The personal hand written note of welcome is telling as sign of the style that is the hallmark of a very special hotel the style that sets the Victoria & Alfred Hotel on the Pier head in Cape Town's Victoria & Alfred Waterfront apart. You can feel the ambiance of colonial Cape Town as you step into the foyer, sense the past of shipwrecks and storms that color every corner, then relax in the elegant contemporary bedrooms.. and savour the atmosphere of the world's most famous working harbor. Built in 1904 as the North Quay Warehouse and converted in 1990 to a luxury hotel, it is named in honor of the Queen of England and her son. Prince Alfred visited the Cape in 1870 and officially opened the Breakwater basin, today's Victoria & Alfred Waterfront.

Close to the energy of the waterfront

This hotel is nicely located at the waterfront. The room was nice, albeit a little small. The breakfast was great. Be sure to secure a room overlooking the harbour AND facing Table Mountain.

South Africa Trip

Check in was quick and efficient. The location couldn't be better. You walk out and many restuarants and shops are right at your fingertips. We used there pool which is across the street, very quaint, and they had lunch facilities so you never had to leave the location and could charge to your room. The view from the meals was awesome. Would go back in a hearbeat.....

Victoria & Alfred Cape Town SA

No downsides. It is not an inexpensive hotel, but the breakfast is very good, the room is clean & comfortable, it has an elevator, most of all the location is perfect, right on the waterfront, adjacent to a good shopping center, restaurants, bars, and within a 3 minute walk to the hop on-hop-off bus. I can't think of any downside. I think it is the place to stay in Cape Town

Great service Perfect location

This hotel is the perfect place to stay in Cape Town. Breakfasts fantastic, cooked to order food plus great buffet with oysters, fruit, many yogurts, cheeses, fresh breads and more. If you need to leave early, they pack you a huge wonderful breakfast to go in a handled bag. Sit inside or outside under the shade or right on the water! Rooms were large and clean. Staff was excellent! Only negatives: pool is across the street and up the stairs and workout room is VERY small with only a few pieces of equipment. I will stay here on my next trip to Cape Town.

Wonderful Hotel, Great Location

This hotel could not be in a better location. It is situated in the lively waterfront area next to restaurants, banks with ATM's, a craft market, and a shopping mall with many shops including a pharmacy and a Pick N Pay grocery store. It was only a 4 minute walk to the Robben Island ferry terminal. It is also only a minute walk to the Hop On Hop Off bus stop. Our room was on the top floor facing Table Mountain, and we heard no noise at all during our stay. The breakfast that is included is superb, with a wide variety of fruits, meats, breads, yogurts, and juices for the continental breakfast buffet and a menu where fancier breakfast items which are also included can be ordered. The patio dining area has a breathtaking view of the water and Table Mountain. The rooms are beautifully furnished and the bathroom is large with a shower area and separate tub, and a separate room for the toilet which is nice. Customer service at the hotel was stellar - the staff were all very attentive, polite, and friendly. My only wish is that the hotel had a business center so guests could print items from the internet such as maps, directions, or online ticket vouchers - necessities for many tourists.

Check the prices of items you like in the market near the hotel before going to Greenmarket Square to haggle.
