Fantastic Location
The front desk staff were pleasant & courteous. Unfortunately the phones did not work. The room was a bit 'smelly' as in need of refurbishment as also the bathroom. In the evening the entrance lounge smelled badly of sewerage, although admittedly not necessarily the fault of the hotel. The location is fantastic , in the heart of the city & its varied amenities. I was loosely familiar with the Hotel in its heydays & it felt a bit of a shame to see what it has become !

Night stay
We arrived at the hotel on Friday which was the last day of our stay. The hotel room had alot of space - bedroom separated from a lounge area - the bathroom was very clean. The breakfast had alot of fruit which was good.

Good location and price
The hotel borges is located right next to the Baixa chiado train station in Lisbon. Everything is easily accessible from this location. The hotel itself is ok. Rooms are spacious but the bathroom is a bit of a tight squeeze. When we arrived the concierge gave us a key to an already occupied room. We walked in on a couple and it was quite embarrassing. Other than that the hotel is comfortable enough. A little musty smelling in the corridors. The free breakfast was nothing special ...consists of bread fruit cheese and unlimited tea coffee and juice. There is a great cafe next door. Overall the location is unbeatable.

For exploring Lisbon, the location
For exploring Lisbon, the location is brilliant, much better than almost every other hotel in the city. However, you should get a room at the back as the noise from the pedestrianised street in front goes on until 3am at least some nights, and there is no double-glazing. Room quality is variable so if you don't like the one you are offered first, ask to see another. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, but the hotel really offers nothing but a room and a (very poor) breakfast, which is reflected in the very reasonable rates. There is a wide variety of restaurants and iconic cafes at the hotel's doorstep and round the corner. Lighting for reading in bed is a bit dim.

great location, not so great hotel
As the title said, great location, right next to the "Cafeteria A Brasileira", awesome place for breakfast vermouth and a late drink. However the hotel itself has much to improve, both in service and in accommodations. First, we were given a room with space barely enough to fit the bed with no space for clothes or anything else (STAY AWAY FROM ROOM 326!!). Then we got a 2nd room where you needed to be a contortionist to wash your hands or teeth. Once they forgot to do our room, and the staff didn't seem to be too eager to bring us clean towels.

Nice rm, exc loc, musty common areas
This hotel is right in the center of all the action-The Chiado. Our room was gigantic and we had a balcony. The staff was friendly. Our big gripe was on our way to and from our room. The stairs and the lounge smelled of mildew. I'm sure they are planning to replace the carpet-I can't imagine that they would leave the place smelling like that.

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
If you make a left out of the hotel there is a mall with a food court at the end of the block (FNAC). If you are desperate for edible food, there is a food court inside.
