Built at the direction of King Alfonso XIII in 1912, The Westin Palace, Madrid was recently restored to its original splendor. Set near the Prado, notable museums, and historic monuments, it was ranked as the #1 hotel in Spain in Conde Nast Traveler's 2008 Gold List. The magnificent building, highlighted by an enormous stained glass dome, has long been a center of Spanish society. Among the many amenities are meeting rooms, restaurants, and a newly renovated Westin WORKOUT fitness center overlooking the city. The 468 guest rooms and spacious suites have been updated with all modern conveniences and with the Westin Heavenly Bed and Heavenly Bath. Rooms are exquisitely decorated with antique furnishings and original mahogany and plaster details.

Wonderful Vacation Stay

When you first walk into the hotel , you are struck by the clean and beautiful lobby. Next the very attentive staff goes out of their way to get you registered into the hotel. As you go up to your room, you are struck by the beautiful decorations in the hallways. The very attentive room staff sees to any of your needs through out your stay. Well worth the money that you pay pay for your stay. The location was perfect for what we wanted to see. We are looking forward to our return

Beauty comes at a price

The Westin Palace Madrid is a beautiful and elegant hotel with a great location and friendly and accommodating staff. However, I did not experience the restaurant or lounge/bar due to the exorbitant prices.

The train station is a 10-15 minute walk away. Also, the Prado is literally across the street.

Space and comfort in perfect location

With only three days available, and a long list of things to do, the location was perfect - midway between the Old Town and Parque Retiro, and right beside two of the world's greatest art museums - the Prado and the Thyssen, and quite near Reina Sofia. Also quite near airport bus stop. Great spacious building, famous Rotunda bar. Very helpful staff, too - unobtrusive but there when we needed them (which we did).

Do not miss the mind blowing art collections a few minutes walk in three directions - and the food in the museums was excellent too. Take breakfast at an art gallery? why not!

Honest review

Beautiful hotel, Great place to sleep. That's it. No value in this hotel chain. free internet? Not in the room nor on your cell. Food and beverage costs are insulting. Fair food for the prices more than twice that of the best restaurants in town, and a drink in the bar for half the cost of the bottle. We stayed in Westin Valencia and same thing goes there. I don't mind the room rate for such a nice place, but really don't ruin it by gouging on extras.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Don't spend money in hotel for anything, take a short walk and get far better food and drinks for far less money.

Lovely service, not so lovely prices

The service was wonderful - everyone was extremely helpful and delightfully friendly. I do wish though that there were fewer knocks on the door (one person with water, one with towels, one with soap, one to check the minibar...). The prices for food and beverage was very very high ($25 for a cocktail, $40 for breakfast, $20 for a grilled cheese sandwich). Location couldn't have been better - and the beds were heavenly.

Madrid, Wonderful as Always!

I travel to Spain several times per year. This is my 5th year in a row where we have stayed at the Westin Palace in Madrid & it was once again stellar across the spectrum of amenities I deem important. I am a native Spaniard residing abroad, so I know Madrid very well and the Palace is a great location for all my needs. See you later this year!

Good Location

A bit disappointed in hotel. Very loud construction outside, road closed. Cost us an additional $10.00 in taxi fare upon arrival because of road closed. Was upgraded to Executive level, but heavenly bed was hard as a rock and it squeaked everytime I moved. Had to ask for bath gel, kleenex and soap. Maids did a sloppy job of making beds. Went to lobby bar and thought no one would wait on us. Finally a grumpy waiter came, took our order and plopped it on our table with the bill. We wanted another drink, but after 35 minutes we gave up and left. It was not busy and they had plenty of waiters.

Plenty of tapa bars and restaurants nearby in the small streets. Plaza Sol offers many souvenir shops and one money exchange that was fair and didn't charge a commission.
