This hotel was within walking

This hotel was within walking distance of the station where the train from Malaysia arrives, so it suited our overnight needs. However, for longer stays it is poorly located for a tourist visit, well away from shopping, attractions and good restaurants.

Nice lobby but rooms need refurbishing

[...]Rooms are small and in need of refurbishment. The pool area however is very pleasant with a great pool. Location is not brilliant though as most sights are some distance away. Being close to Chinatown was good and was a 10min walk from the hotel through a fairly 'local' neighbourhood. In all an OK hotel but not one I would rush back to.

The Amara is excellent value for

The Amara is excellent value for money. This is due to its ideal location between the city and Chinatown (a comfortable 10 minute walk to Chinatown). It is near the MTR and opposite a local shopping area. The hotel is a solid quality 4 star.

Terrific location, wonderful service

Truly felt welcomed by the kind staff. Very quiet - thought there must not be many people around me, but learned that the hotel was 100% full. Two great food courts next to it, one on fourth floor of connecting building and another across the street. Good restaurants in the hotel, of course. Close to the MRT metro train station, and just a short, pleasant walk to China Town. I wold definitely stay here again. Internet access was too pricey, though - 29/day (about US$22). Main problem for me is that beds were fairly hard - had to adjust my sleeping style, but that was OK.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Go across the street to the food courts there. Cheap. Also try the fourth floor of the adjoining building, above the 1st floor Burger King in the adjoining building - no need to step outside.
