Great breakfast, nice lobby and restaurants, rooms have been upgraded and are very nice, bed comfortable. Problem with airconditioner on first day/night. Hotel changed us to another room, but had the same problem there. Finally felt it kick in the following morning, but the weather was cooler, so not sure if this is always a problem or was fixed. The remaining nights were cool, so no further problems. Would stay there again.

I was in Cape Town for 2 weeks for work at UCT. The hotel has all the modern amenities including free wifi (fast enough to video chat) and heated floors in the bathroom during the winter months. The bed and breakfast option was great and the food choices very good. Service throughout the hotel was impeccable! Its within walking distance to many local tourist activities and a short taxi ride to the Waterfront. For the rate I really should give 5 stars!

Great all round hotel

  • JezH Verified Customer
  • 18 Nov 2011
Spent 9 nights at the hotel in November. Apart from being about an 80 rand taxi ride into town, this hotel is perfect for relaxing out of the main city centre. Bar on site (open till late), some shops close by, but not many restaurants - so you'll probably need to go into town (V&A) and mix it with eating in hotel. Pool/patio area is great. Rooms are comfortable but not European 4* level. Overall, I'd highly recommend this as a place to relax - out of city centre, close enough to get in for food, but great location to explore further down the coast too. If you want to be in the thick of the city though, this isn't for you!

Thank goodness for the wonderful staff at the Westin. We picked up food poisoning somewhere in CapeTown. Fortunately we had a very comfortable room. The staff went out of their way to ensure that we stayed comfortable, hydrated, and fed, even making a special chicken noodle soup especially for us and bringing us (free) bottled water by the case. While the food poisoning was horrible (not their fault), they made it bearable. We loved the location too.

Description
The personal hand written note of welcome is telling as sign of the style that is the hallmark of a very special hotel the style that sets the Victoria & Alfred Hotel on the Pier head in Cape Town's Victoria & Alfred Waterfront apart. You can feel the ambiance of colonial Cape Town as you step into the foyer, sense the past of shipwrecks and storms that color every corner, then relax in the elegant contemporary bedrooms.. and savour the atmosphere of the world's most famous working harbor. Built in 1904 as the North Quay Warehouse and converted in 1990 to a luxury hotel, it is named in honor of the Queen of England and her son. Prince Alfred visited the Cape in 1870 and officially opened the Breakwater basin, today's Victoria & Alfred Waterfront.

This hotel is the perfect place to stay in Cape Town. Breakfasts fantastic, cooked to order food plus great buffet with oysters, fruit, many yogurts, cheeses, fresh breads and more. If you need to leave early, they pack you a huge wonderful breakfast to go in a handled bag. Sit inside or outside under the shade or right on the water! Rooms were large and clean. Staff was excellent! Only negatives: pool is across the street and up the stairs and workout room is VERY small with only a few pieces of equipment. I will stay here on my next trip to Cape Town.

Wonderful Hotel, Great Location

This hotel could not be in a better location. It is situated in the lively waterfront area next to restaurants, banks with ATM's, a craft market, and a shopping mall with many shops including a pharmacy and a Pick N Pay grocery store. It was only a 4 minute walk to the Robben Island ferry terminal. It is also only a minute walk to the Hop On Hop Off bus stop. Our room was on the top floor facing Table Mountain, and we heard no noise at all during our stay. The breakfast that is included is superb, with a wide variety of fruits, meats, breads, yogurts, and juices for the continental breakfast buffet and a menu where fancier breakfast items which are also included can be ordered. The patio dining area has a breathtaking view of the water and Table Mountain. The rooms are beautifully furnished and the bathroom is large with a shower area and separate tub, and a separate room for the toilet which is nice. Customer service at the hotel was stellar - the staff were all very attentive, polite, and friendly. My only wish is that the hotel had a business center so guests could print items from the internet such as maps, directions, or online ticket vouchers - necessities for many tourists.

It's not that the Atlantic Affair is clean, modern, spacious, and well located. This is true, and there are plenty of properties in Cape Town that meet this crieria. The best part about the Atlantic Affair are the people. All of them are very courteous, knowledgeable, and go the extra mile to ensure customer comfort. They had plenty of suggestions and booked a number of excursions for us. I spent two weeks at this property has had an amazing experience. The staff met my every need and its location in Sea Point is very nice, not far from the ocean, and a short, cheap ride from anywhere in the city. The included WiFi was a plus. If staying for a while, choose the room upgrade. The extra space and bacony view are well worth it.

