6 Days in Lisbon
Best location in the city. Next to train station and metro which made it very easy to get away to Fatima, Sintro and Cascaes. Hotel is located in Rossio square which is where the best shopping is located. Many good restaurants with in a block or two from the hotel. Excellent breakfast included in price of room with both american (bacon and scrambled eggs) and european (salmon, meats) served. Great cup of coffee also. Room was good size with a marble bathroom. It really is a former palace and it shows in the main foyer and dining room. Located on a busy street but we did not have any problem with noise in our room. Hotel staff very helpful with directions and information. I felt it was a great value and would stay here again. I only gave amenities 4 stars because the hotel provided computer has a fee to use the internet.

Perfect Place
Hotel was beautiful and located in the perfect spot. Hotel empolyees were nice and helpful. Hotel located on a beautiful square and adjacent to a second square with great site seeing and a walking blvd. of stores and resturants that walked to the water. There was also a electronic trolley system (EL 15 is the bus to take) takes you to Balem for 2.50E, and will bring you back. Hotel was a classic, cleaned in every corner. Free Breakfast in the morning and the banquest rooms were beautiful too, with history and art. Hotel rooms had seperate beds, also had sitting area with two flat screens tv/s and beuatiful views out the windows that opened. We are going back.

They dont cook seafood like we do in USA, with crab boil and stuff. Just letting you know before you belly up and order a $115E Lobster and Crab. Its not bad just not the same. Great Ports and the local liquor store.

Excellent Location
The hotel was great and in an excellent location, close to the train station, subway and bus stations. There's also a Starbucks next door with free internet (hotel charges for it). The staff was awesome. The only reason I'm giving it a 4 instead of 5 stars is because I've stayed at better hotels in other places. However, It's a 5 star for the area. Breakfast was good. Doormen was super friendly and helpful. The room was a bit small for me but it's good for a European size. Bath toiletries were great.

Dining tip:
Not Applicable
Be careful of ordering Cod, it's supposed to be a Portugal specialty but it's VERY salty and drenched in olive oil. We couldn't eat it but that's how they serve it.

Great Location!
Great central location to walk to everything. Great well rounded breakfast included each day was fresh, plentiful and typical Portuguese meal. Main desk person always spoke English, but other staff did not. Walked to the funicular, elevator, shopping, took 2 hour bus tour around the city to get a great overview, then did next day on foot ourselves. All the area restaurants seem to sell the exact same meals of boiled fish (bone in)and boiled potato with vegetable. No variety. Thank goodness for pastries which were outstanding and abundant.

Truly a classic
Beautiful classical hotel in a great location. Service was outstanding, hotel lobby looked as it was straight from a palace. I was worried about street noise however there were two sets of windows and one was dual pane, so no outside noise at all. It was is a perfect location, walking distance to much of the old part of town.

"Restaurant Lane" was about 100 yards away. Plus there were so many options going down towards the water and/or up to the barrio alto

Excellent Hotel in a Fantastic Location
There might not be a hotel in Lisbon with a better location. Right on the Rossio (the main square), next to the train station. You can walk to both the Bairro Alto and the Baixa from the hotel with no problem. The walk to the Alfama is a bit more of a hike, but still doable. The lobby and common areas are absolutely beautiful -- very old-world. The rooms are somewhat small and a little bit dated (e.g., our double was just two twins linked together, the shower was a handheld, older European unit). But we very much enjoyed our stay. The thing that stands out at the Avenida Palace is the staff. They are beyond accommodating. They made bus reservations for us (before we had actually checked in). And I left my digital picture card in the safe in my room. The staff found it and mailed it to me in the United States. Absolutely stellar service. I'd definitely stay here again.

Short walk from hotel
We had a lot of fun in the Bairro Alto after dark. Just wander the streets until you find the watering hole that suits your style.
