The Sunnyside Park has managed to keep all of its colonial charm whilst still offering modern facilities that include an excellent fully equiped fitness centre, steam rooms, business centre, large pool with sun loungers, a baby sitting service, safe complimentary parking, a cigar/smoking lounge and a popular pub which is also open to the general public. (AHJ 0708) Built in 1859 and originally a grand residential estate, the Sunnyside Park is a beuatiful colonial building. Only 2 stories tall, this listed building has kept all its original features including high ceilings, sash windows and is surrounded by the landscaped gardens. Just a 15 minute drive from the excellent shops and restaurants of Sandton City and 30 kms (45 min drive) to Johannesburg Int'l airport, the Sunnyside Park Hotel is in the pleasant quiet area of Parktown.

A long time traveler!

A real disappointment!

(1)The room was not air conditioned and was very hot. I could only sleep by keeping the patio door partially open which raised security concerns.(2)They promised me an electrical outlet converter and never brought it.(3) It was really difficult to get a taxi from the hotel. The hotel staff seemed to only want you to use the transportation provided by their tour services. (4)When I paid in cash at the buffet, the waiter claimed I gave him a smaller bill than I actually did. He was a thief!

Sunnyside is more a 3-star, rather

Sunnyside is more a 3-star, rather than 4-star hotel. The carpets need refurbishing, and their elevator could have been revarnished or painted, as it was full of scratches, with some part of elevator wall peeled off. Although breakfast was good, it was so hard to request water from waiters. Internet is sOO slow. Front desk people are not that helpful when you ask them how to go to a place--as they just refer you to their preferred transport provider--which cost an arm and a leg. And, considering how dangerous Johannesburg has been portrayed, you'd have no choice but to get their provider. If it had not been for World Cup making hotels full, I would have preferred to stay in a hotel in the Sandton area.