Excellent apartment style room. Seperate kitchen, living room and bedroom. Two Tv's, a DVD player, big bathroom, balcony. The staff could not have been friendlier. Breakfast very good. Pool area on roof of the hotel small but never too busy. Free internet available. Excellent location. Only downside was no real bar atmosphere. They do serve drinks at night, but only from the area where breakfast is served in the morning.

All the suites face the ocean and we were on the second floor with and unbelievable view of Cape Town, Table Mountain and the Atlantic Ocean. The sunsets and moon over the ocean were spectacular, they took my breath away. The hotel location is very convenience to everything. We taken many trips to Caribbean, the only draw back was if we want to swim we pick the wrong time of the year (winter) although there were some people swimming. We would go again in a heart beat even in the winter.

I absolutely loved my trip to Cape Town - nothing like it! - and this hotel did contribute to that. The view was gorgeous every day when I stepped out on the balcony since all rooms look on the Atlantic and would see Table Mountain to the south, Robben Island in the distance, Blauberg to the North. Such beautiful sunsets as the sun would drop behind Lion's Head. The room was little outdated but overall good. The service of the housekeeping and restaurant areas staff was great. Because my reservation was made through [...]it included a buffet style breakfast everyday and I could also order anything from the kitchen as well. Was great for saving money on meals. I think the parking charge for people who are staying more than few days is bit much. I stayed 3 weeks and had to pay R25 per day which was like $75 (total 3 week parking bill) and while cheaper than most US hotels, still... Did laundry several times and the ladies were always good in helping me with it and they received tips for it. Such friendly ladies. My only but biggest issue was when I went to check out. I had verified with front desk about costs of phone calls. Local calls were 59 cents (their currency)/minute, toll-free was, well, free! When I went to check out, they handed me a bill for R5500.90 (about $775). I noticed that some of the calls were during times I wasnt even in the room, I was on the side of Table Mountain climbing- have pictures to prove it with time stamps. I had used a calling card who gave me a local toll-free number to use and they verified it was a toll free number thats the calling card company's business. But the hotel insisted it wasnt toll-free. So I went back later in day and demanded a printout of details of each phone call- couldnt give it to me, we had to go through each call and write details from their computer. When I actually was checking out I was very unhappy and desk personnel went and got the manager who spent all of 10 minutes with me then went back in her office and left an employee and a trainee with me to solve the issue. This issue is still not resolved! I am waiting on accounting personnel to review and resolve this issue. I would NOT stay at this hotel due to beyond poor customer service on the side of the managerial staff- emphasis on managerial!!! Phone card company reverified number and informed me that the hotel was trying to con me so - my advice, if you stay here- CLOSELY watch your bill and DO NOT USE THE PHONE! One other little beef- make sure you take enough adapters for electrical plugs to the large 3 (triangular shaped plugs for 220. There was only one of the small 2 round pronged receptacles in the bathroom. Hope this helps!

Pro - We had a lovely stay. The apartment was very nice and spacious. We had a lovely seaview and felt very secure in complex. The location was good app 10 km from V&A waterfront but away from all the hustle and bustle. Con - The kitchen was not very well equiped, just the basic utensills, that was a bit of a drag since it is selfcatering. The biggest drag was that there is no braai facilities and since we are from South Africa that was real bad. Had a nice stay with teh family.

This is a fine hotel, with helpful friendly staff, good food, and comfortable, quiet rooms in a green oasis in Cape Town's southern suburbs. All would be perfect except the the internet service which was very slow, cut out often, and was sometimes non-existent. And the hotel does not appear to have anyone on staff who knows anything about it.

There was a slight snafu with my reservation, so the hotel instantly upgraded my room to a superior. The food at breakfast and room service is wonderful and very reasonably-priced. It's also within walking distance to St. George's Plaza and the Waterfront. The best part, though, is how incredibly friendly the staff was throughout my stay, I can't wait to go back.

Our four day was marked by great service from the front desk and bar, and a fine breakfast. Cape Town is good and we were all over. Cabs back were no problem, about 50 Rand from the Waterfront. The location of the front door is a problem for cabs but the hotel has staff that handle it well. [...]is great. The bar's balcony is a hidden gem. The hop on hop off ticket is a good one.

The room itself was excellent, the view from our bathroom of Table Mountain was better than most other hotels! The Taj's location in the center of town is superb for exploring on foot, and allowed us to see the city from foot level. The concierge was excellent. The dinner recommendations and reservations were spot-on and superb. The complimentary shuttle in the Jaguar and Range Rover were a big hit as well!
