The best hotel in Madrid
This hotel is located in the heart of Puerto del Sol, and it is within walking distance of some of Madrid's most famous sites, such as the Thyssen, the Sofia, and the Prado. The hotel staff are friendly, multi-lingual, and generous with their time. I have stayed in this hotel for the past six summers. Although I have lodged in other hotels in Madrid, not one has ever been as nice as Carlos V. It is worth every euro.

Great location, good hotel
We loved this hotel. The location couldn't have been better and the accommodations were great. I have already recommended it to a friend who is planning a trip to Madrid. Ask for a room with a balcony.

Short walk from hotel
The Corte Ingles department store has a wonderful grocery store in the basement. We bought bread and cheese and drinks there which saved us a lot on food, which is quite expensive in Madrid. The rooms have little refrigerators so we could store our food there.

The fiasco
First, I was mislead by the picture posted on the Internet. Not even close! Second, accessing the hotel was a nightmare, expensive, and the best part, the taxi was not allowed to get to the hotel. (100.00 euros roundtrip) Third overpriced. Can I apply for a refund of at least 50%?

A great trip soured by bad practice!
My family and I stayed at Carol V many times before and also were treated well. This time I felt cheated because they refused to refund a last night's stay with due notice. The Airline changed my flight, cutting one day off my trip without telling me why. Well before the trip I informed the travel Co. about the problem. I was told they had contacted the Hotel and that I should talk to them when I arrived. I arrived Nov 4 and told them of the problem of Nov. 18. Their reply was that I made a reservation and they could not make any adjustment. If no adjustment is made, I shall never stay there or any of their chain in the future. I would regret that, for most of the staff were great.

Short walk from hotel
I made several purchases in a nearby large Department Store. I was told that I could get a refund for some tax paid, which would have been over one hundred dollars. No one told me that the store had to complete a special form to use at the Airport, though I had all receipts. Thus, no refund.

Best Western Hotel Carlos V
The Best Western Hotel, Carlos V, is the best hotel to lodge in while in the Madrid. The price is reasonable, the setting is colorful, eclectic, yet very elegant. The rooms are very tastefully decorated and cleaned like the Queen would want her palace. The staff are kind, friendly, and multilingual. Their directions to various attractions located nearby around the hotel, (such as The Prado, the Sofia, the Real Academia Artes de San Fernando, Teatro Reina Victoria (where you can see Carmen), the street vendor, musicians, and artists located just around the corner from the hotel all the way up to the Puerto del Sol) are exact, and you cannot get lost because the people are friendly, and everyone knows the location of Puerto del Sol. You are close to the train station, the bus station, and mere moments from the nearest metro stop. I have stayed in it seven different times. Some rooms are equipped with air conditioning, and others are not; no worries--you can open the window, and the cool night air is great (in July and August.) The staff has not changed. They are the same wonderful people who I first met in 2007. You cannot go wrong at this hotel because the people there are so right for your wonderful stay in Madrid. I recommend this hotel highly. I have stayed in others in Madrid. Clearly, this one is my favorite.

Short walk from hotel
Go see Carmen at Teatro Reina Victoria. It is fantastic. Plan on spending one full day at the Prado. Don't plan on seeing more museums, on the same day, after seeing the Prado. Go have a cafe con leche or walk through the gorgeous park by the Prado. Relax a bit and listen to the world around you. Go to Museo Thyssen. Many people forget to see this. It is across the street from the Prado. If you are organized, you can plan ahead to leave Madrid for a morning tour by bus or train to see Toledo. It is an hour or so away by train. Seeing Toledo is an all day event.

Good location and otherwise adequate
The hotel is conveniently located near metro stops, Puerta del Sol, and Plaza Mayor, also within walking distance of the Prado and the Palace. Although not outstanding, the hotel is reasonably comfortable and quite adequate as a base for sightseeing. The first night our room on the street side was noisy, but they obligingly moved us to a quiet room on the back for the remainder of our stay.

In addition to being able to walk to the major attractions, we were pleasantly surprised to take a most interesting tour of the nearby Descalzas Royal Monastery.
