Pleasantly Surprised !

Going to south Africa for the first time I was apprehensive of everything, but as soon as i get to the Genesis reception desk all my worries were put to rest. The staff welcomed me warmly and made me feel right at home, the room or rather the suite was super clean very spacious well distributed and modernely equipped. It is and has everything advertised.

The suite was great - very art deco modern. Tons of amenities downstairs with a shopping center as part of the location. Free wifi that worked great. Close to all major highways in johannesburg. My wife and I loved our stay here. Incredible value for money.

Well outside of downtown Johannesburg. Taxi arranged by hotel from airport is 300 Rand, which is far too expensive. Restauarants located next door and a big shopping mall is just a 7 minute walk away. Breakfast at hotel is a bit over priced for the choice available. A cheaper option is at McDonalds, located 10 minutes walk away in the same direction as the mall. Overall a very good hotel, but make sure you are aware of the transportation options before booking.

Upon arrival I had a problem since [...] USA didn't release the Hotel package portion transfer. I had to guarantee the Hotel rate with my credit card. Upon check in the same problem. I had to call from my Swiss cell phone [...] (tot. charge incl. exorbitant roaming US $ 36 !) to get clearance and acceptance of my paid voucher. This is not a good reference and sould simply not happen. I have paid my travel, but got stuck in Johannesburg.

This hotel is trying too hard to be chic and ends up looking like the set of an Austin Powers movie. The location is fantastic, a very short walk to Rosebank mall and convenient for business. The rooms are not great for business travelers, very dark and outdated. Nice to have restaurants within, and plenty at the mall to choose from as well. Shortly after checking in, a very strong, horrid odor started coming up through the shower drain and I had to literally flee the room. THe lady in the room next door had the same problem. They moved us straight away - it smelled like strong chemicals and made us very nauseous. The hotel is just OK, not great and not cheap for what you get. If it were priced lower, I wouldn't mind it being completely average.

[...] Front desk people were not helpful until finally someone was willing to accept my copy of the [...] reservation and told us not to worry. The room was lovely, clean, modern, Housekeeping was confused on several occasions. Room was cleaned,used towles taken but replacement towels were not there. No one at "Travel Desk" could give us information on how to get to the major international airport. There were no maps available of the area either. Finally hit on the one person with great customer service skills, [...] and got stuff accomplished when needed.

Good hotel - very far from airport. Available shuttle is not free. Good restaurants nearby. Blueprint of hotel very confusing! Power strip use shut down power; phone access not working, but repaired quickly. Staff very helpful and pleasant.

We arrived at the hotel after flying from Germany to J'burg. Our room was not ready when we arrived which was a bit annoying, as we just longed for a shower and a nap. This, however, wasn't the hotel's fault, as check in was at 2, and we arrived around noon.
The room are clean and nice--quite contemporary in decor. The restaurant was tasty and the staff attentive. The location is the best, as Sandton is much safer and nicer than J'burg.
The biggest complaint we had was with the check in and check out process. We must have waited 45 minutes in queue to check out, as two people worked the desk but took forever for each guest.

Unremarkable hotel which was what was expected. Room was nice and clean, everything worked. The only issue with this hotel was after our first day out we returned to find food and makeup missing from out room. After reporting it to the front desk we were reimbursed on the last day of our stay (3 days later) after talking with multiple managers.
Otherwise the staff was very friendly and helpful. Especially with directions and restaurant recommendations.

Great hotel with modern, trendy flair. cozy, dimly lit atmosphere in dining area during dinner. Classy,upscale, funky decor catering to singles, couples and the business community. The visit was part holiday and part business. I have stayed at many upscale hotels, however, the service here far exceeded those establishments. Loved the restaurant. Great location with tons of eateries nearby, but the hotel restaurant, March, was by far my favorite. They even catered to my request for some of the local cuisine not on the menu. Lovely pool, excellent staff, who actually became my friends for the the extended stay. Loved the gated community surrounding the hotel complex, very safe, lots of security. I went out often at night without any problems. Loved the cool attire of the doormen and friendly service, they actually do know you by name. Very comfortable rooms and impeccable housekeeping. Kudos to the Manager who took care of every request. Did I mention the restuarant and the staff, ok, I guess you can tell I really enjoyed breakfast every morning as well as some dinners for over 20 days!! Did I mention the staff, ok I really enjoyed the company! Very cozy library bar,perfect space for meetings or friendly gatherings, has a surround sound private movie viewing room as well as pool table. Loved the in room DVD movie collection as well as the upgraded in room sound system. Far exceeded my expectations, Upscale but not stuffy! We will definitely see you all again in the future!

Sunnyside is more a 3-star, rather than 4-star hotel. The carpets need refurbishing, and their elevator could have been revarnished or painted, as it was full of scratches, with some part of elevator wall peeled off. Although breakfast was good, it was so hard to request water from waiters. Internet is sOO slow. Front desk people are not that helpful when you ask them how to go to a place--as they just refer you to their preferred transport provider--which cost an arm and a leg. And, considering how dangerous Johannesburg has been portrayed, you'd have no choice but to get their provider. If it had not been for World Cup making hotels full, I would have preferred to stay in a hotel in the Sandton area.

Terrific, comfortable rooms with ultra-modern shower. Outdoor area especially notable, with comfortable lounge and sunning seating built in the midst of the swimming pool. Staff very accommodating. WiFi and free business center usage. Shuttle to the airport. More interesting than most airport hotels. Excellent value.

I chose the hotel because of the free shuttle service. This is ideal for an overnight stay between flights. There is a hotel restaurant buffet, but it was rather pricey. A bonus was that there is free wi-fi at the hotel.

A great airport hotel - good shuttle service, good breakfast and friendly and helpful staff. The only downfall is that there is nowhere else to eat and the one restaurant does not have much choice if you are staying more than a night.

The hotel has a gymnasium, outdoor swimming pool and sunbathing area. As well as the facilities within the hotel, the Emperor is a part of the popular Caesars entertainment complex. This offers an un-paralleled choice of entertainment including a circus, large 24 hour casino, theatre, restaurants and bars. (0907AHJ) A grand modern 8 storey building with tall white columns either side of the main entrance. Situated just 3 kms from Johannesburg International Airport and 24 kms from Johannesburg's CBD and the popular area of Sandton.

Description
Ten Bompas Hotel is a member of Design Hotels.
Originally a private home, Ten Bompas was converted into an exclusive hotel with ten suites, a restaurant called Sides and a magnificent wine cellar overlooking the swimming pool. Each suite has been individually decorated by a different interior designer, using their interpretation of an African theme. An appealing collection of African sculptures, art and architecture forms a perfect aesthetic match and creates a flow through the public spaces. Each suite has its own style and furnishings, a spectrum ranging from colonial to masculine reds, tans and dark blue, to “African colours” reflecting the local landscapes in yellow and ochre tones, sisal flooring and terra cotta.
The facilities have been designed to meet the needs of today’s discerning traveler with satellite television, compact disc player and complimentary mini bar. Internet access is through dial up port in the suites and wireless access in the hotel’s reception area. Suites lead into the garden or onto a patio, and have separate lounges, guest toilets, fireplaces and individual steam baths. Transfers can be arranged from and to business meetings as well as to shopping centers and airports. Our Boardroom can accommodate 12 delegates. Our meeting packages include refreshments, lunch at Sides and standard equipment.
