Good base for a couple.
Very clean, quiet, close to metro stations and city centre. Great base from which to explore, and easy to do so. Room was modern in a minimalist style, but comfortable and enjoyable. Compared well with hotel rooms in other cities.

Four night stay in Barcelona
My mom and I went away for a few days before a business trip of mine and stayed at the Hotel Gran Ronda. All the reviews for this place were spot on. Great location, friendly staff, clean hotel, but you will definitely miss it when walking on the street if you aren't looking for it! But overall nothing special... The other correction I had was that when getting off the Aerobus or subway, the plaza universitat was closer and more convenient than the plaza catalunya. We did not eat breakfast in the hotel, but there are pastry shops around. There is also a Starbucks on the way to plaza catalunya.

Location is Great, Room Good.
It is walking distance from La Rambla (5mins). Away from the large crowds, but close enough that you wont miss out in the action going on around the city. Metro-Universtat is one block away--which is great! you can get anywhere easily. Wifi is free throughout the hotel. Room is basic, but CLEAN-- it serves its purpose. Defintely A LOT better than staying at a hostal.. Not the Four Seasons, but a good room in a good location..

Good location, tough room.
I was only in Barcelona for two days and knew going in that I wasn't going to spend much time in the hotel. That said, this hotel, although well situated in terms of it's walking distance to many of the city's attractions, was just not comfortable. Even for the low price I hoped they'd provide at least some amenities. The rooms are SMALL. The beds are hard. The closets are limited in space. As a two day traveler who didn't spend much time in the room it was fine for me. But if you're planning to spend ANY time in the room, or if you're a woman who plans to get ready for nights out on the town, this is NOT the hotel for you. The front desk people were EXCELLENT. They knew the city well, made good recos, and even got us tickets to the Barca v. Saragossa futbol game. Aside from the room size, this place was decent. Just pay attention to what I said... single, male, travelers for short stays will be satisfied by this hotel. Any other situations should steer clear and get a bigger hotel.

Tucked away
Staff service is wonderful and extremely helpful, The rooms are clean but are extremely minimal in size and ammenities. Hotel is directly over Metro line so be aware of routine muffled rumbling. Location is convenient but easy to miss if you are not looking very closely (next to the army surplus store). Would recommend to those who plan to spend all their time exploring the city and no time in the room.

Great hotel for first trip to Barcelona
On my first trip to Barcelona, I would say this hotel met my standards and my expectations. It was definitely located in a safe neighborhood, with bus and metro readily accessible. The nearest metro was about a block away-- Universitat metro stop. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from Plaza Catalunya, the where you find an array of shopping and eatery area along the popular RAMBLA area that takes you straight down to the port area. My room was clean, tidy, only that the bed mattress felt a little bit to hard for my taste. Don't be surprised if at night you feel vibrations from the underground metro. At first, I thought it was due to the the vibrations coming from the hotel's elevator, but then, found out it was the underground metro, which I also happened to feel it when I was walking down the streets along that area....weird. Even though, I felt these vibrations, I was able to sleep without a problem. The desk receptionist [...] was very nice and helpful.

Short walk from hotel
For breakfast I would recommend a place near the hotel that sells pastries, etc. I believe it's Panaderia Mistral. It's set up as a cafeteria setup. It's right off a street near a Theater nearby. You can just ask someone nearby. Prices are fair, food is fresh and delicious. I would go there for breakfast.

A basic hotel (clean beds, shower, good service), Gran Ronda is a great base to explore the key sights of the city. It's also just a 3 min walk to the nearest train station. The main gripe I had was the noise level. We stayed on the first floor and you can hear the traffic, loud conversations on the streets and even the metro passing underground. A definite "no" for light sleepers but otherwise, a decent hotel with a great location.
