Hotel Eva in late Sept.

A lovely location over looking the marina. I think the staff expect their visitors to engage in touring etc. and the service during the day was a little 'absent'. The pool area on the roof was comfortable, however the bar service was inconsistant and some staff were 'grumpy', Lovely piano in lobby was an ornament and the bar did not open during the day. This would have been fine if the weather allowed one to sunbath beside the pool #and be ignored by the pool bar staff.# However, it was not the place to meet other guests etc. A city hotel, generally, fine for a week-end break.

Some lovely local restaurants, very keenly priced. Check out the crowds at lunch time, good indicator of quality of service and food. If they don't smile at you, don't dine there.

Perfect location

The reception staff were friendly, helpful and spoke good English; excellent location near to station and minibuses around town . Breakfast had a good selection; Dinner was excellent but the menu was the same every day, so a week's stay was suffient; restaurant staff were excellent with good discreet service. Good rail service to Tavira, Vila Real de San Antonio, as well as to Lisbon.

Perfect Location, Perfect Service, Perfect Views

Took a short vacation to Faro Portugal for my husband's R&R vacation and we were very pleased with the hotel and mostly the service. The location was perfect, next to the Marina, our room had harbor views and a great balcony. The hotel is within walking distance of the city center, train station, bus station and all of it's sightseeing. Right outside the door there were a few restaurants and a restaurant at the roof top of the hotel. The pool was open but because we went in January it was too cold to go in the water. We traveled with our 4 year old son and the hotel was very friendly to him as well. The receptionist at the front desk assisted in booking us a day trip to Seville and told us how to use the train and bus. They also had a Taxi waiting for us at 4 am since we had an early flight. We took the bus to Olhao and the train to Lagos. The bus station is less than a block away from the hotel and the train is within a 3-5 minute walk. The only thing that I didn't like about the hotel was that the bed was way too firm. The complimentary breakfast was outstanding and so was the dinner at the restaurant. I highly recommend this hotel. ***There isn't too much to do in Faro so if you are going on vacation here I recommend that you consider taking the train to the near by places that offer more like Lagos or Albufeira.

Sightseeing tip: In Hotel

Book the excursion trips that are available at a very reasonable price through the hotel receptionist. They range from 30 Euros and up. Also try the boat rides outside the hotel. There is a small office within 50-100 ft from the front door that offers boat rides and rentals. I paid 10 euros for a tour of the Ria Formosa.

Pleasant Enough

A pleasant hotel, though I felt the staff at the front desk were a bit on the brusk side but, with things as they are in Portugal, perhaps they don't have much to be happy about. Meanwhile, the buffet breakfast was, for me, a little below the standard that one would expect from such a hotel. The hot selection was a bit limited with eggs only coming in the scrambled form, the bacon was a bit tasteless and the sausages were of those those awful mini-frankfurter type used in many southern European hotels. I didn't try the cold selection, but that all looked pretty standard as were the pastries. My main criticism of many hotels these days, of which the Eva is one, is their charging extortionate sums for an internet connection - I think they wanted Euro 2 for 30 minutes, which is unacceptably ludicrous. So I just drafted out my emails, went to local hot spot and sent them for free. I really don't understand why so many hotels who need business travellers, especially out of season, feel so at liberty to then rip them off for an internet connection which actually costs them peanuts. Annoying, and something which clouds one's perception of their overall service.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

There is a great restaurant, the Adega Nova on Rua Francisco Barreto, only some 200m from the Hotel Eva. It appears to be popular with the locals, so it must be good, and the prices are very reasonable. We paid Euro 23/head in total for a main meal (which is big), dessert, and bottles of house red and white wine (both very drinkable) plus a couple of beers. The ambience is good, and the service by a cheery and chatty waiter waiter excellent. Overall, a good place to eat.

A nice oasis

The hotel is generally very good. However, it is important to stress your basic needs, such as: patio. All rooms do not offer a patio, but will give one a much larger room instead. It really depends on your requirements. Front desk was very patient, and helpful, even though we did seem to have a language barrier at first. It all worked out well. I would stay here again, and recommend for others to do so too. The pool is worth at least one nights stay!

Pizza! Cant recall the name, but it is only a few minutes walk down the food alley. Wonderful. We ate there two night. Although, the staff pushes you to the roof to eat. We were a group of 7, and the second night we insisted on eating on ground level. Management was grumpy, but our table server was wonderful. Forget the fish, eat pizza in Portugal.

Capital of the Algarve

The hotel was first rate, but you must be willing to accept a certain amount of noise as it was near the approach to the airport with the jets disrupting what would have otherwise been a very peaceful setting. The hotel did not have my reservation in their computer, but when I showed them my [...] confirmation they were able to finally sort it all out. The staff was extremely polite through all of this.

I was expecting Faro to be on one of the famous Algarve beaches as I read the hotel was next to the marina. However, the beaches were miles away, tho' easily accessible by bus or rental car. If you want to be right on the beach, do your research better than I did and don't stay in Faro. However, Faro has an old colonial town charm of its own. I would recommend a couple nights in Faro and then move to another hotel 40 miles down the road in Albufiera or someplace like that.

The location was perfect, staff

The location was perfect, staff - very friendly. The only thing we didn't like was the facilities in the room, the old carpet and the old furniture.. Otherwise, it's a good hotel. I'll come back to it if in Faro again in the future.
