 450.

this is an ideal location and the staff were very helpful at almost every turn. The location is known for it's noisy bars at night and the hotel actually gives you ear plugs. I never heard any noise and thus didn't need ear plugs. My only issue was mid-way thru my stay I woke up to a flooding room. The room above me had real issues with the shower pipe breaking and it flooded my room. The hotel moved me to another room and actually downgraded me to another room the size of a closet. Smaller and no ac ! Yikes I was quite disappointed and had to argue with them to move me a day later(after very hot night) to a room with ac and back to a size larger than a closet. Had it not been for the room issue and their decision to downgrade me because of their water issues.......I would have given them 5 stars.....

A Very Comfortable, Friendly Hotel

The hotel was very clean and had a good shower. The only problem was that there was no heat even in the winter. On the other hand, it never got really cold. The staff was fantastic in taking care of all needs, arranging transportation (including one free trip from/to airport). Cusco is above 10,000 feet and many visitors have a problem with altitude. The hotel provides coca tea, oxygen, and even a pill when needed. Transportation arrangements at any time of day or night were most helpful, as well as the friendly advice given by the staff. The taxi drivers they arranged were also most cordial and helpful, even to the point of lending a few solis when we were short. Cusco was a friendly place and no one tried to take advantage of us in any context. We should have prepared for a longer stay. This was one of the most interesting and challenging trips we have taken anywhere.

Rather disappointing

I booked this room a bit last minute (but hey, that happens to all of us sometimes, right?) because they had a fair mid-range price and it wasn't far from the main square in Cusco. I had also seen some advertising for it on the airplane, in a few travel mags, and other places. When I checked in, the staff were either very busy or things were very hectic...they forgot what they were doing halfway through the process, as other travelers came in they focused on them, and they gave me the wrong key three times. My room was large enough, but the bathroom had used bath products in it. Yuck! I only stayed a few minutes to drop my things off, and asked them to clean it up on the way out. When I got back that evening, things were taken care of in the bathroom, but then when I took a shower, the tub didn't drain. Yuck #2!!! I realized when I got into bed the walls were very thing as I could hear the conversation in the next room. At least I had ear plugs, so I slept with those. I woke up around 4:00 am....ITCHY!!!! I got out of bed and found seven BUG BITES. UGH. So, I cleaned myself up the best I could, went down to check out...which went fine all things considered, just that they didn't understand what I was talking about with bug bites, even when I showed them my legs and arms. I ended up getting to the airport four hours early just to get out of there. I wish my experience had lived up to their advertising, because the hotel looked and sounded very nice in the ads. I was really surprised. If you do stay here, just beware the bug thing, and avoid room 219. I will also be writing the company to see if they can give me a refund. We'll see what happens...... :(
